Yeah, my father was a Life Guard, my two uncles were Blues & Royals. After leaving the army, my father joined the Met Police Mounted Branch and his work horse was Imperial, the Queen's horse for Trooping the Colour for several years. One of my uncles made the army his career and ended up at a colonel in the Royal Veterinary Corps. I just served in a bog standard armoured regiment! 😁
A proud man on a fine horse. These horses are so well looked after. If you ever go there, compare the cavalry horses to the police horses. The police horses are turned out very well, but the cavalry horses look superb.
Wow! The trumpeter looked so handsome on that magnificent horse...so proud to be a Brit 😊 all the troopers and the horses just stunning. Thanks 👍 for posting.
Those horses are treated like kings. They are loved to within an inch of their lives and well taken care of. They are stunning creatures who work to protect the Monarch. I just so love them. Just do not touch them. They are doing their job and need to be admired from a distance. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@RoxanneM- Actually, the thing in their mouths is called a bit. And they often chew on the bit when they are agitated or stressed. Hence the reason to stay away and let them do their job in peace. So admire them from a distance instead of crowding them or patting.
@@christahopkinson9721 The guard will give you a very loud command that will scare you out of your skin. They talk take their job very seriously, as they should. They are a protection of our BELOVED monarchy. ❤👑
I hadn't realized how large these beautiful animals are. In dealing with the public I wonder how many times a day a guardsman thinks "A$$hole!". Then double it for the horse!
Especially when you think of the significance. It is like the Angel in the Bible, or even Donald Trump, "God's Trumpeter." (And there's why he is hated so much.)
& the amazing thing is, just like all the British Army best horses have come from Ireland, most of greatest soldiers (and its most successful generals) have as well!
@@newton18311 No! I was talking about men like Wellington, Kitchener, French, Gort, Alexander, O'Connor, Montgomery and their men in the Irish regiments of the British Army -several of which still exist to this day day!
And oddly many of the riders only started riding when they were moved from ordinary military duties (perhaps overseas) in readiness for events like this.
I have worked with many mounted units as color guard. I am surprised at how many horses are throwing their heads up! I think it’s their heavy bits bothering their mouths. Some of these dress bridles are a nuisance.
I get the feeling a lot of the people think the guards, their uniform, and actions are a joke and just there for appearance. Every action and uniform has a purpose. They would not go on a military base in US and act like that. Our white house has guards and access limitations. The kings guards are very regal deserve respect not Snickers.
I agree they deserve so much respect. For some people it’s just a tourist thing to do and maybe they don’t appreciate the significance and history of it all.
Alimar and @nita Webster I agree, they are real solders! I saw a video once where a guard was standing at his post and a tourist was making him into a joke and getting in his face and laughing at him. All of a sudden the guard punched the guy and down he went! Knocked him out cold! The guard went back to his duty and left the guy laying there until his family went to him woke him up and walked him away. I laughed so hard! It was awesome to see.
Aww wow I love the British horses...and rides. Wow wow wow I'm American and I love it God bless em all sincerely Everett Washington State USA ❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸👍❤️
Will be watching from Bradenton, Florida at 5 am our time! Kings Coronation! Can’t miss this historic event! God Save The King from friends in the USA!
The trumpeter always rides a white horse to stand out in battle. At the Trooping the Colour Ceremony in June. The trumpeter is seen galloping round the arena from the back to the front rank. I look out for him every year.
The flies are about to take that poor horse out. His bits are extremely uncomfortable which is why he is head swishing and chomping on his bit..a very good baby in rough circumstances
I’m an African-American in NY, USA….We in America love you guys❤ I requested off work next Saturday for King Charles coronation months ago… I’m sooo excited I love Britains history and I love the royal family you guys do pageantry sooo well 🎉🎉🎉
Hi Courtney. Thank you for leaving such a kind comment. Everything here in London is very exciting at the moment. We are all hoping for some good weather on May 6th. I hope you will enjoy the Coronation along with all of us. God Bless The King and God Bless The USA. 🇬🇧🇺🇸
@@thomasmchugh7086 thank you buddy can’t wait I’m actually ordering pizza and wings just for this historic occasion like I did Kate and William’s wedding 🙏🏽🙏🏽♥️♥️
Lass my Father was Scottish my Mother English. I don't call my self Anglo Scottish, Just English I might stretch to British. But that's geographical I live on the island of Britain 🇬🇧.
