I'm 39, my dad is 74 dying of cancer, my mother, 72, had a stroke in front of me last Thursday as she was trying to tell me a story about my 18 yr old cat trying to get my dad to pet her head with his arm hanging off the couch while he was taking a nap. She just couldn't finish her words and looked at me with this embarrassed look, so I pushed my emotions to the back of my head where they belong as a son now caring for his elderly parents, and I smiled at her and said mom let's go inside and get you something cold to drink.....Her and my father have been married 50 yrs last November. And they still respect each other, still love each other. Another day last week my dad was napping on the couch as he's fighting lung disease along with his cancer from working in a factory without a respirator, he has little stamina, and my mother was sitting beside him on a stool holding his hand gently rubbing his head while crying. Watching your parents slowly die sucks, but I'm sure it's that much harder for her as she watched her father die the same way when she was 20. I am however thankful I had two parents who loved me and still do and were patient with this wild dyslexic against the grain Appalachian son. And I'm grateful for each day I have the honor to serve them as the Bible commands we do with our elders. Great song, great reaction

God bless you honey. My Mom and Dad were married 61 years when she passed away from cancer. Daddy missed her so much that 3 years later he stopped taking a his medicine was admitted to the hospital and signed his own DNR and passed a week later. It's absolutely so heart breaking to watch your elderly parents die before your eyes.

My Father passed away at home from cancer 13 years ago. We watched him waste away and it was so hard to witness. But, my Brother-in-law lost his Mom when he was out of town and it was sudden. He said he didn’t know which was hardest, slowly dying but surrounded by your loved ones while they also suffer and grieve through it, or it just gets slapped straight in your face. I’ve had it both ways, and I still cannot answer the question. God bless you and your family and may he give you comfort and peace.

Randy Bruce Traywick is his birth name. He told his wife that it was too long to put on the records, so he changed it to a shorter last name "Travis" Randy Travis is literally the epitome of classic country music. He has been a part of my childhood growing up and will forever be one of the greatest. In 2013 he was hospitalized with viral cardiomyopathy, a virus that attacks the heart, and later suffered a stroke. He had to relearn how to walk, spell and read in the years that followed and his wife stayed by his side through it all. He even talks about how his fellow country music artists would visit him over the years and supported him as he overcame all the obstacles in his life. Doctors basically said he'd never make it, let alone walk, talk, or sing BUT even though he's not completely as he was before, he's still walking, talking, and recently with the help of AI has released a new song. Never say never, because God is in the miracle business.

Randy Travis has one of those voices you cannot mistaken for another. He had a stroke a few years ago that effected his motor skills, his wife is still by his side and has helped him tremendously. He now goes to award shows, parties with limited ability to talk. He is so courageous and keeps on pushing to get better. He is a beautiful human being. Randy Travis' voice was amazing. He had a stroke and hasn't been able to sing. But he just released a new song with the help of AI - Where That Came From. Check out Deeper Than the Holler, Better Class of Loser, Diggin' Up Bones. I Told You So, 1982, On the Other Hand, It's Just a Matter of Time. Randy's songs are almost neverending. In the 80's and 90's there was also a young man by the name of Tracy Lawrence who had a long string of hits: Alibis, Sticks and Stones, Texas Tornado, Time Marches On, Paint Me a Birmingham, Today's Lonely Fool, How a Cowgirl Says Goodbye, Runnin' Behind, Can't Break it to My Heart, I See it Now, Tracy was shot 4 times in a mugging in Nashville just before his first album was released. A lifelong friend had come to celebrate with him and he was dropping her off at her hotel when three men surrounded them and took their money and keys. When they asked what room they were in, Tracy realized this was not just a robbery. Fearing for their lives, he attacked the man that was holding a gun to his head. The other two focused on shooting at him, allowing his friend to run for help. He was shot in his finger, hip, knee and arm. One bullet came within a fraction of an inch from killing him. I never knew this until a few years ago. Quite a brave guy.

Mom and Dad had 41 years together before he passed in 2015. Sometimes they verbally fought like cats and dogs but they always stayed together through thick and thin..even through him being at home on hospice for his last days. We had to get Mom a twin bed and put it right next to his hospital bed in their room so they could still sleep beside each other. They were holding hands when he finally slipped away.

