The Royal Canadian Air Force CP-140 Aurora is a long-range patrol aircraft used for multiple types of missions over land and water. The CP-140 in this video is from 407 Long Range Patrol Squadron based at CFB Comox in British Columbia, and it is a Block IV variant, which is the newest configuration for the aircraft.
The Aurora supports a wide variety of roles, including anti-submarine, operations management, maritime and overland intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, anti-surface warfare, strike coordination, and search and rescue. It can also assist other government agencies to combat illegal fishing, pollution, drug trafficking, and more.
The Block IV design added components to the external surface of the CP-140 which changed the aerodynamic characteristics of the aircraft. These components included: A large Wideband Global SATCOM radome on the dorsal spine of the fuselage; multiple smaller fairings as part of the Directed Infrared Counter Measures system; and antennas for the Tactical Data Link 16 system.
