Rare Beauty Tinted Lip Oils- do you actually need them? Let's talk about other alternatives 

Thank you SO much for the comparisons! When the rare beauty lip oils came out, my immediate reaction was curiosity as to how they compared to Korean lip tints since they seemed so similar. Pulling out my romand lip tints to see if I have any similar colours now!

Calling them lip oils is confusing 😕 I might buy them for a certain shade but knowing it's similar to romands lip tints I'll pass for now. I already have and love my glasting and dewful tints. Thanks for helping me save my coin Amanda 😆🙏🏾

100% agree, was looking at the swatch videos thinking it doesn't look like a lip oil more a lip stain/tint. I always think of lip oils being a bit sheerer which is the appeal to me.

Omg I cannot WAIT for your K-beauty lip stain/product vid! Stains have always been more my vibe. They’re effortless, long-lasting, comfortable, transfer-proof and gorgeous. I’m perpetually on the hunt for my holy grail stain, though, and I have very similar coloring to you so I can’t wait to see all the lovely options!

I really appreciate down to earth realistic reviews like this, a lot of the time people are too hyped when a brand launches a new product and it's always the BEST and NEWEST when in reality there are probably so many alternatives. (not sure how I feel about them calling it a lip oil when it's more of stain) Love the spotlight you gave to KBeauty too, I love Rom&nd and have all the formulas you just mentioned lol. This perspective in the beauty community is highly needed and valued

Knowing now that this formula is close to the Romand glasting tints, I’m even more excited to try the Rare Beauty one because the Romand one is truly one of the best lip formulas on the market! 😍😍

Great observation, Amanda! I totally agree. I love Rom&nd! Every time a Western or European makeup brand comes out with something “new”, I just see something that Korean or Japanese brands already have.

I’m so glad lip tints are getting more common. I’ve always been a lip tint girl because of how convenient it is to use. I only need to reapply once or twice during a long day. Being so busy I have no time for constant touch ups.

So thankful for this video! It's super easy to get caught up in the hype of these products when in reality, it's rare to find a product that is completely unique...especially these since K-beauty has been doing these for a while! I like lip oils but it's been such a buzzword and half of them are straight up glosses haha

You're spot on Amanda, these aren't lip balms or oils, its just a lip stain, we've seen similar ones in dior lip tattoos or sephora collection lip stains and countless other brands with their lip stains. They should have launched them as lip stains because its misleading to market a stain as a balm or oil. Btw I suffer from chronically chapped and cracked af lips and the only thing that has ever actually helped with that is clarins lip oil. I swear by those. Used countless lip oils and balms but none ever worked as good as that

Thanks for the review! I ordered 3 of the lip oils and the two new blushes last night so will get in the mail. I did not realize they were stains also until I went to Sephora and tried them on my hand today. Definitely stains. Totally ok for me tho. And their blushes are my fav liquid blush formula so I can’t wait to use my new ones.

I just placed an order at Sephora yesterday for one of the new rare beauty liquid blushes (shade virtue) and I was certainly tempted by these "lip oils" but I'm glad I didn't because I too am a lover and lowkey collector of the rom&nd glasting lip tints lmao! I guess the only con on the kbeauty lippies have is always the same color palette, we rarely get deep or highly saturated colors. First time I applied the Glasting tint it was so hydrating that my dead skin peeled off and my lips got so smooth, love it.

The reason why i love when western beauty work together with k-beauty is the combination of vast colour range & great formula come together. K-beauty sucks at giving colour range. Don’t get me wrong, the colours are indeed pretty, but it lacks nuance & range. They seem to stick to the same colour palette & schemes because they cater to only light skin tones. They don’t usually do muted, nuanced & nude colours well.

Thank you for the in depth analysis! The comparisons were helpful because I don't know that much about Asian beauty. However I would like to posit that just because it is not like other oils on the market, that doesn't mean it's not an oil. The water retaining properties it has (the "water barrier") comes from either waxes or oils, and if the barrier is formed from oil instead of waxes, that makes it an oil by definition. I am happy to hear you think the staining power on these are good! I have been looking for something that is staining, hydrating, and punchy all at the same time. 😊

Yep, my first thought were the romand juicy lip tints, from which I have a bunch from. And I'm super happy with them. When I saw the rare beauty ones I was intrigued, but now I know I don't need them, since I have a bunch of romand tints. Thanks!

When you described Rare Beauty's formula it instantly reminded me of Unleashia's Non-Sticky Dazzle Tint. works the same way as Rare beauty and Romand's Water tint but it has little specks of glitter in it.

