I honestly think this can be a good change, your points also make sense. They also said that there are other things that would be removed as well than the things on the list. But reputation and money value should be lowered. But it is not even out yet so maybe it can have a different affect instead too.

To be fair, I just started playing, and getting all the loot, then getting it stolen by people you know you could win, after you understand pvp mechanics....is annoying -.- Having some time to build up would be great. But also there are only 16 players per server. People have played for years. I played 3 days and got 2 out of the 3 boats. Stuff has changed in the game, where gold is insanely easy to get

I do like the idea for the safer seas for those moments where, you don’t want loot, you don’t want to fight, you just want to chill and do some tall tales with your friends Im not a good pvp player and I will always play on the high seas. PvE addition is truly a blessing. Very few people are still in the mood to deal with toxic crews or cheaters. Since Rare seems not in the mood to address this issues, PvE seems a cool choice. To be honest, I like the fact that they are adding Safer Seas, though instead of removing the emissary I wish they would just increase the amount rate of NPC’S spawning, like more skeleton ship encounters, more megs, more ocean crawlers, etc. Though there is one thing we are all forgetting: *The Ancient Coins Skeleton,* you won’t be able to spawn that, right? 👀

What I’m worried about is that more casual players will move to safer seas, which means that only the very skilled players are left in high seas, which means that nobody newly starting or coming from safer seas will be able to actually get good at pvp, and will just end up being killed in every fight because there’s no other new players for them to match up with. Edit: I’m saying that a lot more players will quit to getting destroyed in pvp because now instead of a everyone being in high seas it’s a slow trickle from safer seas so the average skill of high seas will become higher, which will make even new players that want to learn pvp or players who might do pvp still quit

I look at this as an improvement to my PvP experience too. Grinding HG has become a pain, and sailing around in adventure rarely gives me a PvP challenge. As a galleon, we maybe encounter a crew worth their salt every 15 hours of gameplay. I get tired of sinking people who have barely learned to defend themselves, so now anyone I see in high seas is someone with at least confidence! EDIT: This announcement also introduced us to a new style of PvP voyage/world event hybrid with interesting dynamics to how to complete it, but "They're removing PvP?" Come on Blurbs.

here's the thing, I love pvp and all the risk with it, I love the rush of the fight, the transition from peaceful journey to daring adventure but not everyone does, why? because their loot but most of all, assholes, the amount of people who would waste time just to keep killing you without sinking or sailing just to find you and do it all over again is a pretty big thing, not only that most of the time they're toxic, it's not like a game of league in which you can mute them and just wait out the game before having to (most likely) never see them again, you're kind of stuck with them until you decide to server hop or disconnect from the game, and that's pretty demoralizing, in fact when I first started sot this happened to me, the only reason I never fully hated pvp was because I learned that despite losing, I can try and make their life miserable by causing inconveniences (stealing important loot, throwing away their loot, sailing their ship away etc) but most people don't really have a coping mechanism like that thus rather than enduring loss after loss, they'd rather just call for a pve server because they just don't have the energy to sit through and learn while probably getting berated

I respect all opinions on Safer Seas and I see both sides. I just wanted to get this off my chest though. I have a disability that affects my hand eye coordination so I’ve always enjoyed PVP in SOT but gotten overwhelmed quicker. Now I can see the perspective of the other side. I plan on playing High Seas when I want to level up and fighting back against other crews is part of that grind. But I have a limit, if you fill a ballon with water for too long it will eventually pop. So when I need to calm down, just immerse myself I’ll be spending a few hours in Safer Seas. Having that available to me will probably give me a higher tolerance for getting sunk. So I’ll be able to play keep coming back to fight with other crews more. I’m in full agreement that there needs to be something for hardcore players. Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy the PVP, it’s just my disability makes it hard to process multiple thoughts such as ship repair, cannons, keeping them off my ship etc. However I love the game, so you see the position I’m in?

Some of my friends really hate PvP. We were doing the Pirates of the Caribbean tall tales, but they never completed them. They just stopped playing after being sunk by other players. Now that PvE mode is being introduced, they might pick up where we left off. That means that Rare just got back some playing customers that spend time inside the game and gain some love for the game. My friends might eventually switch to the PvPvE mode when they feel that they've done all the game has to offer in PvE, but still want more from the game. I think Rare is right, their game has grown and offers so much that they can release a demo-mode in the form of Safer Seas.

