Wasn't it the case that none of them did, originally? I remember hearing that they toured for an extraordinarily long time, and when they finally came home, they were so exhausted, that they had to take at least a year off. That's when the beards grew. Basically, they were just feeling super lazy and tapped. Drummers have a much more physical job than people who play stringed instruments, and, thus, tend to be the most fit person in the band. (So, maybe he wasn't feeling quite as lazy as the other fellas.) This is just my take on the story. It's definitely hilarious, and ironic, but still somehow makes sense, in my mind.

Gibbons particularly noticed B.B. King and Z. Z. Hill and thought of combining the two into "ZZ King", but considered it too similar to the original name. He then figured that "king is at the top" which gave him the idea of naming the band "ZZ Top

I would categorize ZZ Top as Southern Rock, or blues rock. And I'm not a Ford guy, but that 34' Ford (known as Eliminator) is SO CLEAN! Iconic, sexy and cool as hell car. Jimmie Hendrix has said that he is a fan of Billy Gibbons as well.

Hey Hollywood 6ix, the video with the spinning guitars is "Legs", another one from the "Eliminator" album. Saw ZZ Top twice on that tour, plus an earlier concert on the Taking Texas To The World Tour in 1977. Have to consider ZZ a Blues Rock band, especially on their early stuff, which is their best stuff, IMO. "Blue Jean Blues", "Waiting For The Bus>Jesus Just Left Chicago", "Le Grange", "Tush", "Mexican Blackbird" or "Pearl Necklace". Lots more where these came from.

Take a deep breath and then swallow that air down and hold for a quick 30 count. Cures them every time. Hiccups are an imbalance of air in the diaphragm, therefore, pushing air down and letting it stabilize is the cure. I taught myself this when I was about 13 and it never fails.

Leisure suit Larry?!? I loved those games. I'm growing my beard out but not that far. So far it's about 3 inches long. Pychostick has an epic song about beards. Its called obey the beard. My cure for hiccups is pure oxygen. I would take a few deep breaths off the oxygen tank at our shop. Many years ago someone introduced that to me for hangovers. Since I don't drink anymore I use it for headaches and hiccups. It also gives you a boost like coffee.

The car, called Eliminator, is actually not a Deuce, but, a '33. Billy Gibbons commissioned it's construction in 1976 from Don Thelan's Buffalo Motors hot rod shop. It featured on the cover of their 10x Platinum album, "Eliminator". I believe it's in the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Lame now.

ZZ Top got big in 68. I was born in 78. ZZ is my dad's favorite band. I grew up with ZZ. Billy Gibbons was a fan of BB King, and came up with the repeating ZZ and Top to emulate the repeating BB and King, hence ZZ Top. ZZ Top is blues rock. Pantera were big fans of ZZ Top and considered themselves highly influenced by them, helping Pantera to consider themselves "groove metal" because of influences like ZZ Top...Pantera even did a cover of Heard It On The X by ZZ...two of my favorite bands 💙

The first time I saw ZZ Top was in 1975 (first of 7 times) with KANSAS as the opening act. KANSAS was on tour for their second album titled “Song For America”, and ZZTOP was touring for their fourth album “Fandango”. Tickets cost a ridiculous price. $5.50! I’ve been a fan of both bands starting with their debut albums. ♥️✌🏼😎

Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard. Frank is the drummer, and he is the one that doesn't have the beard! Sadly Dusty Hill has passed away, but Billy Gibbons usually has a mic stand with him on stage, and hangs Dusty's hat on it during live shows. I think the guitar spins and fuzzy guitars are in "Legs" and "Gimme all your lovin'" from the same album named "Eliminator" which is the name of the deuce coupe. The dancing girls dress in SERIOUS 80s clothes in all 3 of these vids, and it's just one more reason that these vids are cherished by those of us that lived through them.

ZZ Top qualifies as blues rock and classic rock. Most of their 70s stuff was more bluesy, but when MTV came out they went more pop and started using drum machines. But in live performances, Frank Beard would still be playing the drum kit. Legs, Gimme All Your Loving and Sharp Dressed Man were kind of connected. Fun fact: ZZ Top didn't originally have the long beards. During a break from touring in the late 70s, Billy and Dusty started growing them and the rest is history. Gillette even offered them a million dollars to shave the beards and safe to say, they rejected the offer, because they said that they'd look ugly without them. Have Mercy!

The car, 33 Ford coupe, known as “The Eliminator” after the album, was commissioned and is still owned by ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons…..there were 5 singles off that album, 3 of which are all tied together….this one, Gimme All Your Lovin’ and Legs…..you need to see the other two, guys! 😊

ZZ Top's genre is sometimes called Texas Boogie or boogie rock. I wouldn't call them southern rock as they sound too different from other southern artists. But there is definitely a boogie type sound with their music.

Just a few fun facts the drummer his name is Frank beard . Had no beard . Dusty hill just passed and in the outro of a video they were sitting around drinking and playing cards talking about how the jammed and hung out with.. Jimi Hendrix . One of their bluesy influences .

when I was like 13-14 I physically ran into Billy Gibbons in a gas station, I knew who he was but couldn't get any words out, he just looked down at me, smiled and walked out the door. My friends didn't believe me until a bus covered in ZZ TOP across the side pulled out from behind the station.

ZZ Top was my first concert. They were the headliner with Zebra and Cheap Trick opening. On their, ZZ Top, 40th anniversary tour I got to see them twice. In the Summer at an outdoor show and inside during the Winter, at the same casino. During that first concert and the last two was about thirty of those forty years and they sounded just as great as they did that first time.

Seen them live a couple of years ago a few months after their bassist, Dusty Hill passed. Great show. Their guitar tech played bass and killed it. La Grange is my favorite song. They are in their early 70s and still rock out.
