elle fanning is literally a frozen statue. frozen in time. she is one of the best dressed and most on theme as well as elegant and not overdressed or tacky. dylan we might have a falling out over this
did you know that before you saw the outfit? i can kinda understand what she's trying knowing that context, but just looking at it, it still looks like plastic wrap. i feel like they could've done a way better job making it look more like ice or marble, similar to the girl with the wood dress
i think it's supposed to be water fountain from the garden (Met Gala theme is based on story "The Garden Of Time by J.G. Ballard"), frozen in time, also two birds is a nod to Aurora, birds help her dress in the movie
Ed Sheeran would look great in some medieval fair with Hobbit theme, and he would be there dressed as a Hobbit dancing around with his little Hobbit friends
Elle Fanning's glass look was one of my favorites. And yes it's meant to be glass which is on theme if you're familiar with the story. I think she may have been the only one who pulled off a glassy look that actually looks elegant and interesting.
The sand dress was the best one especially since they used real sand to make it. If you pay close attention when she walks you can see some of the sand falling down as she walked the red carpet.
That would be so annoying 😭 Imagine you're wearing open toe heels and you get sand stuck between your toes because some bitch decided to bring sand to the met gala 💀
I totally agree about the people who show up in the most basic outfits. Like you've been invited to this event meant for beautiful, adventurous outfits - an event that most of us will never get to attend - and you really showed up in a basic black tux, like what a waste of an invite.
I do get that, but also it’s a charity gala so I feel like some people especially those who don’t fully lean into the Hollywood lifestyle just show up to support the event and not for the fashion portion.
@@gooodmorning4526 Ooh! Watch Jack Edwards' video about the Met Gala theme if you want to know. He describes the story the theme is based on, and he makes it very easy to understand
The theme of this met gala(if you didn't already know) was actually based on a short story so i think that's why people have a hard time understanding the theme, because pleople see garden in the title and just run with it...
I’m still astonished about Dylan’s hair change. He’s become more unhinged over the years that his hair needed to compensate and calm down to level him out.
His present hair fits him so much better. The cut allows for more length that actually fits his face, if he were to ever grow it out a little bit. The spikey was giving, "if you needed more proof that I grew up in the 90s/early 00s." 😂
He's entered his 90's movie/pop star phase, and I'm here for it. The curtain bang is the peak of sexy. What guy doesn't want to look like prime-of-his-life Brendan Fraser?
I think Zendaya's blue look was the best of the night, I love the grapes and the hummingbirds and the look of death in her face, nature outlives us in a long enough timeline. Perfect.
Even though not a lot of people like Ben Shapiro, his Met Gala roasts are pure gold. xD It's especially entertaining if you hate celebrities. :) Dylan can appreciate these events and outfits more, so it gives it a nice balanse.
every year i volunteer in a back to school drive for those in poverty. our church gives out free school supplies and free clothes and every year bombas donates hundreds if not thousands of socks. we usually have leftovers so i have a lot of pairs of bombas. BEST SOCKS EVER. i’m not even kidding. they’re so nice. yall if you buy bombas you’re actually funding this back to school drive and other events for those that are less fortunate. Good sponsor dylan
That doesn't make a lot of sense unless you literally just take home one pair per year- I'd assume the company would prefer the leftovers to go to even more folks in dire need
@@shannonceleste5557 well once they’re donated they’re donated. all the volunteers can pick out a few pairs of socks not much more because the rest go to countries that are really poor in south america or get donated to local homeless shelters. really bombas has been a great supporter and has been such a great help to us. plus i do have a lot of pairs because i’ve participated every year for like five years and they last a long time
So true, he always looks like he went through a normal door in his house that turned out to be a portal and ended up transported somewhere else entirely at random and just went with it
Dylan’s fashion commentary is top tier. Like you can be at the met gala in a thousand dollar dress but if it looks like cling film it looks like cling film
5:08 "And like, i think you like go up the stairs ...and then you like come back down the stairs and then you like come back" Yep.....this guy is definitely writing a book
Elle fannings dress was actually one of my favorites. Something about the birds wrapping their way around her and how flowy the bottom was. Idk I just really loved the dress.
Dylan slowly falling in love with Jonathan bailey is my roman empire. And from first Bridgeton video to this it is a best enemies to lovers better than kathony lol
The way I dropped everything to watch this when it was up. The MET review was how I found your channel, Dylan, and while I love every video and an upload always makes my day, this has become the Big Hype video each year, it never fails!