@@drsgonborn and the problem with "this game is not for you" is that there's literally not another game like this but for PVE people. Lot of people who want a pirate themed exploration sandbox are stuck with a group of 99% young males who want to use it as their pirate themed FPS lobby. Both valid ways to play the game, but way less toxic if you have a way to separate the two groups. People always recommend AC: Black Flag (great game but nothing like SoT) or monkey island (game is ancient at this point and again shares nothing with SoT other than being a pirate game), as if those are valid competitors to this. I enjoy the pvp sometimes, but if I'm playing alone, I find the constant "head-on-a-swivel" awareness exhausting after my very active workday. Sometimes, all I want to do is toss a line in the water and enjoy the beauty of the seas. Too many of the sweats will go after the solo player just because it's an easy kill. It's not a fear of losing my loot (although losing those rare or hard-to-acquire fish suuuucks when I can only keep a few in my inventory); it's the toxicity of so many of those sweats. They're not content to just sink the ship and go away. They're bored little brats who feel powerful when they can camp on your ship and kill you over and over again, taunting and mocking, ensuring that you can't recover any of the things you've worked for, and that they don't even want. If it truly was a matter of battle, win or lose, and then move on, that'd be fine. But so often, as a solo player, that's NOT been my experience. I've been killed when I was a on a rowboat, with no loot on board, clearly just fishing, for sport, more times than I can count. If I can go catch a fish with only world dangers to manage? I'm doing it. Sorry if that means the sweats lose their chew toys.

There is a lot to say and argue about this change, but it is a totally 100% positive change. The players who don't think so are the toxic players that make it so no one wants to play this game in the first place. Complaining about not having easy targets is just as bad as hacking or cheating. Some people want to play the PvE content and have fun, and not be harassed by toxic players. Compare any other very successful titles out there, they all have different modes or ways to avoid negative interaction with a toxic player.

I like the change for two main points: 1. The people who permanently switch to Safer Seas will, I hope, be the type of people who run and don't/can't put up a fight, so there's no sport in the PvP anyhow. (No doubt many running reapers and such will stay on the high seas for the gold and still run) 2. I think it will work great as a tutorial and way for players to get their feet wet. If they hunger for PvP and gold, they'll switch over and get it. If they don't, then they probably fall into category 1 anyway.

I was introducing my friend to the game last week and just sunk repeatedly for 3 hours straight and managed to sell zero loot. I get that this is just how the game is sometimes and I'm not hating because of it. BUT... Not everyone has time to play and get good enough to compete with these 3000+ hour competitive players. Some prefer to just play casually for a couple hours on the weekend without getting dogged by a crew of greasy 12-year-olds. I think this may be one of the better things SOT has done since launch. One of the main reasons why I couldn't get into SOT was because it lacks any real sense of choice, you either play it their way or not. To a PVPer that's fine. You guys have the thrill of the chase, the anticipation of the the next battle and the intensity of the duel and you learn to play by trial and error. But to a large enough group of players, this just isn't fun. Lazer Pig's video explaining how the community turning into a toxic shoot first ask questions never perfectly illustrates why this game struggles in player retention so much in comparison to Rust. Rust has always gives players the option to play how they want. you wanna do the Blooprint or Weyln and PVP like mad buggers, brilliant. But they you also can play PVE servers, training servers, Role playing servers, Modded servers with unique gameplay, Servers made especially for events. Rust has always made choice a factor and it thrives because of it.

Honestly, this may be a good thing in the long run as MANY things are limited on PvE and gives a chance for newer or less experienced players to learn the ropes first. For those that only want PvE then let them play PvE. It won't have any effect on the High Seas mode IMO because MANY MANY MANY players QUIT ENTIRELY after experiencing much of the hardships on PvP without knowing how to play the game. I even offered to teach them the ropes but with constant interruptions and massive bad luck (even helping my friends WIN PvP matches and teaching them that using the environments and events to their advantage like skellie ships and other aspects is a good tactic), they haven't had the chance to explore, go about the lore, see certain details of the game, or go at their own pace. This PvE mode is a way to ease in new players, and it will bring in more players in general to support the game. Those worried that the PvP/High Seas will be more empty than ever I feel are worrying over nothing. It WILL not feel empty due to some of the more exciting events being a part of High Seas, Guilds and Captained Ships will remain behind High Seas only, and those who want to eventually move on to PvP WILL DO SO! Those who only wanted the PvE parts of the game were never going to stick around and will (AND HAVE) eventually quit the game. Mentioning this to my friends who DID quit because of such now want to give the game another chance seeing they can now be eased in to the game itself. Give this a chance first come December as I feel this will gradually increase the number of players who can learn the game and want a challenge later after knowing how to manage and explore first. If they move onto High Seas then great! If they play only PvE and or quit after getting bored of it then they were never going to change the numbers anyways. We shall soon see.

