Went to high school with Dave (bass) & Wally (lead). Watched them from age 15 as they played and evolved to the Raspberries. Met Eric Carmen in HS. Friend of a friend. Worked with Jim's girlfriend at the time. All genuine musicians and great people. These songs bring happy tears to my eyes. They are beloved by so many. RIP Eric..Thank you.

I was in the sixth grade when this song was popular. I especially remember that it was SCANDALOUS that he was singing about sex AND ESPECIALLY that it was the girl's idea to "go all the way"! I'm so glad you like it! One of my all time faves!

I was driving home and this came on the radio. I had to sit in my driveway and listen to it finish. I hadn't heard the song in a long time and was thirlled they were playing it. Unfortunately I found out why when the DJ said Eric Carmen had passed away over the weekend. Another great voice gone. Man it's sad growing old. But I'm glad I had this song and so many others like it growing up in the 60's and 70''s. Sleep well, Eric, and thanks.

This single was probably one of my first 10 records I ever purchased, and likely only the second album I ever purchased (after "Close To You" by the legendary Carpenters), and I'm not sure, but probably one of the very first albums that had a "scratch and sniff" feature--yes, there was a place on the album cover you could scratch and it smelled like raspberries. So many years ago.

Eric Carmen was a child prodigy and came from a family of classical musicians. They didn't want him going into any other type of music. He said he didn't like the constraint of classical teaching.

This was 1972, Milli, such a power pop banger that had teenybopper boys like me absolutely enthralled! And I loved the cat dance, though if I tried that with my big black bruiser 25 pound Maine Coon, I wouldn't have a shred of a skin left 😹

Dave Smalley was the bass player for this and it's an very underrated thumper of a tune. They had a solid selection of tunes from their 4 albums, from ballads to power-pop and some country-pop stuff (mostly from Smalley as the songwriter and vocalist). If you're looking for that 60's sound (which is kind of synonymous with the Power Pop genre), I would steer you to The Equals (with a young Eddy Grant) doing Baby Come Back or even the Sonics, Have Love, Will Travel.

If you like this one, try "all By Myself" by Eric Carmen. He's the singer in the Raspberries and this was his big hit as a solo act. The piano was inspired by Rachmaninoff’s “piano concerto 2 adagio sostenuto” and it's wonderful.

Proactive lyrics, subtlety and innuendo, without being filthy...It was songs like this that made every 16 year old guy back then hope his girlfriend knew what "go all the way" meant without having to explain it! How do I know? I was one of them! The song was not 60's. It was released July 1972.

I grew up in the same area as these guys, East of Cleveland, Ohio. I knew all of those guys... Wally Bryson on lead guitar, Dave Smalley on bass, and Jim Bonfanti on drums. All four of them are still around. They first had a band named "The Choir" that did great doing cover songs. Our band and theirs played many of the same stages at clubs all around the Cleveland area. Eric Carmen was a total dick towards women back then, and I never liked him because of it. One night I wanted to break his jaw because of the way he acted toward a female "groupie." This isn't a live performance, but the tune is a catchy one. But, no.... they'd never compete with the stones.

@@chab1rd155 Yes, true. Whether he changed over the years I don't know. My lead guitarist from the band is still around, and we talk from time to time. He's still in touch with the other band members of Raspberries. Being a fan I'm sure you've heard his solo song "All By Myself."
