So cool. I have loved anything Eric Carmen was involved with since i first heard his music. Just a very talented, production-oriented artist. U the best Emp'ress...
I was 10 yo in 72. Listened to this on the AM RADIO and bought the 45 at Woolworths. Spun the hell out of that 45. Timeless and simply beautiful music. One of my favorite songs after all these years. Well done there Empress!
Fantastic 1972 Raspberries hit (#5 in the U.S.), very simple yet catchy with outstanding harmonies which they were known for. Lead singer and primary songwriter Eric Carmen went on to solo success after the band broke up 3 years later, with such songs as "All By Myself" and "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again," both are worthy of future requests. 🤠
I was 11 when this song came out in 1972. They used to play this song ALL THE TIME on AM Radio in the 70s, it was always in the rotation. I'm not aware of any real controversy with it. In fact, most song reactors on You Tube play the MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW clip version of this song. Now if Mike Douglas approved of this song on his TV show, then it is really approved!! LOL
@@EmpressReacts Mike Douglas was a daytime TV talk show host like Merv Griffin. (Merv created Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune). Mike's show originated in Philadelphia and ran from the 60s through the 80s. In NYC it aired between 4:30pm and 6pm on CBS-TV. This was before TV networks became obsessed with filling their hours with the news. There are a lot of clips of the Mike Douglas Show on You Tube. He famously had on John Lennon and Yoko Ono for an entire week, also Sonny and Cher, and tons of other newsmakers and celebrities but sometimes it was hard for him to get guests to go to Philadelphia.
This is great! One of those songs I liked when I was young, but didn’t know who sang it or what the title was. Thanks to Mike for requesting this! Great reaction too Empress. Also wasn’t aware that Eric Carmen sang this until I read the comments. Never realized either that the guitar riff came from this song 🤷🏻. Very enlightening pick and reaction ✌️
Hey E, this song was written by Eric Carmen the leader of the raspberries. He has quite a catalogue of songs that he wrote. This song wasn't banned in North America but was banned by the BBC in the UK. Cheers
This song is a mix of the Rolling Stones ("brown sugar", guitar riff), Beach Boys ("Don't worry baby", vocals), Beatles ("twist and shout", around the 3:15 mark in this video)
Oh my gosh this young girl really knows her music that's incredible for a girl her age to know this & its really good song okay everybody it came out 1972 Eric Carmen sing vocals same guy that sings Hungry Eyes from Dirty Dancing it's a great song I'm going to hop in my 1967 Firebird convertible and driving around this summer and play it Loud !!!
It was controversial. As in, are they really talking about.......that? The song was also immensely popular and was one of the hardest "rocking" songs of its day. Instant classic. Listen to Rock 'n Roll Hoochie Koo by Rick Derringer for another song that rocked before its time.
When they wrote the song they thought it could get past the censors on the radio if they put the lines in the girl's mouth so it wouldn't sound predatory. While this worked in the US it still didn't get played in areas of Europe.
@@billbrown4745 being a guitarist remember the hours I spent on breaking down that track and others of the band material it still blows my mind the intricate structure .
