Rattlesnake Research | Michigan State University 

I grew up in Montmorecy County, between Hillman and Atlanta. The timber cutters would bring in rattles to my parents store. I did a little internet research and saw that the last known massasauga rattlesnakes were seen in that area around 2010. It would be a shame if the Rattlesnake Hills area of that County no longer had any of its namesake snakes in the area. Has MSU done any research on Massasauga Rattlesnakes that far north? Is there any interest from the University for this?

Just came across one in the nature preserve by pretty Lake in Kalamazoo Michigan Texas Township. There was another one I did not see further in the woods. I had my dog and had to retreat

I was bit by one once...threw the ball for a chocolate lab....she wouldn't get the ball out of the bushes...? Well I found out why!! When it bit my hand...I jerked back and pulled the whole snake out of the bushes...hanging of my hand by its fangs. The bite isn't the bad part...that feels like a hornet sting...then goes away. The after effects are what sucks!! I had dizziness ...vomiting...cold sweats , chills , took about 3 hrs. to go away. The following day..I had severe diarrhea and excessive thirst!! Some swelling from bite site...I went to ER they said I wasn't in any danger. Did not affect my raspatory or neurological ..just drink lots of fluids even if you can hold it down...it does pass though. Best describe it as food poisoning...but with pain in hand and arm.

That’s so awesome. I love snakes so much just appreciate everything about them such beautiful, wonderful creatures. I’ve always grew up catching different kinds of snakes, but I’ve never seen one of those. They deserve to be here just as much as us if not more.

In Ontario Canada, the area north east of Parry Sound, is a designated Massasauga Rattler Preserve. The footage in this video could easily have been taken in this area of Ontario. I haven't actually been on the preserve, but nearby, I haven't seen one of these snakes yet...just a few Garter Snakes. Even though Oathkeeper says he was told he wasn't in any danger when he was bitten, it sounded awful!! I still don't want to get bitten by one!