I keep hearing people saying that safer seas should have a lower level cap, and I just don't see how that would help or change anything, except for the worse. As mentioned in the video, there are players who just want to PvE, who don't care about PvP, don't care about pirate legend, don't care about cosmetics. To those players, whatever the level cap in Safer Seas is going to be is going to be the end game to them. The lower the level cap, the sooner they'll have "competed it" and leave the game. Frankly, the only difference is that they're going to "complete" the game without any sort of satisfying ending since they won't get to make pirate legend and have a sort of ending, they'll just find the game sorts of... ends. To my mind, the thing that keeps dragging people out of SoT that I hear quite often is that its disrespectful of player's time. You can't start a session and know when its going to end or, more to the point, when you're going to start having fun. The unpredictability of PvP turns that dial up significantly, you never know when you're going to meet someone so you can't comfortably judge your session. If you live a life where you need to limit playtime to set blocks most of the time, the high seas version of SoT just means that often you're going to opt for something with a more controllable and reliable fun return for your time investment. With Safer Seas I see more of an option for people who have half an hour or an hour sessions most of the time to keep touching base with the game, keeping it in their play rotation, knowing that they can reliably get what they want to done in that time, and then when they can afford an open ended play session, going to high seas and having the full flavour experience. Its the problem that I feel hourglass was shooting to solve, but queue times being so unpredictable really cut into that. I think that without the ability to do things like save or fast travel it'll never be 100% on that front, but this feels like a big move towards allowing more casual players to curate their experience.

I dont think this will hurt the game long-term like you're saying. My friends and I enjoy the high seas and being in the mix, but after two or three sessions of regularly fighting off other crews, we'd like a night of just chilling on the boat, having a laugh, and relaxing. At the same time, I can finally bring my wife who's not good at PvP into this and let her experience this world that I've put so much time into, and understand why I love it so much. You said it in your previous videos. Twitch views are down. Concurrent players are down. Something has to change, and this will bring a lot of life, and subsequently, money back into the game. Long-term I think this will be good for the game, good for the community, and better for Rare's bottom line.

I haven't played in a while and don't know how it is now, but I refuse to have my time and energy hinge on bullshit RNG. If I'm gonna hit my shots, they better actually count. What's the point if you are only sometimes rewarded for playing better, or quite literally punished? You may choose to shoot, but due to hitreg, you die to a sword. That is being punished for choosing and pulling off a higher skill mechanic. That's why I loved arena: no stakes- only fighting. You can keep trying and trying and won't lose hours of progress due to a single shot not counting. You die and go again right away! No big deal.

Pretty much this. I used to be one of those players that wanted PvE only, but have changed my mindset. A lot of those players that will be in that mode aren’t playing the game at all now because of the PvP. This not only gives a place for those people, but makes adventure mode more focused, gives options to people for playing the game in different ways, and will likely encourage at least some of them to move over for more rewards and the thrill of combat. Where’s the fun in sinking someone who’s brand new and/or doesn’t want to fight anyway? I don’t think this is going to split the playerbase so much as it will just add onto it. Yes, some players absolutely will go to that mode and never look back. But I think it’s always better to have options to play the game as you want to, just as a general game design principle. The restrictions are enough to ensure adventure mode doesn’t just become a PvP onslaught. I have played both SoT and League of Legends. Some people in League play bots even when they can play Norms against real players. Some people never play the normal "Summoner's Rift" map because they don't like the core of how it is played. They play ARAM 95% of the time, Bots 3% of the time and Norms 2% while never touching Ranked. ARAM being "All Random All Mid" and on a separate map from SR. It is a bridge, One lane, to just duke it out and throw abilities at people until you lose. It is far from the core concept of the game where you have Objectives, a Jungle to navigate, and a Multitude of Tactics. That being said, I never play Ranked Solo/Duo, I occasionally play Bots, I periodically play ARAM, I consistently play Norms, but i MOSTLY play Ranked Flex with friends. I will definitely play Safer Seas with some friends who have dropped the game for PvP and it will be a blast! I will also play the standard High Seas with a few other friends who are into the actual game of Sea of Thieves XD Edit. Lastly, If I were able to stitch together my friend group into one entity, I estimate that Rare will get an extra 200 hours of gameplay and $80-$100 from them. I can have a preference to not get spawn killed do to a skill gap I can never close, or cheated on reputedly until I close the game anyways. I bought SOT on launch and got bullied off the game by players that are just toxic. SO many games have BOTH PVP AND PVE, because some people are casual gamers and not sweaty gamers! I loved to play SOT with my friends, fighting ghost ships and doing hard quests, until an enemy player cheats or some how is able to spawn kill all of us until our ship sinks. All while screaming at us on mic to just get good and just get better at the game. I have 7k hours clocked into ark survival evolved, on both PVP AND PVE. because sometimes you want to chill with your friends not go into one of the best multiplayer games, only to get bullied right off it. I know for a fact EIGHT, literally EIGHT people on my friends list stopped playing SOT forever because the PVP was too much. So the PVE aspect is a great idea, considering it will have players staying on the game rather than leaving it and considering that for three years straight the poles for adding PVE were over 60% percent and the devs still said FU to more than HALF the player base.

