Tysvm for reacting to this . He did play some backup for The Isley Brothers , and Little Richards , before he went and did his own i think , but dont hold me to it lol .Jimi was considered to be the one , that innovated , and figured out the combined sound of , what a guitar could do, when U plugged it in ! All Along The Watchtower is a must after this !! I think .The song Purple Haze was inspired by a book Jimi read , and then fell asleep . He dreamt he was underwater and surrounded by a purple haze or something like that , so not really sure if It had anything to do with drugs at all.

He played upside down because he was left handed. Common for lefties because it was hard to find left handed guitars. Lemmy was his roadie when he played in England. Not like a full time roadie.

Jimi's so effing brilliant I literally tear up watching him. It's just sheer beauty and genius. He played for the Isley Brothers and Jimmy James and the Blue Flames before he moved to London and formed The Experience. His big US debut with them was at Monterey Pop (check out that performance of Wild Thing to see how he left the audience literally speechless). FYI - The very first weed shop I ever went to was in Washington (Jimi's home state) was named Purple Haze.

Yup, Jimi played a right-handed guitar upside down - it's one of the things that made his sound unique (that and being a guitar genius). He was in a couple of bands before moving to the UK and forming the Experience. He became a sensation in the UK before becoming famous in the US after playing at the Monterey rock festival. A suggestion for another top guitarist to react to - watch a live video of Dire Straits' "Sultans of Swing". Mark Knopfler is no Hendrix, but he's still amazing.

👋🏻🥴☕ Jimi Hendrix ' Experience ' ' Purple Haze ' ( Live video) ©1967 ' Are You Experience ' is My favorite song & album ... Jimi used to be a sky jumper in the US Army: Hendrix signed up for three years in the Army but, after 13 months of guitar playing, missing bed checks and barely passing his PT tests, he was drummed out. He was given an honorable discharge and the chance to become a counterculture music legend " DEUCES! " ✌🏻😸✌🏻

Saw his last live performance, before he died 3mths later,at the legendary Isle of Wight festival in 1970. He came on stage at about 4.45am and the first chord woke EVERYONE up. I was 16 and I thought to myself, yep, this life is gonna be great. that decade was my pinnacle, the 80’s was great but by the 90’s,the magic was starting to fade away. Tell me I’m wrong (I still couldn’t give a damn)

Jimi Hendrix was in A LOT of different bands. His first solo band was The Jimi Hendrix Experience, but he also had The Band Of Gypsys. In his early days he also played with Little Richard and James Brown's bands. He had a different name for the band, which I can't remember, he played with at Woodstock, but I think it was only for that one event. Jimi played a Fender Stratocaster most of the time, and he played it UPSIDE DOWN, because he was left-handed. Fender wasn't making lefty guitars, yet.

Hendrix was one of the icons of music...I call them the Mortal Gods. Like Jim Morrison, he changed the face of music. (Look up a recording of him playing the guitar behind his back). They're legends for a reason: they connected with music and expressed it in a way few people can. And they brought back their visions to us.

His first legit band of his own was The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Later he played as The Band of Gypsies with different rhythm sections. Great stuff all along. Gotta love power trios. The British guys all craved distortion and overdrive after Jimi. You can see the Stevie Ray influence now, can't ya?! Stevie Ray had 2 guitar dads...Jimi Hendrix and his brother Jimmie Vaughn. One was electric fire. The other smooth like whiskey. peace

Purple Haze was a Marijuana strain that produced a balanced & uplifting high. Most people say it originated out of Thailand, while others claim from Columbia. This strain has a high THC content of up to 24%, which made it very potent. It also had a high CBD level, which made it very good for medical Marijuana use. The Jimi Hendrix Experience was a band formed by Chas Chandler to support & back Jimi and to assist in getting Jimi's music out to the people. Yes, Jimi was left handed & therefore used a left handed guitar. Hendrix almost always wore a headband, under which he would line up acid hits so it would slowly absorb into the skin on his forehead while playing onstage. Technically, he died of asphyxia & choked on his own vomit, after taking an extreme amount of barbiturates. So, yes, a barbiturate OD. I loved him & his music. Still do today!!!

If I recall...Jimi worked the clubs and played sessions, live bands etc...back in the day. Backing The Isley Brothers, Little Richard, Joey Dee and the Starlighters. Jimi was not gaining much traction in the states in the early-mid 60s. Jimi went to England where he met former Animals member Chas Chandler. Chas helped him develop his sound. England received Jimi well and he went back to the states as a successful act and became well known with his appearance at the Monterey Pop Festival.

I stayed awake until Jimi started to play after 2 days of high times (BTW, Purple Haze was acid at the time, made by Owsley but the song is not about the drug). Hendrix was just ahead of his time. Think about it in the mid 60s you didnt have anybody that sounded anything like him. The closest may had been like Eric Clapton when he was with the Yardbirds and Cream. From what i can recall, he started playing guitar as a teen and at one point was a backing guitarist for some r&b artists before making it big, Isley Brothers, James Brown and Little Richard being the main ones. What still is mind boggling is how young he was and how short his run as a solo artist lasted, we're talking maybe four years max. So to play and sing a song like Purple Haze at 23 or 24 is just even more amazing. Easily top 5 guitsrist of all time at lowest.

Jimi was heavy metal before there was heavy metal ! Actually the term "Heavy Metal " was coined by a guy that said Jimi Hendrix guitar sounded like heavy metal falling from the sky lol that's how the term was born even though it took a little later when Black Sabbath came out with their sound people claim the sound came from the Birmingham steel industry city where Black Sabbath came from but when I heard voodoo child slight return by Hendrix I knew he was one of the first heavy metal artists even if they didn't put him in that category because of his electric blues and psychedelic rock style , Hendrix changed a lot for guitar and music than he gets credit for. I went from playing U2 Edge style guitar in the late 80s to trying to get that psychedelic sixties rock sound out of my guitar as soon as I heard Hendrix I was hooked .

I vaguely remember a story about him playing with James Brown as a guitarist. apparently he let him go with a couple months pay and a recommendation to start his own band because he was "too talented to be in the background". although I'm only about 50% sure as I can't remember the source, and I am too damn tired and achy with the flu to bother looking it up for sure.

The reason he never played the song the same way was that he was tripping on lsd in every concert he was known to keep hits in his bandanna

I think in this performance it was Billy Cox on bass, who became his bassist in Band of Gypsies.

At that time, we knew NOTHING about great guitar playing. When Clapton heard him play in a club he felt like giving it all up! He was THE one back then.

He was part of the 27 club. Janice Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison… there are more but I can’t think of them at the moment

He did string his guitar that way, but it didn't matter how it was strung! Hendrix could play it ANYWAY! 😎😆

Fun fact eric Clapton bought him a lefthanded guitar. But jimi passed away before he could give it to him. By the way jimi played for little Richard as a kid.

Saw Hendrix twice in one day. He would do a matinee sometimes.

Hendrix was not left handed. He was mixed handed. He played guitar left handed but would throw a ball or sign his name right handed. He also could play guitar left or right handed equally as well. See Ron Woods video on his remembrance of He and Jimi sharing a flat together.
