Wrong. Buddy Holly arranged the plane. No way he was not gonna be on it. The Big Bopper is who he gave his seat to. He had the flu and was gonna get treatment when they landed. Tommy Alsup lost the coin flip to Ritchie Valens.
One of Waylon’s most important song is: This Outlaw Sh!t (done got out of hand) The FBI was bound and determined to lock Waylon up … Must read the story and hear the song.
The woman laughing, with the scarf on, was his wife Jesse Colter. She and Waylon were married for 33 years, from 1969 until his death in 2002. She’s also a singer, mother of Shooter Jennings, and grandmother of Struggle Jennings. Struggle’s grandfather was Duane Eddy, her first husband, but Waylon was influential in his life and considered him grandfather.
People will describe Waylon Jennings as a Country music legend, or an icon. They're talking truth. Waylon was a giant, so many great songs. His "WURLITZER PRIZE" is the epitome of what a REAL Country song sounds like, and "DON'T THINK TWICE IT'S ALRIGHT" is pure gold. (The instrument he was playing is a mandolin.)
Waylon was married 4 times. He was a little cynical. The lyric about never walking the line was a reference to Johnny Cash's song Walk the Line. Waylon and Johnny were very close friends and were roommates for a while.
" You've got the Only Daddy that'll will Walk the Line " Is by far the BEST Waylon Jennings song EVER ..................... The Spring RULES !!!! Much Love to my Hometown boy's !!!!!!
The expression "toe the mark" means ready to fight. It comes from prize fighting back in the 1800's. There were was a line (mark) on the ground that the fighters would step up to and when ready put their toe on it to begin the round
Back when a round didn’t end until someone goes down…..had to get up before the count of 10, if they did that was the end of the round, one minute rest, then “toe the mark” to start the next round. Otherwise you quit
I remember one of my aunts that raised me and my sisters, kept complaining about my rock and roll (heavy metal/hard rock in the 80's) then I told her are you paying attention to what your country songs are saying? She didn't talk about my music much after that. So funny. So yes, she complained so I turned it up louder. The thing is I liked her country music as well. Growing up with outlaw country - loved them, both.
You still need to do Luchenbach Texas. Probably his biggest hit with Willie Nelson. Also you still need to do the original outlaw David Allan Coe and his smash hit You never even Call me by my Name (the perfect country and western song)
My favorite songs by Waylon Jennings are " Honky Tonk Heroes," "Dreaming My Dreams," "It's Not Supposed To Be That Way." The pretty lady smiling with the scarf at the end is Jessi Colter, Waylon's wife. She is a great singer. My favorite songs of hers are "I'm Not Lisa, " "Looking For Blue Eyes," and "You Mean to Say."
Toe the mark” is an idiom that means to meet a standard or follow rules. For example, “The new director will make us toe the line, I'm sure”. The idiom has been used figuratively since the early 1800s and refers to runners placing their toes on the starting line of a race and not moving until the signal.
Hey guys, the small guitar looking instrument Waylon was playing mid way through the song is called a mandolin. Used in a lot of blue grass and country.
i really hope you do Waylon Jennings ft Hank Willaims Jr the Conversation u will enjoy this one also please do Waylon Jennings I've always been crazy wrong he has so many great songs
You should react to a live version of him singing his song Waymore's Blues. Sitting next to him is his beautiful wife Jessie Colter. When Waylon sings the line "Every woman she sees looks like a place I came in," you must see the look she shoots at him. Jessie and Waylon were parents of Shooter Jennings. Jessie and her first husband Duane Eddy were grandparents of Struggle Jennings. Waylon's first son was father of Whey Jennings who sounds a bit like Waylon. All the younger generation have careers as singers, writers, musicians. But to my ears, none can hold a candle to Waylon.
Love me some Waylon!!! He's awesome! He has a whole concert that is broken down Into each song! It's got a black background & the Waylon symbol is done in lights!! Outlaw Bit is a fantastic song with a real life story!! He sings a great one with Hank Jr, about Hank Sr. Called... The Conversation!! ❤❤😘Waylon😘❤💯💯💯
Waylon gave up his seat on the plane that carried the Big Bopper, Buddy Holly, and Richie Valens. Buddy told Waylon hope you freeze on that ole bus to which Waylon replied I hope your ole plane crashes. It took years for him to get over that.
Waylon”s songs are the kiss my arse type, but on the flip side, he sang some beautiful, heartfelt love songs. He had such a shoot into your heart voice. Beautiful artist. Forever a legend.
Waylon Jennings was my favorite country western singer when he was in the music scene. Soooo good. Good ole boys is his song😂. This is real country. Todays is watered down crap to me. His voice...
One of the original outlaws, toured with Willie Nelson in the early 80's. Part of the Highwaymen - Waylon, Willie, Cash and Kristofferson - country's Mount Rushmore. Always loved his distinctive warm voice and the twinkle in his eye. An amazing guitarist. Favorites include Luckenbach Texas, Amanda, I've Always Been Crazy, Don't Think Hank Done it this Way. Keep looking You'll be hooked.
I saw Waylon in concert in 1980 and was 1 of the vesr concerts EVER!! Ironically, myfavorite Waylon song is... ONLY DADDY THAT'LL WALK THE LINE!! Although, ANYTHING by Waylon is great!!❤😂
Southern Comfort has been around a loooong time. Janis Joplin sipped it during her live shows. That instrument was a mandolin. Waylon played bass for Buddy Holly back in the day. He was supposed to be on that fateful flight on Feb 3 1959 (the day the music died) but he gave up his seat on that plane to an ailing Big Bopper and road the tour bus.