Hi Courtney, glad you had a chance to go to the coronation. I hope you posted videos on RU-vid. Forgive my question, as it might be obvious and I’m missing some point but why indicate your race and country of origin? Wouldn’t New Yorker be enough or even just American? Or simply, “I’m going to the coronation”? Is there a significance I’m missing? I hope you’re able to educate me. And I hope you thoroughly enjoyed your time across the pond.
I realized that this exercise was to condition the horse to crowds and rude people but I couldn’t believe there were no armed police near..One woman looked like she was going to try and pet the horse..I will be up at 3am in Scottsdale,Arizona to watch the coronation..
@@kripaharris237 well, the police around this area carry some major fire power! There are quite a few policemen (& women) on horses & on foot in this area daily. I’ll be up watching as well. 🍾🥂❤️🐎
These horses and soldiers are magnificent! I wish more people would be respectful of them when visiting. It’s not Disneyland and they’re not actors or props. They’re working horses and soldiers. And they’re magnificent!
I love everything here. It is so sad in my opinion that ignorant people want to get rid of all this beauty. The animals are cared for and treated well.
I completely agree, so many teenagers my age call this all useless and think it should all be gotten rid off but I absolutely love this part of our country
I cannot wait myself to see the carnation. It's much better than our so called presidency parade which used to mean something. Our government doesn't mean very much lately god bless your future king and queen
I'm looking forward to it too. I've got my front room window decorated with Union Flags 🇬🇧, I'm going to make myself a picnic, have a bottle or two of bubbly on ice and I'm not moving from my TV until it's over 😆 God Bless The King and Queen 👑🏴🇬🇧 I hope you Ladies enjoy watching it, all the best from Norfolk, England, United Kingdom ❤
@@moretus2270 thank you, Ty, Ty! I get so fed up with hearing our flag called ‘The Union Jack!’ it’s good to know that there are some people around who know the correct term! I really think that it’s time such things were taught in school.
No wonder Henry is going bonkers, this is awesome, I really am going to put great Britain my bucket list just to experience their wonderful culture. King Charles must remain strong, we are behind him all the way. Love from. Swaziland 🇸🇿 (a former Commonwealth country) our King will be in attendance
Don’t just go to London. Visit Arundel Castle The Duke of Norfolk lives there and is responsible organising many Royal events. Hire a car and get out into the non touristy villages with real old pubs. There is history all around . Winchester cathedral and the meadow walk to the old Saxon church etc
When you do, please get out of London and visit some of our glorious countryside and landscapes, Our beautiful small towns and villages too. We have an amazing coastline. London is only a tiny part of what the U K has to offer !
@@josephturner7569 Not a practice but part of the guard mount. The trumpeter goes into position on The Mall to await the arrival of the New Guard (Life Guards in this case), then goes back into Horse Guards Parade to call the duty officer of the Old Guard. Happens only during a so called "Long Guard" (i.e. when the monarch is in London) with the trumpeter, a standard and an officer being present as well.
Thank you for posting this video! I probably would never be able to afford a trip there so it is trough videos like this that I can see amazing events like this one! I truly appreciate you for sharing this !
People tend to forget that some of these horses are quite young, and although getting used to crowds as such, the Coronation itself is going to be a whole different ball game for them and their riders. I pray all goes smoothly and no stupid idiots decide to make loads bangs right next to them….people “could “ be badly injured or killed. Watch, enjoy and everyone please use common sense around these stunning horses, and the stamina their riders need, using just one hand on the reins and their knees to control!!! 🙏🌹
Seeing this video several days after the Coronation, I will say that it all went off just beautifully. You Brits are the best at Royal pagentry and I, as an American of British descent, love watching it all. Perhaps before I die, I will actually set foot on my ancient Homeland.
