@@metzillathank you! I remember my brother practicing to Jean Luc Ponty long before he joined Journey. When he started taking lessons from Freddie Gruber and playing traditional grip he started playing a lot more relaxed and turned The Professor onto Freddie! Steve’s hi-hat trick is sick and his channel is so cool! He plays these old kits from the 1920’s that are beautifully restored!

Before Steve Smith even joined Journey he'd already played JazzRock Fusion with Jean-Luc Ponty (Frank Zappa/Mahavishnu Orchestra) in the 70's! Just check out that Jean-Luc Ponty 'Enigmatic Ocean' album. Steve Smith also played Metal together with guitarist Ritchie Kotzen on his 1989 self titled debut album and layed down some fat grooves on tracks like Strut It.

When cats like that can throw down on rock n roll, n then jus lay down the lumber/pound skins, like that on Jazz, free form Jazz... then u know they are world class. Non musicians as well as alota musicians don't understand how difficult it is to have the tech ability to play different genres of music at a master level.

@@DrJ-hx7wv Ya know, that’s a good question. I just saw a 3-piece SQ2 set for sale - from a major retailer - for over $4,000. Its nuts. Best live drum sound I’ve ever heard was Emmanuelle Caplette playing a Sonor Vintage Series kit; her playing and the drums’ sound knocked me right out. That show was a 4-drummer marathon of clinic/performances, so it was easy to hear the contrast between her kit, a Gretsch/Frankenstein kit, and DW drums. Her sound blew everyone else’s away. They are great drums and well made, but unquestionably really expensive. Warranted? Hard to say. I know for a fact the cost of DW drums is way out of hand, almost unethical. There’s nothing special about them at all.
@markfinney7387
@markfinney7387 3 года назад
@@DrJ-hx7wv Sonorlite drums were made completely in Germany using a special type of metal not ordinary pot metal, the lugs also have the snaplock feature that uses special tension rods that are flattened on two sides along with metal clips. Sonorlite drums also use Scandinavian birch wood so it's the quality of materials, design elements and craftsmanship that costs. Good sound is a little different for each person but generally speaking, with good heads and careful tuning, they sound wonderfully good a little like the Yamaha Recording Custom drums except with a little more brilliance to the sound. Hope this helps and happy drumming!
