Raspberry pi5: NVME SSD HatDrive from Pineberry PI 

Glad it was helpful. The HatDrive is must have accessory for the rpi5. Now I need a case tall enough to hold all that and provide proper airflow :)

unfortunately not. You will not be able to close the top part. Some minimal grinding will fix that tho :). maybe I will make a short video showing that in more detail.

Hi, I have tested a case with an included NVME hat. Maybe this version is a better fit, I have moved my Home Assistant Pi 5 to this new setup and I will use the Pinebbery Hat Drive with the LCD mount: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HxrRBIngKMY.html

would have loved to test it out but unfortunately I do not have a 4TB nvme available. I now use it as a boot drive for Home Assistant and just love the speed difference compared with the old SD card install

​​@@TricksAndThingsthanks ! Do you think that an NVMe worth it for plex media center on Pi 5 ? I plan to boot and store all my films on the SSD NVMe. Or a SATA SSD will have same performance for a setup like that ?

@@gravgazli well the limitation in this case is the sata ssd that can do around 200-550 mbps while the nvme with gen3 enabled will reach 8-900mbps so the nvme will be faster for sure. If you already have the ssd and are not too concerned about another adapter that needs to stay connected, i think that you will be just fine with plex on the ssd via usb3 adapter. If you do not have the ssd already i would definitely go for the nvme drive since the Hat is not expensive, you get better speeds for future projects and a more compact design ( no extra cables that you need to look after :).

Thank you for the feedback!. I will try to adjust the music better in the next videos. Yes the hat is above the cpu fan but the airflow will hit the hat and evacuate on the sides. The nvme drive is also suspended so i don’t think it has a negative impact. If the hat was bellow the pi5, the nvme will directly heat the pi cpu from behind without any forced airflow ( not sure that a fan will not push even more heat to the cpu) and possibly overheat the pi5.
