I really love their products though. Some are really good for people that react to most other brands but find they can use some Lush products. But there are also people that are fine with most brands but get bad reactions to some Lush products.
I swear I can type English. I just mean I’ve seen this table used a lot but it seems so wrong to have the colours flipped like that! Who ever decided on that woke up and chose chaos
Their mascara, perfume, and liquid highlighters are brilliant tho. The three step routine destroyed my skin in particular the astringent toner. Clarins is good but the inkey list is the one I’ve had the best results from. Plus you can get like four five products from inkey for the same price as one item from clarins. Also I wonder do we end up paying more for products from counters as they have to pay their own staff and I imagine pay rent to boots or wherever for the counters?
Me and Clinique skincare hate each other. When I was in HS my mom got me one of their 3 step things. It literally ate my skin off. It was horrible. It permanently ruined it. Especially on my cheeks and around my nose. Never again.
Cerave is a brand that I've always felt really safe using on my skin because every dermatologist I've ever gone to has approved. It's not an exciting brand, but it's faithful, consistent, and perfect for a basic skin care routine.
@@artloverg but that's also skincare as a whole lol what works for some won't for others. It's really great for my skin, I'd recommend it to tweens changing over from perfect childhood skin to difficult hormone skin, just for the simplicity of the formulas. I feel it would have been great when I was a teen. Uncomplicated, unfragranced, simple.
Oh believe me when I say I'm happy with cerave's results and consistency, but damn is he right that it can get boring. However in the words of my dermatologist " with your laundry list of skin issues, lets stick with dove, cerave, and your proscribed washes"
So true. Sometimes I just want the luxury of the high end brands. Cerave is a solid though. The best shape my skin has been in is getting micro needling every three months and just using cerave and a prescribed retinol.
@@JamesWelsh i really want to know why you like the Inkey List so much? A lot of their selling point ingredients e.g. CoQ10, vit E, B and C, mushroom extract etc. are listed after phenoxyethanol, which means their concentration is less than 1% (the max conc. of phenoxyethanol allowed in formulations). The mean concentration of phenoxyethanol in skin care is 0.43%. Aren't most of those amazing ingredients not very useful at those concentrations?
I recommend CeraVe for people who are just starting out skincare. It's inexpensive and effective. I do tell them the same thing though. "CeraVe is great but it's not the ONLY brand. Start off slow and start playing around with other things."
Yes!!! I think Cera Ve is also great for people who want to spend their money on effective treatments, but are fine with an affordable, basic cleanser that’s gentle
I use cerave because im allergic to a lot of shit like eyes swollen shut allergic and cerave is the only one that im not allergic too. Does it work for me? kinda but I also use a prescription gel and the mini pill for my ance.
@@mollyoxy same. Dry. Sensitive. But also acne prone with rosacea. At this point, there’s very few products I actually can use. Cerave is awesome. I spent a lot of money at Sephora on products I didn’t realize we’re doing more harm than good. Go figure.
@@taradiane I did that with a combination of Paula's Choice, CeraVe, and Cosrx. Except the 1% retinol in squalane. That shit works for my skin! And also their high adherence silicone primer is 👌🏻
I use the Krave GBR serum and their SPF and love both of them, I have normal skin (oilier in summer, dryer in winter) that is prone to breakouts and the GBR especially has helped so much with that! The SPF feels really nice and moisturizing and doesn't have a white cast.
I love the Inkey List products. My skin looks so much better after only 3 weeks. I also got the hair loss thinggy, and I am not sure I would recommend it, though.
Thank you so much for your explanation about CeraVe because as someone who has super acne prone skin, my experience is the same: people bombard me with “try CeraVe! It’ll work for you! It’s dermatologist recommended!” And they’re right, CeraVe is a great brand, the ingredients are great, and it helps a lot of people, but not everyone because it broke me out into the WORST cystic acne I’ve ever had since I hit puberty 10 years ago. And I’m not the only one who’s had that experience 🤷🏽♀️ So it’s like ya, we get it, it’s a great brand. But it’s not for everyone. So lay off and let us find what works for us, even if contains fragrance and isn’t recommend by RU-vid dermatologists 🥴
I'm a year late to this but I thought I was the only one with this experience! I've never had acne in my life but as soon as I started using a CeraVe cleanser I go these horrible painful lumps all over my chin/jaw/forehead/nose. I spent so long trying to figure out what was happening because everybody is so all over CeraVe being the "perfect" skincare for everyone that I thought surely not, but the only time it went away was when I accidentally left it behind at my friends place and started using my tiny bit of remaining Rosen cleanser I had tucked away. Needless to say I didn't bother getting it back.