So very proud to be British. The pomp and circumstance, the pageantry, respect and admiration that we the public still have for our Armed Forces proves they are still needed and loved.
You are part of an ever dwindling minority now ! I was a child when I saw the Coronation of QE11 in 1953! Most ordinary homes did not have t.v. back then but an aunt of mine did, so the whole family descended there to watch the Coronation ! We are lucky to have lived through some of the best years, AFTER the war, although we were impacted by that for some years due to food and clothes rationing etc. did not finish until the mid fifties ! We went to schools that still taught the traditional stuff, religion, school started every day with a religious theme, we were taught to be proud of our country and celebrated all the special days, and our lessons were spared some of the ghastly stuff , transgender etc. that poor kids are subjected to now,! I believe we were a "lucky" generation. Hope you enjoy the Coronation.
I went horsebacking riding with girlfriends as a teen. Two out of the five knew how to ride horses. It doesn't look anything like on TV. The seat where I was supposed to get up seemed to be level with my head. And I was tall and overweight then, so a poor guy helped me up. (I bet he developed a hernia, seems reasonable.) Well, the three of us who did not know how to ride, our horses stopped at a nice shady spot and started eating grass. They were trail horses and one followed another, I think. We just started laughing because we didn't know any better. Well, the two smartypants that galloped off came back and asked us what was wrong. As if they didn't know. Well, horseback riding is not what it seems!
Your absolutely right! It’s like riding a 1000-2000 lb 3 year old kid with an attitude! I’ve been on many objects to mount my horse. Picnic tables, truck beds, stumps, coolers, fences, & more. And they have to move off just when I’d get my foot in the stirrup. You really have to learn their language. It’s visual, motion, movement, even a smile will transform them.
What a magnificent horse and rider, have to be so hard to sit in the pouring rain ,wearing a uniform !the rider is excellent ,great control and posture !!
Great job filming. The only tell you were there were your footsteps when following. I appreciate the polite silence that other vieographers don't observe. Well Done. 👍👏😊
The obvious pride of that soldier made me feel quite emotional and so proud to be British. I agree with another subscriber, where were the police to control these idiot tourists. The stupid giggly woman who looked as though she was going to try and touch the horse for example. Until I started watching these videos of the horse guards, I hadn't realised just how ignorant and disrespectful people can be Don't they do any research before coming to visit the UK, as I'm sure some of them think this is just another Disneyland? Thank you AJKC
As an American, I apologize for idiot tourists. We aren't alp like that. She I was in England on the late.1980s, I was so moved by the ancient buildings that were evident in not just London but the other place is business and interest took us. In London, we.stayed at the charming Goring Hotel and visited the British museum. We spent several days in an ancient hotel in Kindle and the shoe town was so friendly and welcoming. We weren't the loud obnoxious tourists at Westminster Abbey or stance Hathaway as house or the churchyard there.I hope I didn't come across like the people you mentioned..
@@Suz88 First time I watched it was at the cinema ,I have never forgotten the whole experience, the costumes the sound and colours ,it's one of my best top films to watch on a rainy day ,when I need to forget everything else.
I just commented on the exact same thing, Patricia. The last time I watched one of these videos, it was the exact same thing. Those bits must be very uncomfortable for the horses. I don’t understand it. Don’t their riders notice it? And why isn’t something done about it?
@@cak8132 the horse was getting impatient however horses often chomp on the bit. Horse looks keen to get back to his mates. Don't worry about these horses, they are very well looked after. I think they are amazing.
@@dotwillcoxson5352 They are indeed beautiful animals. Thanks for the reassuring words. Just by looking at them, I can see they’re treated very well. I was just concerned by what I had interpreted as discomfort with the bit.