It’s because High Seas is filled with murderhobos that will target new/younger players and basically ruin their experience and make the game tedious. Don’t be angry that Rare are killing the shared world, they’re simply putting a barrier between new players and the sharks that prey on their inexperience. PvE servers don’t kill shared worlds, Elite Dangerous is a perfect example and that game doesn’t put any restrictions on PvE players. Rare is finally listening to the silent majority, the people who would play the game if the toxic gatekeeping community didn’t insist on throwing them into the deep-end as their first experience of the game.

I think calling it "PVE'ers" and "PVP'ers" is for more divisive for the community than anything Rare has done. I also think people are MASSIVELY blowing this out of proportion, the game is already on a decline in terms of player numbers. GTA V; Open-world PVP game, had private servers for PVE. WoW; Had PVP and PVE realms respectively. Minecraft; Option to turn PVP off entirely on your own server/world. DayZ; Had PVE building servers despite being open-world PVP. Call of Duty; Had Zombies and Story mode which some people literally only bought the game for despite it being a "PVP game". ARK Survival Evolved; Tons of PVE servers and even RP servers. Rust; Had RP PVE servers and building servers despite being massively marketed for PVP. I could go on and on but the gaming industry has set a very obvious and clear example that PVE does NOT kill games, it's frankly insane how much this has been fearmongered and dramatized. Every one of the above games DOES NOT cap progress on their PVE modes / servers and not a single one of them suffered from it, in fact it BOOSTED player numbers as the casual player market and PVE player market flooded to those games. I will re-iterate; Making a war out of "PVE vs PVP" is silly, non-sensical and damages the community far more than what Rare did in this update.

The one thing i personaly would like to see, is Max Two Ships instead of a Solo Ship, with PvP being the purpose. This way if a veteran player invites a friend to try the game out and likes it, they can practice fighting each other in a safe space & learn the basics. if safer sea's is all about allowing players to get an idea of what sot is, then PvP should be included since its a massive core element of the game. Yes you can cannon ghost & skeleton ships, but... Skeletons & ghosts don't manage their ship like players. Skeletons & ghosts don't board your ship. I fear that when/if new players leave safer sea's and join the high sea's with no PvP experience, they get sunk and go back to safer sea's or quit the game entirely. Or like the video mentioned, they wil get bored of doing PvE and quit because they refuse to go on the high sea's.

The only thing wrong with this is that it's private, there should ALSO be a public PVE option if enabled. Everything else is great for the franchise so it doesn't die. However not sure why pirate captin "naming" your ship isn't a thing, seems off, should be included. The thing is SOT has 2 player bases, making both happy is doable so they should. Fanboys and purests need to chill, without money PVP and PVE will die. I think it's great, people can enjoy the story and lore without toxic interference. And kids can play without trolls screaming racist sexual remarks at children. Let's be honest here, in online gaming now not some but unfortunately MOST people are toxic, it's good to have a way for people to enjoy a game without subjecting themselves or their children to that kind of harassment or bullying as SOT literally encourages toxicity and bullying not just in gameplay but also in rewards. Not many people can have hours of their time thrown in the trash either, some people have jobs and lives and will simply uninstall if their time is continually wasted. I think it's a great first step in the right direction, and I have played thousands of hours in both pvp and pve "alliance" servers. They are both great but I will say way more cool encounters and lifetime friendships made in pve. People literally pay monthly to alliance servers, SOE is finally dropped their purists crap and done what's right for the longevity of the game. Good on them for once lol.