Yes! Oh my god, yes! Those two companies have made all the difference in my skin (in addition to various K-beauty brands, as well). The PC cleanser is so unassuming but amazing for my face, and with Inkey List, I just can't pick a favorite product. Also, from one Kristin to another, hi!
@@sluttymctits4496 do yall used products from Paula's and inkey lists same time? Which one is better? Cus i wanna start an buy a skin care set and i wanna know which one is the best
@@jela9706 - I don't really have a set routine and just go with what my skin is telling me at the time, but I do use them at the same time, pretty much daily. The PC Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser just makes my skin so smooth, bright, and and clean with absolutely no stripping or drying, and I usually follow that with an assortment of Inkey List acids and K-Beauty serums/ampoules, and alternate between moisturizers from both sources. Basically, I use PC to prep, exfoliate, and balance my skin, while the others I use to target specific issues, if that makes any sense.
@@sluttymctits4496 omg idk where to start 😅 im currently browsing through inkey list products right now. I browsed though Paula's earlier and they have so many products to choose from, cleanser alone is overwhelming. I found inkey lists fewer. May i ask what are the good k-products out there i can browse too? Sorr for the bother 😅
I love the moisturize surge from Clinique. It’s literally my favorite moisturizer for my face. Nothing else makes my skin feel plump and hydrated and healthy for the whole day, and it NEVER pills up when I put on makeup on top.
@@olivia.weaverr If you are going tonuse Proactiv, use the products that are not too harsh for the skin. It us good to have a skin routine. Sometimes the simpler the better, it doea not have to cost and arm and a leg.
i wish i could go back to my 17 yr old self and take away that proactiv and give her some cereve. My skin was definitely being overstripped. I also bought into all those coffee ground and lemon juice Pinterest DIY’s. 😶
I edit videos like this, and I am very curious to know more about your opinion on this!! Do you wish the chart was taller? Is the text difficult to read? Do you feel like it's crowding James out of the screen? I know these are odd questions, lol but I want to make sure I'm creating videos that the RU-vid community will love!! 😊
The chart is almost pointless. But it looks the same on all of these types of videos. I watched one of the Sims 4 expansion packs being rated and you could barely see the image on the front cover of each box. I just think of it as I’m watching a video where he’s holding up the product and then it’s gone. If I really want to know, I’m going to have to rewind through the video. Because I certainly can’t see what’s on the chart. But it is what it is, a fad that has spread around RU-vid.
Clinique lover here 👋🏼! I don’t think just cause a line/product has been out for a long time it’s “outdated”. I think they were definitely one of the most innovative brands ever with being 100% allergy tested. I don’t know any brand that does that and is so safe for my super sensitive skin! It’s kind of that old saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. These other trendy brands don’t research new formulas or create NEW ingredients they just use whatever buzzword ingredients people seem to be obsessed with at any given time. How is that innovative?
Almost everything I use is Clinique. I love them! I’m a dry/sensitive skin gal. The only product I stay away from is the Clarifying toners...as James mentioned. Too much alcohol. Love every Clinique product for dry skin! ❤️🤩👍🏻✌🏻🤷🏻♀️
Well yeah, they aren't exactly innovative but they are very safe. I'm a faithful user as well but we can call a spade a spade and say that it's also a good thing. Clinique doesn't need to be innovative and that's not a bad thing at all. I hate constant reformulations and rebranding.
I have a soft spot for The Ordinary because the products are affordable and hit my personal needs - cruelty-free, vegan, lack of fragrance. I've had financial issues the past couple of years, so The Ordinary is a way I can have "nice" (i.e., effective) skincare without breaking the bank. I completely agree some of the formulas aren't great, and it's more of an intro to good skincare. I received a Sephora gift card over Xmas, so I ordered three products from Inkey List I'm eager to try!
@@dcdawn That's made by pharmaceutical companies and only available in the US by RX, so while Drs working for Curology can prescribe it for people that sign up for the service, it's not a Curology product.
