Filmed in Norway, 1990, Robert talks about touring, his past musical life and his newest album, 'Manic Nirvana'.
It is cut into various parts to keep the music out as much as possible to avoid it being blocked by RU-vid copyright claims.

It’s so weird to think that in 1990, 20 years ago was 1970. It’s 2024 now and 20 years ago was 2004. To me, that only feels like 10 years max. I’m only 32 and I’m starting to realise how fast time goes. It’s actually incredible when you listen to all Zeppelins albums that they pretty much achieved that level and quality of music all before they turned 30!

I think about all of these things way too much haha. I'm a 90s baby, too, and it's wild when I think "less than 30 years before I was born, all of my heroes were not only still alive, but in the prime of their lives, creating the history we know today." I don't know if we as humans can ever really fathom how fast time goes, and how short our lives are.

During my time as a weirdly obsessed Zep fan I've researched so so much about these 4 guys, to a level that I foolishly feel as if I know them personally, but looking at post Zep Robert in the 80's-90's era who I know basically nothing about makes me feel like this is someone else, that talks like Robert and looks older with funnier yet still somehow glorious hair... What a rush
@Michael69
@Michael69 3 года назад
Haha I am still convinced he had people working on his hair to keep it so magnificent! No one keeps hair like that for decades without doing anything to it. I also feel like Zep are my friends. Listening to the music is always like coming home

Any musician worth their salt will mature and grow. I love Plants solo ventures. Some great songs and style. You grow up and the topic and attitude changes and from young hormone charged excess. The whole band are intelligent guys. They’re brilliant compositions and performances. They were titans. They’re reference point for all others who have come after ....but never reached the standard that Zep set. Or Pink Floyd or Rush. Path makers.

Robert Plant grew a lot as a person and musician in the 80’s. He made some very deliberate choices that aren’t made lightly, when it comes to being a musician, especially a solo act. He didn’t tour at all in support of his first solo album, Pictures At Eleven. Which is interesting and says a lot about where his focus was, it wasn’t on just taking it all out on the road like Led Zeppelin had never happened, it was about truly starting over to a degree and focusing on the music. He wanted to build something of his own, not become a novelty who had to count on Zeppelin songs to carry his setlist. Hence why his sophomore record came so soon after. People can like/dislike Plant’s solo work as they please, but when I listen to that material, I hear someone searching for a way forward (and being quite successful as well).

That’s a great comment. I too have had an obsessive interest in the four blokes. I did keep up with Percy’s career . I have seen all but one of his post Zeppelin tours and the progression has been wonderful to see. Awesome Talent . By all accounts. Awesome human being.

Saw him a couple of weeks ago and so much more to come this year. Should have asked "do you think you will be doing this in 34 years time?".

It's interesting that here he thinks 10 years (since the end of LZ days) is a long time ago, and now it's 41 years ago. How must that feel?

I imagine it feels normal for the most part but when more thought is put into it, it can be a rather daunting hallucination.

Robert keeps saying hes moving forward yet half his shows are zeppelin numbers scaled down to mush
@Kerunou
@Kerunou 2 года назад
That’s a laugh. Yeah, he built an entire solo catalogue so he didn’t have to just play Zeppelin numbers, but he’s not moving forward. Sure. You don’t like the music, you don’t like the music. But please, join us here on planet earth, sometime.

The funny thing is that he has A LOT of great solo songs... songs that he could update. It blows my mind that he never thought to redo his Shaken n Stirred record with the modern, gritty electronica he introduced into his early 2000s shows , or capitalize on the heavy african influenced rock he did on Mighty Rearranger. I love Plant, and his voice is still so distinctive and strong, but what the fuck is going on with the the Zep reimaginings and covers. He can do what he wants, he's earned that, but I'd like him to push forward and try something new again. It feels like after 2017, things kinda got repetitive.

He knows how to talk for sure. Consumate salesman. All told, I don't think he ever gave full credit to how Phil Johnstone brought him back from pop anonymity in 1987. Not that he needs to give credit . Not that he needed the money or adulation. But Phil was a hell of a song writer and arranger. Just saying. Heaven Knows.