The theme: garden of time, was a story about a count and a countess with a bejeweled flower garden and an angry mob trying to come after them. In the end, the count hugs his wife realizing he hadn't done that in years because he thought he had time and was too focused on the wrong material things
I wish the Met was more about the fashion than it is. It's more of a celebrity show off. It should just be models and their designers and the entire team that made it, should be at the ready to talk about thr trials and tribulations of making it. Fashion is art, but the Met is celebrity show and tell, and that breaks my heart.
My sister lives away from home and this channel is one of the biggest ways we still bond. We just text/call each other and say OOGA BOOGA or DYLANNNN as soon as you upload. We love this channel
I was so shocked when he said "let me know if you disagree with me..." and I realized it was already the end!! It was way to fast! I love to see him judge outfits and judge them with him.
I absolutely love the met gala and red carpet events where I watch someone like Hautelemode who really knows what they’re talking about with fashion and then Dylan who literally just opinions
Let me recommend you Taylortiminskas. She mostly does shorts, but has been trying to make it in full video form, too. She’s a mix of both those qualities.
I know Dylan roasting the outfits is for jokes, though he makes a lot of really good points. But for anyone who was wondering. I love that the theme was "Garden of Time" and you can tell who went to the source material and who heard Garden and went with that. It looks like an amazing Movie with a great plot. A couple living in a Castle with a magical Garden of Crystal flowers that when plucked rewind time. A war is happening and come to siege the castle so the couple start plucking flowers to have more time together. There is a lot of beauty and emotion. The silver dresses are designed with inspiration from one of the outfits in the movie.
met gala is two parts: the entrance of the rich&famous, and then they walk into the museum and see an art gallery themed around the same prompt that the celebs are given. there's probably an online gallery version but nobody actually looks that deeply into the museum portion of the event. its giving rupauls dragrace runways with the contestants having vague ideas on the theme, and rupaul wearing the actual concept.
15:16 i actually quite love this look i think it beautifully shows the eternalness and the complexity of time because you can't tell where one outfit begins and the other ends; the shapes also feel so organic, his tie slightly resembles a rose, and the shape of her dress is very flower-esque which all adds to the garden aspect. no excuse for the calves though, put them away eddy.
Beautifully put! I have to disagree with both you and Dylan on the exposed calf thing - it's not the most aesthetically pleasing trouser style, but it's something different and interesting. For me, the knee length trousers add fashion points
@@avigailbloch2740 I agree about needing something different, but it seems like the Met is too formal to have calves out, especially with a suit jacket on top. I like your train of thought though!
The audacity for one of the influencers attending the met gala to mime “let them eat cake” makes me think the French were onto something with their revolution
Ngl Idek know hb well but I think people r just taking it a bit too far. She wasn’t even invited to the met and she never payed the $75k ticket. She was just doing a popular tt trend cuz she was all dressed up. But I would just say the timing of it was off. If she made that video last yr nobody would care. So I do get it but at the same time it’s just not that deep.
Well the theme was inspired by a tale, that talks about time and elitism. I think saying “let them eat cake” even adds to the “too much” outfit, is so beautiful, but so ridiculous at the same time. Plus Antoinette didn’t even say those words, and she was just a girl that was raised on that narcissistic environment
@@GwenSDaisydoesn’t excuse anything. the french revolution is plastered all over history books and palestine has been in the news and on social media for the past couples of months(and the past eighty years). or she could have watched the damn movie. she’s stupid and insensitive.
Having watched Jack Edwards' video where he explains the story the theme is based on, I think some of the grey men's suits are a reference to the end of The Garden of Time, where the main couple turn to stone. And the bejewelled dresses (especially Elle Fanning's, designed to look transparent) I think are references to the crystal flowers in the garden
AHHHHHHH THE JONATHAN BEILEY APPRECIATION, YES I BET BOTH OF MY KIDNEYS YOU WOULD FALL IN LOVE WITH ANTHONY IF YOU SAW LIKE MORE OF THE SHOWS OR HONESTLY JUST THE RU-vid COMPLIMATIONS OF THEM BANTERING ARE SO GOOD
Yeah, it would have been nice to see those flower elements better, they can pull anything off but especially that. Still, I loved every suit, they killed it 😍
"Go for the gremlin look, cause you got the gremlin energy" "He looks like a rabbit jester" "This reminds me of the Oogie Boogie man" *shows picture of TV static* "This is the feeling I get when I look at dresses like that" LMAO the commentary we came for
Dude Bombas are awesome! Been buying them for years. They are such high quality. Thick, nice for winter, but also breathable for the summer, they don’t slip down, and if you ever find any holes like if you accidentally cut the tag wrong or if you wear them for a few months and you work in fields where your socks get heavy wear, if they ever get any holes you can get them replaced and it is super easy! Definitely worth purchasing. Especially if you have sensitive skin!
