The Bee Gees were hosting The Midnight Special (TV show) that evening-- one of several they hosted over two years. Chuck was a guest attraction. The content was less strictly monitored because this weekly show aired past prime time.

The Midnight Special was weekly TV program airing at or around midnight on Friday nights in the 70s. Midnight special stood out from other “live” music shows in that they forbid the performers to lip sync their records. You had to do your shit live on the Midnight Special. The show featured different celebrity hosts some semi regular like Helen Reddy and some occasional. The Bee Gees hosted many times over a couple of seasons. They were the hosts of this episode and Berry was a guest. By the early 70s Chuck Berry was already a legend having almost 20years of rocking behind him and of course a pioneer of the genre. The collab here was spontaneous and The Bee Gees meant only to stay in the background. You’re right Too Much Heaven is a remarkable performance and I hope you’ll do more Bee Gees. Some suggestions How Deep is Your Love, Jive Talkin, How do you mend a broken heart, Nights on Broadway, Fanny (Be Tender With My Love). Enjoy your channel very much!

Everyone reacts to the "disco" era stuff. I prefer their 60's stuff like "I started a joke", "Words", "I can't see nobody", "Gotta get a message to you", "Run to me" or their post disco songs like "Bodyguard", "One", "You win again", "Fallen angel", "For whom the bell tolls", "Heart like mine", "Kiss of life". There are so many great songs from every decade of their career. He can't go wrong. Chuck was one of the daddies of R&R! I went to the Midnight Special a couple of times and you were told to sit and behave but Chuck blew away that rule.

Black Pegasus is right. Fashion was so different. My macho husband had a see through fishnet tee-shirt that showed his chesthair. Men wore puffy pirate shirts ( like Prince), Neru collared tunics and African dashikis. You dont see any of that in the stores these days. A mainstream style of the 70s was a tight fitting shiny polyester shirt with abstract or flowery patterns on them. Not feminine to wear a flower print back then. Minds were expanded & fashion was not excluded.❤❤❤
@bebic7903
@bebic7903 5 месяцев назад
It's just a sheer shirt, Darlin'. Nothing feminine about it back then. Just the style. Chudk Berry was a phenomenon. Anyone would have been blessed to have had the Bee Gees singing back up for them. ✌

Chuck Berry was one of the greatest songwriters in the history of rock music, not to mention the most influential guitarist. He was a true pioneer of this new genre in the 1950s. “Reelin’ and Rockin’” is one of his songs, and like he did with a couple other of his songs, he sometimes changed the lyrics to be more suggestive during some of his 1970s performances.

I was at this taping! After the show ended Chuck did a 30 minute set just for the audience. 1973 I was in college and attended several Midnight Special tapings. Done at NBC Studios in Burbank. Yes, a lot of guys had long hair then, and it wasn’t considered feminine
