I also just appreciate that the interviewer is LOOKING AT Andre. Hes talking to him they are having a full conversation together. Thats the sign of a good interviewer. Hes making casual conversation while interviewing him. Rare to find that nowadays.
He wasn't that gentle at all actually. He's done some shit. Once he flipped a car over after getting road rage. If he disliked a wrestler, he would beat the shit out of him in the ring. He was a rough dude.
He didn't flip a car because of road rage. He flipped the car of a bunch of drunk Frat Boys who were throwing cans of beer at his head and mocking him.
@@g13n79 he flipped the care because people were being insanely rude in a restaurant. But he had some guys he just didn’t like for this reason or that. Randy Savage, Jake the Snake, Big John Stud, the Iron Shiek, and apparently the Ultimate Warrior. He was human. But imagine living like that nothing is built to accommodate you in travel or hotels even the toilets. I imagine that would be even more challenging in Japan a guy like that they really should have made some custom arrangements. Imagine having to use the bath tube as the toilet it had to be a very annoying thing to deal with and the few times he went after someone it really was because they usually were being very disrespectful.
He is so well-spoken and articulate despite English being a second language. I also like how honest and direct Andre is during interviews. Amazing man.
@@michaellandon1960 it's bloody great and these dude tryed to Sue Andre the Giant and that interview people are talking about also worldwide championship wrestling Australia on RU-vid ok Kim Everrett Tasmania Australia
Vince McMahon Jr. tricked him a little before is retirement of the wrestling world ... he did that to other athlete (Bret "the hitman" Hart). Andre was always a great guy and always work even if it was almost impossible for him to walk at the end of his career.
Yeah, I agree with your sentiments Kurt m8, Andre was being totally genuine there, he's lovely. he was from a small french farming village, I have been there and seen them, so from a boy from a small rural village to WWF headliner was an achievement
Stubbled across this, Great to watch this lovely guy,a real nice chap with manners and class, A bit different from the ill-mannered people we have today
I remember watching this live, as a kid, my Mum and Dad let me stay up late to see Andre live on Australian tv. Dad and I loved watching the wrestling when I was a kid, brings back a lot of great memories. Sadly all 3 of these lovely men have now passed away. Andre the giant, Don Lane( tv host/ interviewer) and sadly just last year we lost the other gentleman one of our Australian legends, Bert Newton. God Bless them all xx
camonthejam below uses the "s" word in his reply, and gets "7" likes, from a post only 2 days ago. But my vulgar response to WrestletopiaTV's post gets 'nothing'? And I did not use foul language. Screw life.
And just a quick mention for the interviewer named Don Lane. A young New Yorker landed in Australia in the 1960's. By the 70's he was one of the most respected people on Australian television. A wonderful personality, he was loved by all and we adopted him as our own. Don passed away in Sydney in 2009. RIP.
@Paul Appleby No... his accent is so crazy it would be like me believing Paul Hogan was Californian just because I saw him in a movie set in Los Angeles.
@Paul Appleby lol Arnold is definitely not American. The 80s were a wild time.. I don't know why you're taking such offense anyway...I would literally kill to be an Australian and renounce my American citizenship immediately. You don't know what it's like to live here...
I met him when I was a kid. He was wrestling at Steel Pier. I met him outside when he was arriving. My mom and brother were there with me. He was very friendly and shook my hand. It was like shaking hands with a catchers mitt. And as gentle as a pillow. Truly he was a class act!!! RIP Andre!! I will never forget you.
He was such a good dude. I felt so bad for him during these interviews because they were more like freak shows. I really hope Andre is on a better place.
It's so true in every interview it's the same questions it's all about his size! I would love to find an interview where they didn't talk about how big he was and you could learn more information about this great man
LOL strong is an underestimate of Andre's strength he once flipped a car over when 4 guys pissed him off and they were in that car so yeah strong is an underestimate.......
I just smile watching him talk. He talks about his mother being 5'2"...then I imagine him as my sweet son...how my heart would miss him so far away in America, gone for months at a time being a superstar...
One of my favorite pictures of Andre is the one where he is holding a beer can, and it looks like it is the size of one of those small V8 cans. His hands are gigantic
I love the pictures on the internet of Andre holding his little daughter Robin Christensen Roussimoff. Gentle giant indeed and a beautiful human being he was.
What a gentleman. Such a beautiful human being he was and now he taught so many of us to live life to truth and peace and happiness. God bless him and everything he did for our humanity. Entertainment and just being kind. You can’t make this stuff up. Thank you to him and his family. God bless.
I remember watching this episode when I was a kid. it was the don lane show televised on Australian TV back in the late 70s /early 80s.Good show with brilliant guests.Andre showed his true self here.
I really like this host. He is sincere and decent and not taking pot-shots or making fun of Andr'e. Classy He brought the best out of Andr'e and seemed genuinely interrested. Andr'e indeed is a gentle giant as well.