I feel like you're working off of a very false assumption: people are sheep that aren't self-aware enough to see the broad picture of what's around them. "Oh, there's Safer Seas mode. I'll just play that and not realize I am missing out on social encounters and be completely helpless when joining the High Seas." People know what's going on. This is not some choice to permanently play one or the other forever. You can just switch depending on how you feel. This is not literally breaking the player-base in half. For the common player, Safer Seas will be an alternative they can use for certain things, if they feel like it, and will still view High Seas as the standard mode. What will happen is: - Folks who are very VERY against PvP, will exclusively play Safer Seas. Good riddance, they are no fun and no good in a PvP fight anyway. - The other pole of the spectrum will continue to only play High Seas and won't ever touch Safer Seas. Great, nothing changes for them beyond the really annoying and vocal runners migrating. - The players in the middle will use it as intended. An alternate option for specific scenarios, Tall Tales, low energy days, teaching new players, etc. Fantastic, these experiences will be better for them now. - New players will potentially start on Safer Seas but they will, one way or the other, be made aware of the experience High Seas provides. At their own pace, they will test out High Seas and learn. A learning curve MUCH nicer than learning the base level mechanics of the game, whilst being fully vulnerable to threats you can only handle with higher knowledge. This is all good for the game. Much like the Hourglasses, this is just another way to tailor the experience of Sea of Thieves for you personally. You can now mix in Safer Seas for the times where that enhances the game, and people will be happier because of it.

Lets be real. The loudest (but to be fair not all) of the anti pve people are the ones preying on new/casual players, using cheats, and generally play in a toxic manner, angry at the realisation that thier gravy boats being taken away. If the vast majority of people migrate to pve, leaving a minority of very toxic, sweaty, kill on sight pvp players(and even smaller minority of pvp players that dont play like tryhards and are actually sporting, honorable players), as all signs seem to indicate as the biggest concern,to me thats undeniable objective evidence that the worst kinds of players have been in control of the larger SoT experience for too long and are upset that thats changing in a big way. Those toxic experiences with those kinds of players created the demand for pve in the first place, and Rare reversing thier no pve stance is all the proof you need that even THEY have seen and understand this. Its a simple case of a small group of malicious people ruining things for everyone else. Giving people who truly want to like this game but cant due to all the grief these players heap on them an out couldnt be argued against by reasonable people. But lets all be honest here- the extremely anti pve doomer "the sky is falling" crowd are hardly reasonable... Or just trying to do achievements. Blurbs mentions how you get less friendly crews this way. Well yea cause players who are nice get dunked on and get told it's their fault for playing the game in the first place, cause it's sea of THIEVES not friends. Considering that this person might not have even touched sea of thieves without this new addition, that's only a net positive. The more people buy the game, the more that stick around to buy pirate emporium sets (mostly inspired by cross over tall tales which they can now enjoy risk-free), the more money is in Rare's pocket, and the more budget they have to produce high quality updates for the rest of us. Even if what you said is all true, that they might never engage in the multiplayer, good business for rare hopefully means a good future for the game as a whole.

I thought about it too... but kinda came up to the conclusion that people using safer seas will most likely never play in higher seas

Bruh this isn’t the military. Some people just wanna play the game and don’t really care about being the best at it

The same people would probably quit at the first sign of PVP at the games current state.@@sambeast13

I mean, I have met many, many new players, and they don't even wrap their heads around basic things like how to use cannons properly, how to simply sail the boat properly, etc. idk if you are aware the level of incompetency many new players have. Putting them in a PvP situation and they won't learn anything they'll get beat so badly and quickly.

@@ryandickson2224 the reason your loot has value is because there’s a chance you can loose it. The game has been out for 5 years and people have been hitting pirate league without an easy mode. It’s not about because the best. It’s a miss conception though. LETS PLAY A PIRATE GAME WITHOUT THE THREAT OF OTHER PEOPLE BEING PIRATES.

As someone who will never play Safer Seas because I love the chaos of random crews dropping in on my activities, I dont understand why anyone is upset about this update.

actually what i think they should've done is make a brutal sea, extreme difficulty with High rewards, the point is to attract highly skilled players away from noobs, i want to play sea of thieves to steal from someone who's been grinding for hours. i dont want to do any PVE i just want to kill and steal.

As much as PvE servers are cringe I think that PvP players dramatically overestimate just how many players are PvP inclined. PvE isn't a "subset" of players it's the bulk of players. There's a reason that Arena and hourglass fell to the way side, no matter how vocal the tiny minority of PvP'ers is they can't even keep enough numbers to keep the most basic PvP features populated.