Yes, I did a double take when you said Curology was for the young but then I thought about it and could see how you could get that. For me, all I've ever heard about it is from women who are a little older who use it for wrinkle defense. But then again I'm 52 and in the States so it makes sense why I would get that impression and you would get another at your age and in the UK (so not able to use the service, as far as I know). Thanks for the video and explaining in depth on the brands, Kara
"Does the cult behavior need to stop? No, I like cults." Dead. 😂 When you're pushing 50 like me, those affordable ceramides in CeraVe are like water in a desert lol I wish I would have taken better care of my skin when I was younger. *Sigh*
Dude, I can't get enough of the Hydro Boost! I bought a tiny sample size first to try it out, not expecting much because, well, it's Neutrogena. My skin adores it -- my face just slurps it all up and I don't think any other moisturizer makes my skin so noticably smooth and soft. I do switch it up and use other moisturizers that have more targeted ingredients, but I always make sure to use the Hydro Boost a few times a week (mainly on my easy/recovery days).
I’m curious about garnier, L’oreal and nivea skincare, since it is so huuuge in the Netherlands😅 I did use a lot of those brands, now only the micellair water. Or are these brands just ‘for the feet’ immediately?
I never really fell into the "natural is better" mindset, I actually kinda fell into the "yeah, SCIENCE!" camp which can be equally problematic (people need to stop citing "research" as if all studies are created equal and one single study is enough to draw conclusions). It never really made sense to me that natural products were inherently better, because natural things can be really dangerous. Millions of years of evolution haven't driven plants to becoming the perfect natural solutions for our skin, it's largely given plants mechanics that deter animals and other plants from fucking with them, e.g. poison ivy. Anything helpful that we may stumble upon, such as certain seed and fruit oils which are really nourishing for the skin, are pleasant coincidences, they're not there because nature is our friend.
I think some people do tend to think those who only want natural products do so for thinking “natural is better” when at least most i have known (including me) seek those products more bc of the cruelty free side of it rather than what’s better. I know some brands that are soooo good for the skin but for my personal beliefs on animal testing i would never give my money to those brands.
Isn't Clinique's entire line fragrance-free though? I feel like they're kind of under-rated. Yes their products are pretty basic, but so is Cerave, you know?
I think people forget their demographic is largely those with irritable/problematic skin and their formulations represent that. As long as you skip over their basic lines, they have some amazing stuff. I do stray from moisture surge, but I always end up going back. I feel like their new releases aren't flashy enough for most people. They may not be trendsetters, but they mostly avoid the gimmick of the trendy brands. For the most part, they have solid products at a reasonable price point.
@@stefaniem7856 that's true of ONE of their products: the clarifying toner in their 3-step line. That entire line is very dated and I definitely wouldn't use it. They do have pretty decent products they have launched more recently though. Their Moisture Surge line is quite good and very hydrating.
It's so nice to hear I'm not the only person who isn't thrilled with Cerave. I've tried to use their products on my sensitive combination skin and always end up with major cystic acne breakouts.
I love Clinique since 10 years ago. And still loving them. Old formulation and concepts. I totally agreed with that. But sometime it just works bette than those fancy things.
OK but Cerave smoothing cleanser literally cleared up my acne when it was at its worst (combined with Skin +me subscription, which btw, id love you to weigh in on that service)
You're so right about Clinique! However, the Clinique's Dramatically Different Gel is still a staple in my routine because it provides reliable, lightweight hydration and doesn't break me out. I'm curious to try one of your moisturizer recommendations though!
Paula's choice has been a total game changer in my routine! I love every product I've tried by them. And Kiehls the only product I like is the Avocado eye cream, its super moisturizing and I got the large size on sale
James, you should try curology and do a full review. I love how you asked and borrowed from Hyram’s video. I need another collab from you guys. Wishing you a lovely day 😊
I'd love to see this but doing it by what store they're sold at...like ranking all the skincare brands at Sephora. There are SO many brands and I always feel overwhelmed when I try to sort
Omg I am in love with You, may be because of what you said about Clinique, not many people have had the balls to say what you did, just because its such a reputable brand (I said with airquotes) ..! I am new to your channel and the entire Saturday was spent watching you.. You are brilliant..
You should give Curology a try. They're not a teenage brand by any means. You're assigned a Provider after going through your skin issues and they create a custom formula for the treatment. Mine includes Trentinoin, Clindamycin, and Azelaic Acid. It's definitely not a teenage brand by any means and I wish you would give them a go and see what they're about.
