ERNIE ANDERSON AS GHOULARDI CLEVELAND LEGENDARY HORROR HOST OF THE 1960'S....READING A STORY A FAN SENT IN....ALSO HAVEING FUN WITH FIRECRACKER AND HIS PHONE.....RARE FULL CLIP...
How I miss his shows on the weekend. It was the highlight of our lives at the time. After the football game, we'd break our necks to get home to watch him at 11 p.m. He was on till 1 a.m. if memory serves me right. He was one of the greats.
I sent him a little 'boom - boom' which he aired on his Saturday afternoon show (movie was attack of the 50 Foot Woman). It was called a "Knif-a-sizer" ... Got three "burglar trap" pull string firecrackers. I got an empty TP roll, painted it black and put 'Knif-i-sizer' in white paint on 2 sides. Tied the burglar trap fireworks to a couple of wooden dowels which I painted blac as well. The tube covered up the burglar traps, and it looked like one of those exercise things you pull apart to build up your arms. Ghoulardi introduced it, and had the camera zoom in on it as he grabbed both of the dowel pulls. When he pulled it, the 3 burglar traps exploded and blew the TP tube apart. It was louder than I (or he) expected, and he did his famous "Cool it with the boom-booms" gig. Still remember that from well over 50 years ago.
I wish I could watch all of these shows again! Ernie Anderson would put a buzz on in the bar and walk up to the studio and cut loose, smoke cigarettes, play oddball rock 'n' roll, blow up model cars! Ghoulardi was a local icon and there are still anual Ghoulardi fests in Cleveland.
he ran his honda bike in the hallways ,blow up a big fire works = a big fire , on the air .years after the almost cuba atomic war thing . his ''cool it with the boom booms '' made my life way easier
I missed only one show. I had to go to Georgia to visit my aunt/uncle and cousins. I even sent in a Cool-It box to blow up. I never saw it. I was a sad dude back in those days. 😂
My sister & I had Ghoulardi sweatshirts..."Stay Sick & Turn Blue" & "Cool It". One of my favorite memories is family lunches at Manners Big Boy on Sundays after church & getting to order Ghoulardi milkshakes. They were huge!! Of course, we were little, too.
Ghoulardi's fans sent him a lot of stuff, including things like this which he could read to his viewers. I wish I could have seen the poem he read in December,1963:"The Night Before Ghoulsday."I do remember it ended;"I heard him say as he drove out of view/Happy Ghoulsday to all and to all a Turn Blue."
CLEVELAND OHIO late night TV.... 1960's vintage... THIS IS CLASSIC! ..... I was that PRIVILEGED to have watched these? And now they're ONLINE! FUNNY FUNNY STUFF.... 50 YEARS LATER!
I actually grew up in PARMA and I can remember going to the local Bob's Big Boy on Pearl Road and getting a Purple Knif Milk Shake. Long Live the King!
Probably one of the biggest coincidences that ever happened in my life is that one of my favorite djs ever (next to Mad Daddy Pete Myers) is the father of one of my favorite film directors ever.
I was born a solid 20 years too late to experience this at the time but I can absolutely tell I would have loved it. Anything actually different from what you see the rest of the day is a welcome respite
Hey Ramone! I remember Giant Tiger stores too. I used to watch his show too and even my dad got a kick out of him. He and Mad Daddy were my Cleveland favorites.
Love the creepy head with Desert Rat starting off (with the bow being pulled over a bass fiddle). "Group...this movie is so bad, you should go to bed!" - Ghoulardi "Group...it's going to be a good night...so cool it!" -- Ghoulardi. Ghoulardi was an interesting amalgam of The Beats, Ernie Kovacs and Jackie Mason (Ghoulardi's voice). Then, there was the echo effect. I'm devoting an entire chapter to Ghoulardi in my North Coast Memoirs. Stay sick out there - W from Cleveland, OH.