My dad was a huge country music fan. I grew up listening to this song. Unfortunately, my dad died from cancer in 1988 when I was 16 & he was 60. My parents met when they were teens & married young. They had a very long & loving relationship. When my dad had cancer, it went to his brain & he ended up forgetting who everyone was. We had him on home hospice. At one point, he was trying to get out of bed so my mom thought that by laying in the bed beside him, it might calm him down. I will to this day remember the look of shock on his face and him telling her, "Look lady, I don't know who you think you are, but I am a happily married man." He may not have physically recognized her, but his heart still remembered their love! My mom lived for another 25 years after my dad passed. She never wanted to date anyone. She said that she had found her true love and that no one could ever come close to him in her heart.

Yesterday was my beloved husband, Poppa Eric, birthday. We were together for 24 years I lost him 18 months ago. He was one dialysis for 10 years (the average life span is 3 to 5 years), 2 major heart attacks, quadruple bypass surgery and both legs amputated below the knees. He went through hell on earth because he didn't want to leave me and I was there for him the whole time, except for his double amputations during the plan-demic when no one was allowed visitors. I worked the graveyard shift at the hospital and every morning when I got home, I would check to see if he was breathing if he was asleep because I was terrified that he would have passed all alone while I was at work. Fortunately, he died in my arms on my day off. He was 57. I miss him every day. 🤘 Rock on, Kelly 🤘

I lost my hubby in 2018 at age 46, we were together 28 years and married 26 of them, met in high school. So I know how it feels to be left missing that other half of you. *hugs to you*

Randy was washing dishes in a catfish-centric restaurant when he was "discovered" by some 'high & mighty' record exec... and the rest, as they say, is history... His unique voice, which allowed him to 'sing' in the tenor range but **resonate** when he dipped down low, secured his place in country music history! Blessed Be, & Peace! 🙏☮

I’m crying watching this because I’ve been blessed by a man who still loves me today. Next month we celebrate our 35th anniversary. I’m going through breast cancer and he’s been beside me the whole way. Through chemo, surgery, radiation and hormone blockers… he’s with me. Never give up on true love. 💙💙

Randy Bruce Traywick. What a voice! I’m so sorry for your loss of your mom. I lost my hubby after 30 years too many that is tough. This song was popular during the first part of our marriage. Loved it. Thank you for the memories.

My dad used to sing this chorus to me as a lullabye when I was little. He doesn't sing it anymore, but we still say it. When one of us says "I love you", the other replies "Forever and ever, amen."

Randy was HUGE! I even took my grandmother to one of his concerts back in the 80's. She had never been to a concert before and really liked Randyl She was born in 1907 and my grandfather has passed. She bore him 9 children and they made it through sone really hard time but they made it for close to 60 years of marriage. While Randy is still alive, a couple of strokes destroyed his career, (lost his singing and speaking voice) he has finally released a new record. I have not heard it yet, but always thought he was great.

Can't go wrong with any Randy Travis songs ❤ Dwight Yokam is another great country singer with a very distinctive voice. Saw him in concert in 2017, a couple of months before seeing Kenny Rogers.

My grandparents were married 76 years, then my Grandpa passed away, my Grandma lived another ten years, I was blessed to have both of them until I got old myself, I've been married for 33 years with no chance of getting to 76 years, I married later in life, but we've been happy all of these years and Randy Travis was a big part of our love story. Thank you for listening to and loving it as I knew you would if you ever did! Best of luck in your life! FABULOUS and EXCITING reaction!

Met my husband in our 40’s he spun my heart completely around. Everyone said they don’t make men like that anymore. Wanna bet. My only regret is we didn’t meet earlier. I call him … My Love. ❤

You got me with this one. This was one of my dad's favorite songs. He dedicated it to my mom years ago. We had the record album right after it came out in the '80s. I have it with me in my house. I'm laying my dad to rest tomorrow. My mother is on palliative care for end stage COPD and she is battled breast cancer and lung cancer and she doesn't have much longer and my father passed away last Friday and he loved her for almost 56 years of marriage. It would have been 56 years on May 18th. True love is real and I saw it in my dad and my mom especially after he was diagnosed with brain cancer a month ago. I heard my mom call my dad baby for the first time and tell everyone how much they loved each other. And I heard my mom tell my dad it's time to go home and tell him it was okay and she was going to be okay. And I told him that I would take care of Mom and that my husband was going to take care of me. I'll be married almost 18 years in July. Wait for your best friend. That's the best advice I can give. Thanks Black Pegasus. Amen!❤😢😢

#1 on Billboard's Hot Country Hits in 1987 for multiple weeks. Randy has a great catalog. He was one of the hottest country stars in the mid to late 80's. You would love He Walked on Water as many have mentioned.
