Rare Daylight Run to Jackson on the Jackson & Lansing Railroad 12-17-22 

On the first day of my Christmas break, myself and a handful of others got a rare opportunity to chase the Jackson & Lansing Railroad from Mason to Jackson, Michigan in daylight. Normally this move only happens overnight, when Norfolk Southern and Amtrak aren’t running any trains. However, due to a derailment preventing southward movements earlier in the week, the JAIL was granted special permission from NS to enter Jackson during the day on Saturday. The train left Mason around 9 AM with 26 empties, and arrived in Jackson 2 hours later. After waiting for Amtrak 353, JAIL entered Jackson Yard, where Michigan Central’s former shop complex stands. Once 28 loaded cars were picked up, our train continued home, returning to Mason around 3:30 PM. Overall, the chase was successful. I got unique shots that I’ve always wanted to get and, most importantly, had fun with those in company. Thanks again for watching!