Andre in The Princess Bride showed the skills this man has. Not just in the ring but in many areas. What a great man and talent. Made his on way for sure.
Been a Andre fan since the 80s and that interview was more information that I didn't know watching years of docs and shows salute to the old school!!!!!
I can’t watch this without getting tears in my eyes. I was only 7 when he passed away but I was fortunate enough to have some very faint memories of watching WrestleMania 3 as a child. He was such a sincere man. His composure and grace went beyond his physical abilities. We still miss you 20 years later big man.
it was so sad seeing this legend, bigger than life personality towards the end of his career, suffer so much and hardly able to walk due to his condition, one of my favourite andre moments has to be his face turn at wrestlemania 6 seeing the crowd erupt when he grabs bobby heenan and leave on his own to a standing ovation. both andre and heenan are sorely missed to this day and will never be forgotten.
of all the wrestlers, of all the actors, of all the celebrities in the history of history, i have yet to ever hear of anyone saying anything negative about Andre. its a shame that we dont have more like him in this day and age. RIP Giant. RIP. may your legacy live forever!
I got a negative Andre story. I was at Fresno airport 87-89 I was young. All the wrestlers were at the airport. I got many autographs honky, million, rockers, Bret hart, Hercules. Andre was sitting alone and i was trying to gain the courage to approach. Another boy and his mother went and asked and he said NOOOOOOO! That was it. Turned down an autograph. Probably having a bad day. Idk.
@@crossingtheexile4937 I personally have to say that is understandable. Even if they live from fans' attention, they probably get thousands and thousands of such requests.. and if it's been long travelling days, no alone time .. i can understand it.
Andre didn’t like a lot of wrestlers , and when they got in the ring with him , they certainly paid the price. Jake the snake once said he wrestled Andrea on a day where he wasn’t to happy and almost yank jakes hair out in a match.
I saw him entering the arena at a wrestling match. I was about 10. He walked by me,and my life changed. Giants are real!! He was captivating. And a truly classy gentleman ❤
He just held up 380-400 lbs in a half curl for 20 seconds! Also, Don was 6'4 and Bert was 6'0. Andre's hands are always thing that get me though. Rest in peace Andre
@@adamconnell2899 I've read different reports about his height. Near the end I've seen that he had fallen a few inches below 7' from back surgeries and degeneration. And his actual height was between 7' & 7'2" at the height of his career.
Thanks for posting this, what a humble amazing man with exceptional genetics. He truly is a giant and he looks very similar in the face to Lou Ferrigno.
Hats off to Don Lane. This is probably one of the best interviews I’ve seen with André in a while. No rapid-fire questions about shoe size or weight or any of that. He’s treated with the utmost respect and care here, and you can tell how comfortable André feels just by how frankly he talks to Mr. Lane. At some points, it sounds like he’s just having a conversation with an old friend. He’s given plenty of time to collect his thoughts and comes up with some very insightful, personal answers. I’m sure this was, in part, some great emotional therapy for him. Good stuff.
A video title that didn't lie for once. This is a gem of an interview where Andre is really getting personal. I've read and watched a lot about him and this is the first time I can think of where it was said that he spoke Polish in the home.
"He was a quiet man.... a (wrestling) craftsman." The older I get, the more I like and admire Andre Roussimoff. It's not just the wrestling skill-set and spectacle which was extraordinary. The guy just went about his business, made his living, lived life to the fullest and never screwed anybody over. Later you learn that some of the wrestling legends you grew up with were not good people behind the scenes. Andre is one of my absolute favourites. Check out his biography "The 8th Wonder of the World" that two guys did on him. It's really great.
Fantastic video of André at his genial best. Great to see the good nature of the Giant and two legends of Aussie TV, Don Lane and Bert Newton. RIP to all of them
We probably wont be blessed with someone like Andre ever again, he was something else. Made 12oz cans look like shot glasses, could drink several cases of beer without needing to pee or even feeling it, was so strong he could flip cars over, but was the nicest person in the world if you treated him with respect.
impressive. he picked up 200 pounds on each arm and didn't even strain. I heard about one time some men at a club made him mad. He followed them out to the parking lot. they all got in their car and locked the doors and he just turned the car upside down.
The stupid guys throws beers bottles on André's head, 3 times😢He was a kind guy! After the 3rd, he purchased them outside😂They pee and poop into their stupid jeans, and André lift the car😂It's à true story😂
@@julienmarquet8612 bonjour! "purchased", c'est acheter quel'que chose, faire un achat. le mot que tu cherche, c'est "pursued", qui veux dire une poursuite, ou poursuivi. ciao!
So much respect to this host letting Andre speak the man had such a big heart but sad that he got treated by people Rest In Peace Andre you are missed and love by so many 😪❤
