Ratchet Screwdriver - Restoration

This is my grandfather's old ratchet screwdriver. It was made by Tauri Oy in Riihimäki, Finland and was manufactured most probably in 1950's. Screwdriver was in a quite bad condition when I found it. Ratchet mechanism didn't work and the shaft was heavily bent. Tip has also been repaired in some point and I had to re-do it. Brass collar had several deep dents which were difficult to sand and polish without losing all the writings.

That design was interesting, to have a screw holding the handle in is unusual. Saving your ancestors tool is something to treasure - great job!

I would be so nervous working on my grandads tools for fear of messing up but amazing work and you can keep the memories alive to pass on now

It is nothing particularly special, nor valuable, but it is a treasure worth so much more than that, to be reminded of your Grandfather, every time you pick it up and use it. I have an old pipe smokers tool in a leather case that belonged to my Grandfather, that I restored and still use. It is worth nothing, but it always sets my mind on him when I use it. Lovely restoration my friend, may it give you happy memories.

Excellent! The wall anchor in the handle so you could chuck it in the drill was genius! Love the official presentation gloves at the end. Nice touch. I’m looking forward to more videos like this in the future. Take care 😃👍🏼

Absolutely beautiful restoration! I could really tell the love free grandfather that was put into the restoration of this. The video quality was outstanding. My husband and I are starting to restore some of his grandfather's tools as well so it should be interesting. I can only hope we do half as well as you did!

Nice, very nice restoration. I saw that you hardened the tool, but did you temper it? Hardening makes metal brittle, annealing makes metal malleable, tempering bridges the "too soft" to the too hard" to the tool is "just right."

Mekanismi on melko yleinen ja käytetty muidenkin merkkien meisseleissä, mutta tämän valmistaja kai vähän harvinaisempi. En kovin montaa netistä löytänyt.

Kiitos videoista. Itsellä Fiskarsin sama avain. Luultavasti kuuluu 12 tuuman kyntö auraan
