It's just a camera

That's like a growl, and snow leopards can't roar, even if they wanted to. Roaring is a long-range form of communication, used to mark territory. You can clearly see that he/she's just mad at the camera here.

Quite like a tiger's snarl or growl, but higher pitched.

They are “big cats” but don’t have elastic vocal cords so they can’t project a deep loud roar like lions

Genuinely didn't think they could roar Whenever I would search it would always be like "no they cannot, there vocal tubes aren't built that way they make a sound called chuffing"

We will! ;-) many researchers and conservationist are working on it and results we obtained are quite good! Surely some threat is increasing (the number of livestock) but also awareness and involvement of local people is improving!

@@troytrot770 Felidae is a family that encompasses all felines, and that includes animals ranging from tigers to even domestic cats. What you are trying to refer to is the subfamily felinae that encompasses “small” cats like cheetahs and lynxes.

@@emz-ea7235 no, lynx. You can hear audio of different cats on you tube. They have lynx audio as well and I was really surprised as to how close they can get to roaring. It's not a true roar but it's scary nonetheless I posted the link in one of the comments above. The lynx is at the end. It's the second sound in the lynx section

hello I am the director of Wildlife Initiative, in charge of this research and conservation project. I got photographic captures of hundreds snow leopards and the problem is the noise produced by PIR. it depends by individuals and situations. This one was really bothered by camera. Other are curious and start smelling the cameras. Others just do not care. However we have proved (by math) snow leopard in our working area come back more frequently to the camera trap site, after their first visit. It is likely because we put cameras mainly on marking sites. However, it shows their behaviour is not affected negatively by cameras

@@tedsemonis7905 They can absolutely pick up some IR light. Its debatable if it is affecting them negatively tho, but they do see the light.

They roar they just sound like a really big house cat and its because they lack a fatty tissue on their throats that helps make that booming bellowing sound

@@acefreak9561 No house cat make that noise. That is a legitimate panthera roar.

We may have just made a new discovery nvm I think now its just growling