Just by your description, I feel like they’re similar to YSL’s glossy stains! I just placed my order for Honesty, Delight, and Serenity last night :D

I understood your point and I’m grateful for that, but for example I live in Brazil and unfortunately we don’t have access to these other alternatives. So, Rare Beauty lip oil was innovative for us. I would love to try these products that you mentioned in your video! They are cheaper and pretty ❤

Thank you for this video! I was actually super excited by the Rare Beauty “Lip Oils” because of the staining, but then I got one, put it on, and discovered that it was plumping. I generally avoid plumping lip products because really they’re just irritants, which isn’t great. I didn’t love while I could feel the plumping, and I hated the wrinkly feeling my lips got after the plumping wore off, so I came back to this video to get some alternatives. Well, I just got some of the Juicy Lasting Tints and the Glasting Water Tints today, and I’m already pretty psyched. The Juicy Lasting Tint left a lovely stain on my lips, but NO PLUMPING! Thanks for all the care you take in your reviews and comparisons!

I just ordered Delight from Sephora today ❤️ I checked out the Dior lip oil but the colors didn't look like anything I'd wear. The Rare beauty one had some good colors.

Thank you for this. 😊 Another lip oil/lip stain hybrid I'd recommend are Hard Candy Syrup Kiss Lip Stains. They are pigmented and creamy with a good amount of heft and leave a pretty substantial stain. Now...I used to see these at Walmart but I haven't seen them in the last year or so.

Great video! Love the breakdown of the product. Not the takeaway I got that from the website. These also kind of remind me of the Maybelline lip vinyls which last forever though they do lose their sheen.

I saw that Ulta re-released their matte cream eyeshadows as 'Longwear Matte Cream Eye Shadow'. They have some of the older shades and a couple of new ones. Would love to see how these compare to the old formula!

YSL Lip Oil Lipstick 💄 is sooo beautiful and smells amazing 😻

It reminds me of the new Peripera Water Bare Tint since it has more of a stain than the Romand ones. But some of the shades of Rare Beauty are ones we don’t usually see in kbeauty and has a stronger stain.

Rare Beauty has another similar product to rom&nd - Lip Souffle and Zero Velvet Tint are incredibly similar! In a way, I'd say that Lip Souffle is slightly more comfortable on the lips (if I wear Zero Velvet Tint while it's really cold outside, my lips get dry, but that doesn't happen if I have the Lip Souffle on). However, Zero Velvet Tint comes in incredible shades and beats Lip Souffle in that. The amount of burnt orange, brick and terracotta shades in K-beauy lip products is mind-blowing and I think it's something that western makeup has to pay attention to! Even though these shades are warm, there are so many variations and you will most certainly find the one that's perfect for you!

After watching your k beauty haul, I placed my first order and got the apple brown lip stain and a hyaluronic acid sunscreen that you recommended and I have been absolutely loving them! Absolutely different from anything else I own. 😊😊😊

You just reminded me, I do have a request if possible. If I have the lorac noir palette, do I need the glam palette? I absolutely love cool toned shadows, but the noir 57 cad, the glam, 87 cad and I am just a nano channel. Also, thank you for what you do, I am absolutely obsessed (in a good way 😅) with you. You have turned me onto so many gorgeous eyeshadow colours that I adore, I just like to put them on more saturated than you do cause I missed 20 years of doing that. I was stuck on estee Lauder and had tunnel vision, there was no other eyeshadow , oops 😊. Once again, thank you ❤

I was waiting for this video for ever, and it turns out, I had just missed it (or it came before I subbed). I am a fan of Rom&nd. I love their products. My only issue is that their colours are mostly, if not all, on the cool colour side. I am of darker skin although probably of neutral undertone, so the colours can work, but I need more warmth to reaaally compliment. This is why I was hoping to get my hands on Rare Beauty’s lip stains. I still find Rare Beauty could have explored more in terms of colour range though.

Ok super specific request but when you do the k beauty lip video, could you make a chart comparing them all? For example x axis could be opacity and y axis could be shine. Or something like that! It’s kind hard to keep track of them all 😅

I love a stain! I’m trying to temper my excitement, because I have quite a collection of lip stains (including all the ones u mentioned 😅). I have super pale lips and when a gloss is gone I look washed out very quickly. So I almost never wear any lip products without some sort of stain under them. It will depend on the shades of the Rare Beauty if I will pick up one. Thanks for the review, I find it a bit frustrating when some reviewers don’t even realise they r using a stain. They just complain about the thinner formula.

