It's wonderful - remember seeing it on TV. I also saw this production and met her after the show - the final show. She was warm, kind, and gracious - signed autographs, hugged, kissed, talked - down to earth. I'm sorry the unions can't all agree so that more of these original stage productions can be shown on TV and bought on DVDs. These are great examples to show future show biz actors, actresses, musicians, composers, lyricists, anyone interested in theater.

GENIUS CHOREOGRAPHY! Sandy was divine. We had to do this, the isolation dance break at the auditions and call backs and it was fabulous...god how I loved dancing then..it was magic and created by genius choreographers with genius stars. Now I am sad

That is talent, when it sounds and looks professional in the middle of the fucking street.

Sandy Duncan as Peter Pan reminds me a lot of Julie Andrews for some reason. I think they look a lot alike. As for the part of Peter, I've been watching the various productions of the play here on youtube, and I've noticed that each of the actresses who play peter have put their own spin on the character. And, Sandy's strikes me as a naive, sweet, young Peter. Cathy Rigby's Peter was young, obnoxious, and a bit of a bully, but with good intentions deep down....

I LOVE Sandy Duncan. I had a crush on her after seeing her in this, "Pinnochio" and "The Million Dollar Duck".

She was in Roots. She played one of the most despicable characters in it. The other cast members began avoiding her. :-)

What a delight to find this video! I loved this show - saw it many times at the Pantages in LA. Sandy is so talented - wish she did more performing now. Thank you for posting this.

He did. Ron did a major overhaul before we opened in NY. Rob's work was lovely and thoughtful but the producers thought it lacked punch. One thing he cut was an underwater dance with mermaids and pirates after being thrown overboard from the the ship.

This was bretty awsome. Wasn't nearly as simple as Mary's production, but mot as difficult as cathy's. The really high energy made it work perfectly.

this was my favorite scene on stage when they were banging on the stage floor and the clapping really echoed through the theater.

I think the parades were a lot more fun in the 70s and 80s.

I remember auditioning for Rob Iscove several times for this show. He seemed to like me and always greeted me by name, never cut me but for some reason I never got the job :(. Maybe I was too Italian looking. I loved the choreography, so much fun! I think that the clapping and definitely the isolations at the end were part of the auditions...again FUN FUN FUN!!!!

My 17th Thanksgiving. Hopefully, there is more footage out there, especially Herb Alpert performing Rise.

+mkl62 this is back when the parades were way more festive. look at the crowd in front of Macys! there's like, hundreds of balloons! I also like the yellow all-cap font they used. The font hasn't been used since 1990 and the crowd stopped being that festive around 2004-05.

@jodygreeneyes There's a version of Mary Martin's original take from the 60's that they played repeatedly on NBC over the years. That's the one I remember from when I was little. :)

There is now here on youtube Sandy Duncans WHOLE Peter Pan production. :-) I LOVED this production. Theatrical Maria/Tiger Lily caused my jaw to drop (her makeup alone was stunningly dramatic) along with amzg Sandy Duncan who was no doubt the BEST Peter Pan. That feather Maria/Tiger Lily is wearing is hilariously tall. I wonder if she ever busted one with too dramatic of a head sweep. I can also only imagine the backstage clearing that had to be maneuvered for it! LOL.

Anyone know where the announcer was standing at the beginning? Was it across the street? I could see Florsheim Shoes at 2:01 when it briefly cuts to him.

GREAT video of Sandy showing more of her GREAT singing & dancing ability!! But I'll bet it was probably Cold! You should watch her appearance on "The Muppet Show" singing "a Girl Like me" in a bar setting with people in muppet type costumes on this website!!!!

I remember seeing this preview of Peter Pan from the Macy's Day Parade with Sandy Duncan when I was a kid and I even saw the show when it came to San Francisco. It was quite a thing to see Peter Pan again years later with Cathy Rigby in the same theater with my own Nephews and Niece. But I have to admit Cathy did a better job then Sandy swinging around on those dang wires!

In many ways, Sandy Duncan surpassed Mary Martin in the musical PETER PAN.Martin, of course, deserves considerable credit for creating the role in this versionof the classic, but she WAS in her mid-40s at the time. Duncan, 25 years later, wasonly in her early 30s and could REALLY portray Peter asa YOUNG. Unfortunately,Duncan was royally screwed professionally by her producers. Though her versionran four times as long as Martin's, there was no cast album or video made at theend of the run. Indeed, Duncan finally had to put her foot down and DEMANDthat the Martin cd not be sold at the souvenir kiost in the various theatersthe show played. Though he respected Martin ,Duncan knew the public had paid to see]HER VERSION OF THE SHOW. Not Martin's! Which had its OWN cast album andvideo.
