Hi, my name is Casey, and I’m here to bring railroad related videos to you. My channel features content primarily from Michigan, but occasionally from other states as well. I plan on keeping this channel ad free. I’m always on the lookout for interesting stuff, and if you have any suggestions, let me know! Thank you for watching and enjoy!
It's a shame all this equipment is just sitting and rotting now. Once Mr. Stenger passed away the family had little interest continuing the operation. They should have at least tried to sell off the equipment to any interested party. At the very least they should stored the equipment indoors for protection. Doubtful any of it is restorable after several Michigan winters.
It's a shame that it was closed down, but the man who owned it was a truck driver, and he and his family couldn't give it the full attention it needed. He was talking about reopening it, but I don't think that it'll happen!😔
Unpopular opinion, but im not a big fan of this whistle in general especially not on 1225. I honestly think the lima 5 chime on sierra #3’s would fit so much better obviously cause the PE but also cause its just such a cool sounding whistle. Even the CNR 5 chime 1225 used back in like 2008 fit so well. Those 2 were probably my favorites 1225 has used but even 611’s sounded decent on it. Dont know exactly what it is i dont like about its current 6 chime it just sounds too high pitched and cracked.
Sierra 3 had a 5 Chime from the Lima Locomotive Works (Coincidentally the builder of 1225 itself) so presumably you'd just have to find one of those that was in good shape. Or alternatively, you could fit a Denver and Rio Grande Western or Southern Pacific 5 Chime since those whistles sound close enough to a Lima 5 Chime that they could work Or even further alternatively, you could use a CP 5 Chime, since the shot with the wolves in the movie used that whistle recorded off South Simcoe Railway 136.
Thanks Stuart! It was gifted to a volunteer from CSX and after it sat on his property for a while, he decided to bring it to the SRI for restoration. They did a great job!
The Pole Ex is back and better than ever and for fun they should put a Lima Shay 5 chime on her like Sierra 3 and I'm sure we all know where this is going.
Awesome example of American engineering, how could it not be the perfect engine to have the Polar Express modeled after? I love the smell of coal in the air. 💯
She sure is a beaut. The Polar Express is back and is looking better than ever! Like wow, it looks brand new with the gloss finish even though it’s eighty two years old. The 1225 will always be my favorite train to ever exist on the earth because it made my childhood because of the book and the movie. It makes me so happy to see that it’s still running. It’s such a beautiful train ❤