The one product I love from Cereve is their healing ointment. I use it most every night before bed. It's greasy but I wake up every morning with healed, glowing skin. I'm 53.
I was so wanting to love LRP. I wanted to just get gentle with my skin, so I bought a lot of their stuff. Bad mistake. For whatever reason, it did not work for me. I was so sad.
It's pretty much the only thing my skin seems to like so far. BUT they sell in mainland China, like L'Oréal, which means they test on animals. They don't elsewhere, only for legal reasons exclusively in China, but any animal testing is too much. I doubt I'll be buying more. I'll just deal with my skin being full of acne and scars.
When you mentioned Glossier I had flashbacks to the chemical exfoliator that absolutely dried out and ruined my skin (I’m a die-hard acid fan so it wasn’t be being overly sensitive) but it was totally grim and I remember it leaving the skin feeling weirdly tacky/chalky 🤮
Omgoodness James, seriously hun, im not sure when you last used clinique, but as a 40 year old women with a lot of scaring and a history of smoking, as well as being in recovery, I have also been fighting Lupus for 27 years now (it too effects my skin).... so to say the least my skins been through hell. Clinique was the first brand that gave me any kind of results.... there moisture surge line is AMAZING, and there MD line is insane.... the products really are solid.... and reasonably priced.... I've agreed with almost everything you have said, but the Clinique part confused me a little.... maybe it's because your haven't gotten to the stage of having damaged and aging skin.... and I pray you never do!! Love you darling!! Have an absolute amazing day!!!! Omgoodness PLEASE do the K beauty rankings!! Oh and before I forget I absolutely agree with the cerave review as well. Though I will say, I'd much rather use cerave than Cetaphil.... there isn't a SINGLE product from Cetaphil that doesn't completely strip and dry mt skin. It's so annoying, because it's the ONLY thing they offer alot of time in hospitals here in America!!!! LOL, THAT AND AVEENO! Ok shutting up now!! Love your content!! 😋😁🥰💖
Girl, don't take everything these influencers say to be the golden standard. It's just his opinion, and honestly I feel like everyone has something against them for the fact that they usually have fragrance but fragrance doesn't bother me one bit personally. If it works for you, then that's what you need to keep using! I love the clinique products I have, and honestly If something is working for me, I don't care what the youtubers think. Just like using skin care with honey isn't recommended by a lot of YT'rs, but it sure helps my skin! More power to you!!
@@JamieNotLamie Awww!! Thank you!! I will listen to there opinions, but it doesn't influence whether I like a product or not. I've been in and around the beauty world for over 20 years.... EVERYONE has an opinion lol, I was just commenting because there are alot of people who WILL take an influencers word as golden, and I was just afraid it would keep people from trying or taking clinique skincare as a joke, and that's just not the case. And also wanted to offer an explanation for his experience with the brand. He and Robert are just now getting to an age where their skin will start to change.... so I was trying to say, don't write them off completely trust and believe the day will come when essences, and serums, just won't be enough. Not to mention they genuinely have some of the most reasonable prices among the prestige brands. But before I start repeating stuff, lol, ill close this!! Thanks again for lookin out!! I hope your having an AMAZING day!! Take care of yourself darlin!! 😊😁🥰💖
I would have liked to see la-roche posay. Also, you should totally try First Aid Beauty! Their intense hydration ultra repair cream is a must for my dry skin in the winter!
@@JamesWelsh I’m wondering what your thoughts are on Kate Somerville! I know you’ve recommended a few things but I’d love to know what you think is worth the money and what isn’t 💜
I don't understand where Clinique got that rep. I started using it in my 20s and stopped before my 30s. I thought it was an expensive young people starter brand. Back then It was I guess.
Same, I actually just bought her more of her favorite moisturizer as a belated Christmas present. She even texted me confused because she thought I hated Clinique.
@@TaylerBootz My friend has been using since her 20s as well. I always found it old and frumpy and never understood the allure. But, that’s the beauty of skin care - personal and different for everyone !
Like I've said before, Cerave is a good baseline brand to reset your skin and wean yourself off of harsher skincare routines like St Ives and Clean and Clear. Than you move on to another if you want to.
