Detailed walk around of this 1970 Chevelle SS454 LS6 that went through the Special Paint program to receive the ultra rare Tri Centennial Gold exterior. It is currently the only known documented SS454 LS6 M22 example to receive this special color. This car has undergone a very meticulous painstaking concourse restoration by top notch restorer Chris White of Concours Concepts in Upton, MA. All of the molding trim work and polish detail was completed by Dennis Barnett of Classic Molding Restoration.

I'm not sure what I'm more amazed with, the car itself or your knowledge of the car/history/build specifications/assembly plant anomalies. It's obvious that this is more than a job for you, it's a passion.

I built a barn on my property two years ago. I have gone out to the barn every week for two years and I haven't found a damn thing!I don't know how people keep finding muscle cars in their barns.

Beautiful. I'm old enough that I lived these cars in real time. In 1972 I bought a used '70 LS5 TH400 and proceeded to beat on the car like it was a rental. Lots of good ones got away on me, many people have that story. Thanks for the video.

Absolutely beautiful. My Dad ordered his SS454 LS5 Cranbury Red, Black Stripe Bench seat M22 373 posi Cowl hood power steering, had no tach, in 1969 and took delivery in early '70. He ordered it with the T-10, but for some reason, they put the M22 in it, and before my Dad picked up the car, the dealer called him to see about paying the difference between the T-10 and M22. My Dad told them to keep the car then. but they said OK, we will hide the cost somewhere. We used it as the Family car for about 5 years, after that, it received some serious power up-grades and he started racing it. Somewhere down the line, he purchased an L-88 427, went 90 over, roller cam and dual 4's. He pulled the LS5 and swapped the 427. Eventually got into the mid 9's. Around 1980, he grew tired of it, put the LS5 back in and sold it dirt cheap, and purchased a 68 RS SS Camaro. Anyhow, Beautiful Car Patrick. Keep up the great finds and Video's !

That car is a masterpiece. I grew up in that era and my dad worked for Chevy Engineering and used to bring hope all the SS cars and we would take them out after dinner and run the wheels off them. I drove an LS6 with Muncie 4 speed. A wonderful car.

Agree, I'm from the low country of South Carolina. From Dec 1968 to Aug 1971 I was in Vietnam and really sad to have missed a lot of this muscle car era. However, I did have a 1966 GTO and a 19968 GTO, wife wrecked both of them.....got rid of wife! Only wish I could afford one of the following cars: 69 Road Runner, 65-67 Chevelle SS, 1970 Chevelle SS, or a 65 GTO. One can ONLY wish I suppose, especially at the price of them today.

Chuck Black I have a 1966 Chevelle SS 396 convertible with factory power windows and top and sad to say but planning to sell. My daughters are not happy neither am I. You would not believe how may people commented on it when on road. Even had a State official follow me just to stop me and comment. The experience while driving it is unexplainable.

Patrick I just wanted to let you know that I love these old cars with a passion just like you do and this car being one of one is a perfect example of how what you do means so much to me because had it not been for you I would have never known of this cars existence. It is a truly unique and beautiful car. In closing I just wanted to let you know that I really do appreciate you and your knowledge that you have spent a lifetime acquiring due to your love of the most iconic factory hotrod of all time. Thank you so much for taking the time to do what you do in order to be able to bring it to share with those of us who maybe aren't as fortunate or have the means to do it for ourselves. That is the most immaculate Car I have ever seen. The only problem I see is that it looks like it's never even been started or driven. There is no evidence of heat being generated by the engine. I would not be able to resist driving this absolute gem of an LS6 Chevelle. Not to mention, I would never be able to afford such a restoration, or own such a rare example of a car. But, they are built to be driven AND admired!!!

I owned a Tri-Centennial LS5 1970 SS454 at one time. Previous owner had repainted it white. Had CE factory replacement block, etc. Still have a copy of the build sheet and it had special instructions for painting the wheels the same color as the body. Even had the GM paint mixing codes. However, it did not mention anything about special palm emblems. Beautiful car Patrick. - Mark H. with Somernites.

Pro Tip! If you want to search the comments to see if someone else mentioned the same thing, keep scrolling down so that all the comments load (it may take several trips to the bottom for all to load). THEN... "Command F" or use your browser's main menu to "Find". Then type your keywords. I did this to find out what the strange emblem was on the front fender, located right above the turn signal. Rather than read through all the comments. I did a Find on the word "Fender" and found all 12 instances (now 13 - lol) where someone asked about this emblem. It saved me a lot of time!

In the Marines, we had a unique name for that plastic coating illustrated here, on the bonnet cables. We called it "quartermaster". Our brass buckles as well as the brass tip on our web belts was sealed w/that quartermaster to prevent tarnishing. It was then removed by soaking the specific items in Hoppe's #9 solvent. It completely dissolved the quartermaster. We were issued Hoppe's #9 to clean & maintain our M-14's in boot camp @ MCRDSD in the 60's.

Wow !!! That is just incredible. I remember going to the Chevy dealer with my Dad when I was a little kid, and my Dad was buying a 1972 Chevelle Malibu 4 door, and they still had some 1970 SS Chevelle's still on the lot. I don't know if they were trade one, or left overs, but I asked my Dad why ours only had two head lights and those had 4 head lights and stripes. He said those were high performance cars and burned too much gas, so we didn't want one of those. If only we knew back then how special those cars would be. Another great video PGN

Had one of these. Sold it because I was having a child. Can't say I regretted it ever.

If you could have struggled a little harder and kept both that car could have either paid for a really nice wedding or college! Where is it written that every man has to sell all his toys and abandon his hobbies after getting married or having a child? How much could you have possibly sold that vehicle for back then? In 1989 when I was 16 I bought my first car for $750, It was a 1972 Chevelle Malibu!Mechanically it was great interior was nice with a few minor tears on the stitching on the driver side and had some minor rust on the fenders behind the the wheels as well as some minor rust on the rear quarters behind the wheels! You can’t even find a rusted out rolling chassis for that price now! I drove that car for three years and then sold it for more than I bought it for!

Most of them got sold off for a song during the gas crisis when the were not considered much and everyone was buying Toyota’s or Datson’s.

My brother just sold a survivor green 1970 red letter 454. It was in mint condition with only 20k miles. The story out there is that these engines made much more power than the advertised 450 HP.
