Yeah, "the Greatest Space-Fantasy Of All Times" was on the cover of the first Marvel Comic. George Lucas and Mark Hamill along with Harrison Ford have all called it "fantasy". People even try to compare Star Trek (Science FICTION) and Star Wars (Science FANTASY). Maybe the Force is not with them. (",)

@Echocookie8948
@Echocookie8948 8 лет назад
and the thing is is that they aren't right. People didn't love Star Wars for the special effects. They enjoyed it for the special effects. But for something to grow so big as Star Wars, the audience truly has to have some sort of attachment, which I believe they did through the characters and the tension between different characters. That is why the fandom still exists today.
@orlock20
@orlock20 8 лет назад
+Echocookie Some of the special effects was either improved from earlier attempts or down right invented. Obviously any sci-fi director would want to play with these new inventions which blew their money in the form of not getting decent writers and actors.

Also I like how he gives a shout out to the set builders straight off, first thing. Paying respects to the people he worked alongside before he got his break. This was not too far removed from that time period and I'd imagine that he thought there was a good chance he might end up with a saw in his hand again after Star Wars mania wore off.

Saw it in 1977 when it came out...Nobody had any idea what it was or where it came from nor had we seen any commercials about the movie (I live in france) I went to see it cause my sister and I where suckers for science fiction. We found much more than science fiction that day. it was like watching a world champion football match and any new image right to the final scene on the death star was built up till it came to a climax of joy and tension. I remember people doing a standing ovation the first and last i saw after watching a film. It was one of the few moments in life that stuck in my memory forever.

It's so lovely to watch this interview from 1977 and thinking that literally no one could every imagine how big this franchise would ever be or have my lives it would change, how it would change the way we look at blockbuster movies, franchises and making of movies. Star Wars was so groundbreaking. So it is so incredible to watch this interview and see how Harrison is doing an interview for this new "fantasy movie" - not really know what is waiting ahead for him and the rest of this world. I'd do anything to go back in time to sit through the first screening of Star Wars: A New Hope and see other peoples reaction and also experience the movie for a very first time. Harrison also looked amazing in this interview and his voice was so smooth and calming, he sure hasn't changed until today.

He has such a way with words and comes across so genuine. Would love to have the chance to meet him. One of the few in the Hollywood world I've been a fan of for decades. It will be a very sad day when he is no longer making films and I'm both curious and nervous to see what the next Indiana Jones installment will be like.

Wow, watching an interview with an actor who would define action movies for decades in an interview about one of his first films that would define a genre of film for decades. As a kid I can distinctly remember going to see Empire with my dad and being completely overwhelmed by how awesome it was. Younger people grew up in an era where big budget AAA films with grandiose visual effects were the norm, but back when these movies came out there was nothing like them. And Harrison was such an amazing protagonist, so cool yet so approachable, it made you want to be him when you grew up. I wish I could go back and talk to this young, suave Harrison Ford and tell him..."Never do more than three movies in any one role my man. Trust me, no matter how much money they throw at you, just don't do it."

I like they way they interviewed back then - you don't even see the interviewer till the very end. Camera just stays put on the star. I like that. Also, he's such a hunk. Wow I love Harrison

"Why do we like Star Wars?".... "Well, it's about people...it's not about science..." He's right, the heart of the story is drama between the characters. The science fiction is the context, which helps establish the tone, and wonderment aspects of everything. But, the characters and the acting are what really sell the first movie.

Of the film Star Wars: "Why do people like this?" Cos George, I heard, studied Joseph Campbell's identification of the heroic cycle found throughout mythologies around the world, and it is a human motion through life, and chimed very deeply with lots of people. Star Wars follows one of the oldest ways to tell a story, and the structure is a fundamental mode of human expression. Beneath the gloss of genre is story-telling, so George could have set the film a number of ways, Yet sci-fi is the frontier of space exploration in our lives, so this also plays a part as well.