Hi James, totally agree with your “get on my face” choices but I must say, Curology has been a game changer for me. Since I began using them, I am in love with my skin.😊
The Inkey List is incredible!! The retinol serum and retinol eye cream transformed my skin. Just bought their peptide moisturizer and vitamin moisturizer to try. James, can you do a review of their new hair products as your “sometimes hair”? 😊😊
@@anastasiagialalidis286 I had started to see fine wrinkles forming in the corners, so I started using it every night for a few months now and they’ve all but gone. I also like how thick and creamy it is which is perfect for the winter.
I currently use the retinol eye cream, the vitamin C serum and the glycolic acid toner. They all work wonders on my skin. The eye cream has a great texture and feels like it actually protects my skin. I will get more of their stuff for sure.
Ha, the mood on the Cera Ve bit!!! And yes, pleeeease do this for K beauty. I was a little gutted when Hyram didn’t include them in his. Would be good to get coverage of lesser known brands.
James, two over 40 RU-vidrs actually love Curology for a good Rx tretinoin custom formula...Angie Hot & Flashy and myself! I actually thought it would be too harsh for my sensitive skin but I've been loving it. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it! 💖
Same here. I'm 43. I was a little disappointed that it was even included if he's never used it and has never even researched it. I find that a little unfair.
I'm 33 and I used it for 7 months amd saw ZERO results and I was sooooo disappointed. We tweaked the formula several times and I ended up canceling. My first thought was "Maybe if you're 15 and have 'those little annoying bumps' that all of their sponsored ads talk about" - but I have scarring and serious redness and texture and it was almost like they were limited in the ingredients that they were allowed to offer me and limited to only 3 and it just wasn't what I needed.
I'm 56 and have been using Curology for about 6 months. I'm having great results and love their approach. I really enjoy watching James' content, but when it comes to skincare, what works for him and his more oily skin won't work for me and my dry mature skin. I was a little disappointed that he included brands that he admitted he didn't know much about. Why include them if you can't make any informed recommendation. But I still love watching you James! 🙂
I have a weird emotional connection to Clinique....it was just the epitome of 'class' when I was a teenager (I'm 34 now!). I can't quit the cleansers- sigh
The only thing I won’t ever give up from cerave is the morning lightweight moisturizer and the night moisturizer with niacinimide. They’re the only moisturizers that don’t ever break me out and actually sink in!
22 minutes of James rage quitting and being excessively tired is quality content. I really hope you do a kbeauty version since that's pretty much all I use now!
James, I am in a group full of Younique huns constantly pushing their skin care and I've about had it! I am not a licensed esthetician so I don't feel I bring a lot to the table but they're now claiming their products are plant based. PLEASE make a video on the falacies of their product!!!
“Curology is a teenage brand” (laughing) I am 48 and Curology was my introduction to a low dose tret combined with azelaic acid and niacinimide. I absolutely enjoy my gentle formula! Also I really love the Ole Henriksen transformation line.
Curology is amazing to get access to prescription medications like Tretinoin, Azelaic acid, Clindamycin etc in one formula without having to worry about insurance and things like that in the US. It is convenient and while you are not visiting a derm, you are assigned an RN so you are not just on your own.
Oh I want to switch to Tretinoin once my skin has acclimated to retinol every day🙃 right now I use The Honest Company Pure Retinol every two days. Thanks for the info, I might give Curology a try
So firstly, I was still teary from a panic attack and found your video engaging and actually laughed a few times. Thank you 🙏🏾. Also, I love curology! I had terrible acne from ages 13-30. They got me tretinoin without derm prices! Literally fixed my face! I really love Dr.'s visit too. I ignored crave beauty til now but I will check them out for sure! 💙💜💚
Hey James! Just gonna start off by saying : love your channel! I love your reviews and your insight on skincare. You're one of a handful of people who helped me get serious about skincare. I and my skin thank you! On my journey through the endless sea of skincare products, I was surfing Sephora's online store and came about an Origins gift set. And though I could agree that some of the products don't stand out too muchsimilar EXCEPT FOR the Mega-Mushroom Relief & Resilience Soothing Treatment Lotion. I found the product to be gentle on my skin, takes care of my redness, and I found it pretty hydrating. I pour about a half of a teaspoon amount directly into my palm, rub it a little between my hands and apply in a pressing motional over my face and neck, and proceed with the rest of my routine once it dries. Thought I'd share my experience in case you ever decide to do another product review of the brand.