Waylon also had one called “Only Daddy That Will Walk the Line” He had so many hits you won’t have time to hit them all. I suggest you do “I’ve Always Been Crazy” and “Brown eyed Handsome Man” sometime.
Toe the mark comes from track and field runners stepping up to the starting line but phrase usually means to follow the rules strictly. You also notice the line about "walk the line" referencing Johnny Cash. Waylon started as a touring musician and they all knew each other so yeah, he was referencing the song.
The next Waylon song you need to do is Drinking and Dreaming!!! Great story for those of us doing what we have to do for our family while dreaming about what could have been and still wants to be deep inside of us old souls
Waylon was my Daddy's favorite while I was growing up. In my mid20's I was an FM Country DJ, but the biggest thrill was getting to introduce this man on stage!!
Thank you for keeping Waylon Jennings alive! I love his music. I'm mostly Rock but enjoy some country, jazz, hiphop, blues, all music really! Thanks! Sheila Jennings Barbee
Waylon is the best highwayman and maybe most underappreciated country singer ever. Quietly a top 5 artist. And best guitar player in country music history
Always like hearing your views, even as sometimes putting more into lyrics. As this song is about Waylons way and some wanting to change him. "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out Of Hand" is about law busting in on a recording session you'll enjoy. SO many others. I couldn't stop listening to him, Willie, etc. back in the day. Still listen to this day!!!
That instrument he had is called the mandolin. Its big in bluegrass and some old country. Fun fact, its tuned and played the same as a violin. Violin uses a bow and the mandolin uses a pick but they're strung and played the same
This reminds me of another country song called "Don't Get Hooked on Me" by Mac Davis. The guy who wrote and recorded "In the Ghetto," that Elvis made famous.
I used to do marquetry as a hobby. My first project was a Waylon eagle symbol, inlayed with oak & walnut. I wore it on my hat for a few years. They I had a chance to meet Waylon, and gave it to him. He wore it on his jacket on stage. Back before cameral phones, so all I have is the memory.
I am a first-timer for this song sobcannot help you but I am sure many others have helped you already!! Lots of fun watching two rappers "diggin" country songs.I am learning by watching your channel.i have determined that "Outlaw" is to Country, what "Gangsta" is to Rap !! Thanks guys. 😊
Dude, I grew up in the 70's n 80's a fan of country, classic rock and 80's hairbands. Waylon, Merle Haggard, Johnny Paycheck and Hank Williams Jr were my fav's in country
Lonesome, onry and Mean is 1 of my favorites. Being the daughter of the man they called Waylon and was a great musician and had his own band for 50 yrs, named me after Crystal Gale and sang with him, I know all of his music. To me, I wish more Men and women would be upfront and honest from the get go. It would save a lot of heartbreak and wasted time. It's the want their cake and eat it to scenario nowadays
Check out Chris Stapleton. Tennessee Whiskey with Justin Timberlake at the CMA awards. Also, Fire Away, Cold, Mans World. Also the band 2:38 2:39 2:41 Heartland- I loved her first. Tim Mcgraw- Don't take the girl and Live like you were dying
Waylon, ( my grandson is named after him), Johnny, Merle, Gary Stewert, and Tom Jones were real rebels! Especially Gary! It wasn’t just a gig. My momma actually saw Merle on the side for years.
Never Could Toe the Mark was released at a pivotal time for Jennings, who was trying to get sober after over twenty years of drug abuse, beginning with amphetamines in the late 1960s and early 1970s and cocaine into the mid-1980s. In the audio version of his autobiography Waylon, he recalled that he was in such bad physical shape that he decided to take off April 1984 so he could clean up and get his health back, although he still intended to use: "I told Jessi [Colter, Waylon's wife] I'd always be a drug addict and I'd always do cocaine, and that this was just temporary, to slow it down." Jennings rented a house in Arizona and went cold turkey, and it was largely because of his young son Shooter that he decided to quit drugs for good. Peace out.
of ALL the Waylon songs to react to - this is NOT even in the top 20 of his catalogue - ""His Honky Tonk Hero's"" is THE song that kickstarted to whole outlaw movement - his "Luckenbach TX" is still played in all CW dance halls/honky-tonks out there - His "Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow -up To Be Cowboys" an iconic song - His "Good Hearted Woman" was inspire by Tina Turned & her issues with Ike - WAYLON IS A LEGEND!!!!! His "Outlaws" album was the 1st Million selling in country music!!!! A very DEEP well - that is a mandolin - mainly in bluegrass bands!!
Waylon changed to Outlaw Country ,but before(in the 60s) ,he was more traditional country and he had a hit song called "The Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line" .This song is kind of the opposite of that earlier song.Back in the day when he had short hair and wore suits when he sang.
On February 3rd, 1959. "The Day the Music Died"-Don Mclean. Rock Icons, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and JP Richardson aka the Big Bopper. All died in a plane crash. Waylon Jennings was supposed to be on that flight. He loses the coin toss and has to go by bus to the next concert to join Buddy Holly. That never happened. He would go on to become a Country Western Music Icon for the rest of his life.
Am loving your Waylon journey! You have to do "Outlaw Bit" "The Conversation" (with Hank Jr.) and "Ramblin ' Man" (He also does an incredible cover of Seger's "Turn the Page" ) Great reaction as always guys! (Edited to add, that's a mandolin, he switches out with. Waylon could play anything with strings pretty much.)