I think the bits are ill fitting. I've ridden with large groups of riders in different settings in parades, trails, patrols. No one's horse throws their heads like the guard horses
Horses ears always fascinate me. I appreciate sometimes when they’re back or forward is an alert/relax thing as well as noise directional, but when each ear is snapping back and forth in completely different directions always makes me watch. Do you think the horse has independent control of each ear or is t automatic?
How wonderful to see this cornation and in color! I was too young to understand even a bit of what was happening when the late Queen was crowned. I thank God he has allowed me to witness this event even though I'm not a British citizen. PJ
@@susantunbridge4612 Is it? Someone else in the comments said they were bred in Ireland. I have no idea where they come from, but they are trained by the Household Cavalry.
I think many foreign visitors do not realise that all of the men in the fancy costumes performing pomp and ceremony, are fully trained fighting soldiers in the British Army! Different men take part from time to time, and the "old brigade" return to their duties ! In no way are they "pantomime" performers !
@@susantunbridge4612 these are not RCMP horses. Burmese, as the others, was black. Another was given to the King recently, think they're up to 9 gifted. Burmese was used as a police horse when the Queen Trooped the Colours. They are bred in Ontario these days and have bred by the Mounties since the 30s. The breed has been improved by using Hanoverians and now has some of the best examples in the country. Like the Cavalry Blacks, they are fine animals and are carefully selected.
These are CAVALRY horses, that is, WAR HORSES. Are people really so dense that they think these are PETS? Those sabers are real weapons. These are guards, that can be a formidable force for crowd control. If someone tries to start trouble, they will find that out. Those are really big, fit horses and it is a tribute to the riders that they are so well educated about their jobs.
@@dbyers3897 Have you been educated in Classical Dressage? Well I have and this is definitely not ceremonial. It is a MARTIAL ART. I went to a British Horsemaster school. You learn cavalry training of horse and rider there. The Spanish Riding School is a MILITARY unit, as is the Cadre Noir. Queen Elizabeth set up and sponsored the British Pony Club so that she would have competent horsemen and women for her household cavalry. Have you ever seen the US Park Police in action in Washington DC? I saw them in training as well as during crowd control between 1967-1983. When tourists become rioters, you will see what cavalry can do in close quarters.
@@LovinLnCottage Absolute, complete rubbish. There's no connection between the training for police horses and the military whatsoever. As for the Pony Club, it was founded in 1929 when the Queen was three - nothing whatsoever to do with the Household Cavalry.
What a stunning beautiful horse. I always dreamt of having a horse like that, that i wanted to call Freddie if it was a boy of course 😅. But we were to poor. Still i have my dreams and memories.
But t is is SO much more than that! It is our history, our very being, and they are a focus for the British people in times of trouble and war etc. They have been part and parcel of making us one of the most secure and stable countries in the world. Many dont realise, but they have NO political power. That is in the hands of our democratically elected Government, but they stand as a bridge between the people and the politicians.
I have heard figures closer to a billion on busy years like Jubilee, Coronation, weddings ect. Not just tourist spots, hotels, air lines, food services. Then all the businesses that serve those businesses and the businesses that serve the employees of those businesses. Sanitation/cleaning companies, uniform suppliers, car services and the like. The tax revenues from those alonen is quite a bit. Imagine the banks that would go under with the loss of all those companies and ppl not having money. It would be a spiraling of businesses ones you never think of as being "tourist " related.
Love the UK's military pageantry. When I was younger it was easy to be critical of Royalty but now I find it's reassuring, the Regiments with their history reinforcing the tradition of a solid Democracy.
Heck i woke at 1:30 AZ time, had coffee as i binged on the whole event from the journey of Charles and Camilla to the coronation. Kept remembering Queen Elizabeth and what a wonderful person i thought she was. She showed an ability to evolve as an individual during her reign❤
None of these fellows, in their historic/ ceremonial dress, are there for tourists or " looks". These are fully trained, military personnel😊Theuy take their role seriously & so should everyone else.
They have all fairly new and young horses this year so need lots of training. Bits are probably parade bits and not as comfortable as everyday. Maybe so, maybe no. But, they gave the info about young horses a couple of weeks ago.