I love lip stains but I’ll stick to the stains from K Beauty. Did you try these out on your cheeks by chance? I love using lip stains as lip and cheek stains.

I already purchased the Rare Beauty Lip Oil and I do like it. My store doesn't carry Rare Beauty in the store so I purchased mine online. I do wish I would have purchased a different color. I would love to try more K Beauty but you have to do a lot of guessing about which color to buy since swatches are few and far between.

I have very thin lips so the stain part of the "lip oils" from Rare Beauty appealed to me. I'm not trying to overline my lips, but want to give them more color that lasts. Thanks for the info!

another drugstore easy accessable lip stain is the uoma by Sharon C at Walmart lip stain tints. The nude color mixed with the more red shade is my go to for a bitten lip

From the way you described this rare beauty product, I think another alternative are the dior lip tattoo, which btw, you did a review about those ones long time ago, years ago, and that’s how I got to know your channel 😃

I also LOVE the ELF lip stains. However I feel like mine run out very quickly (like I’m missing out on product in the tube) I wiggle the wand, tap the package etc. I also rarely reapply during the day etc. Question: Do you find you go through them more quickly than other lip products? Granted they are £6 and I have no issue repurchasing but feel like mine go faster than other products I use throughout the day. Would love to know!

I have the shade Hope and I prefer the lip oil stains by Uoma by Sharon C, hope is quite streaky but I think I'd like the darker shades. Uomas are such a good consistency and so affordable! I love my k beauty stains but get impatient with shipping 😅

I love the juicy lasting tints but HATE the glasting water tints. I was super excited because the colours are so nice but they were very drying on me and accentuated my fine lip lines (no severe wrinkles or anything, I’m 21 lol)

Hmmm... maybe I do want this? My usual preference is high pigmented lip glosses/oils bc it keeps my dry lips hydrated. Stains gather in my lines and lipstick sometimes emphasize my chapped bottom lip 😅 BUT when my lips are in good condition, I dont mind drying down and I DO get annoyed reapplying my glosses/oils for color. THANK YOU FOR THE INDEPTH REVIEW, I HAVE A LOT TO THINK ON 🎉

Not to mention that the maybelline superstay vinyl ink are also similar… but obviously more pigmented.

Haus Labs by Lady Gaga also have a lip oil hybrid tint called "PHD HYBRID LIP OIL". They are not as pigmented as Selena's though. Lady gaga's feel more like a lip oil.

I agree. This are just like glossy lip stains from k beauty, these lip stains are actually made in Korea, I was kinda disappointed because I wanted an actual lip oil, not a lip stain, I compared it to my holika holika water tint and the peripera and they were almost identical. I do love it, but I def think she capitalized on the fact this kind of product isn’t so popular in the United States. I do like the product a lot, but it’s def not a plush lip oil

Totally agree with you. It's a stain, not an oil. I have the Joy shade. I really love it, though, even though it's not an oil, lol.

I have a question, I hope you or someone in the comments can help me. I know when they say lip oil they are talking about oils from the products used. But I really want an actual lip OIL. Like the consistence of vegetable oil lol. It sounds so weird I’m sure but in 2019 truly had a limited edition collab with erika costell called gloat (greatest lips of all time) that came in a small red clutch. It came with 4 products: lip butter, lip scrub, plumping serum, and lip oil. They are all peppermint scent/ flavor. But the lip oil in this collection is literally like veg oil consistency. It was the first lip oil I ever had so it is what I got used to. Then when lip oils got huge and I got more, none of them are anything like this, they are all more just a lip gloss that isn’t sticky. That’s great and I love them but I’d love to find more lip oils that’s like this truly one. It comes with a dropper instead of a wand and it’s completely clear. Id love to find some similar to this but that have color to them like maybe water tints do, and with a wand instead of the dropper. I guess they did well bc they’re still sold just not limited edition so I grabbed another one. Has anyone used this? If so, does anyone know of another product that’s similar? Sorry for the novel I wrote I’ve just been looking for so long & haven’t had any luck on my own lol

I'm looking for something that leaves a nice stain or stays put to wear for wedddings. I'd love to hear your kbeauty & weatern recommendations. Tbh I'm confused by all the terms like lip oil, glasting tint, water tint, dewy tint. I want at least one that is maskproof as well to wear in the winter during flu season. I've heard etude fixing tint is good for that?

ive been wanting to try the rom&nd water tint but ive been hesitant since alot of korean lip colors look bad against my darker skin tone, im hoping the rare beauty ones will suit my skin tone a little better!
