I should probably do another video since I changed it up. I tapped off the parking light so they come on with the parking lights instead of always on with the ignition.

Hey dude, New Rav4 owner here, in a little bit of a pickle after installing these. Disclaimer: I'm not a car guy. This was really my first DIY attempt at adding a modification. Here's what happened. Two days ago, I installed raptor lights by following this video. After all, you made it look so easy. I clipped the lights into the grill and then moved on to wiring. I wrapped the (black) ground wire around a nearby bolt (not the battery) and secured it in place. Then for the power (red), the kit came with a little "add-a-fuse" type splitter for the fuse along with a 10amp fuse. I also decided to use the 7.5amp USB2 fuse located in the upper left corner of the fuse box. I plugged the "add-a-fuse" into the 7.5amp USB2 slot, and then put back the original 7.5amp fuse into one of the slots before filling the other slot with the 10amp fuse that came with the kit. (I suspect this is where I messed up). Anyways, I turned on the ignition and the raptor lights worked beautifully. I drove around the rest of the day, no problem. The next day, I was driving around and the dashboard tells me that the "Start Stop system" has a malfunction, and that it's been disabled and that I should see a dealer. I didn't sweat it, as I never really liked the system anyways. A few hours later, I see a "battery charging" alert on the dash. Again, didn't think anything of it. Then today (the second day), I was dropping my daughter off at school when she started playing with the power windows. Suddenly, I felt the steering wheel lock up (lose power steering). I look at my dash, and a whole myriad of alerts and lights lit up. The power steering symbol, the parking brake malfunction, the battery symbol, and several other system alerts. It was honestly scary and overwhelming. Panicked, I managed to immediately pull over and shut off my engine. Upon trying to restart it, I realized it wouldn't start. Very similar to a dead battery type situation, the dash lit up but the car wouldn't start- only make that clicking sound that we all dread. I managed to get someone to jump start my car, which worked at first, but immediately died a few moments after... which in my very limited knowledge of cars means that it's the alternator, right? Anyways, I remove the raptor lights completely (removed the ground wire from the bolt, and removed the "add-a-fuse" from the USB2 slot, putting back in the original 7.5amp fuse). I checked to make sure that fuse wasn't blown and it wasn't. Then we try jumping it again, this time leaving the cables on for 30 minutes. But no luck. After disconnecting, the car died a few moments later again. I've since had the car towed back to my home, but I'm confused, frustrated, and honestly a bit embarrassed feeling like I must have made a real rookie mistake without even knowing it. So many people seemed to have had such an easy time installing these lights. Right now, all I can think about it that I must have made a dumb mistake with the fuses. Maybe I should have only put one of the fuses back in the "add-a-fuse" instead of both? (10amp + 7.5amp in a 7.5amp slot) Maybe they should have been reversed in terms of which slot they were in? (Does that matter?) Anyway, I'm really hoping I didn't really mess up my car in a costly way. What should I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks. Reply

What year is your RAV4? Hybrid or Gas?
@hollywoodhusky
@hollywoodhusky Год назад
@@DoItTogether2022 It's a 2020 gas. Also, I had the battery tested today at an auto parts store and it was healthy. Making me think it's the alternator or a circuit? What could I have done to cause this? Timing feels too impeccable to be just a coincidence. There's at least one other person on a forum that this happened to (immediately after installing raptor lights) but it was never solved.

@@hollywoodhusky You Mentioned you drove around for a day with no issues, so it seems that it may be coincidence. I haven’t heard of anyone having issues, especially since the led lights are very low draw. Try getting a reading from an obd2 reader.

@@DoItTogether2022 thanks for the reply! had the alternator tested and it came back at only 11.9v no load and 11.7 loaded. So that means something's wrong the alternator or alternator fuse maybe?

The ground you used is probably not conducting electrical current causing the fuse add on to draw power and run the battery too low. You may have to replace your battery as well as the stress from driving around might have messed it up. Feel free to pm if u need help.

Thanks for the idea, can you give more explanation of how to pass the wire throw the fuse box??
@DoItTogether2022
@DoItTogether2022 2 года назад
Use something that isn’t sharp so you don’t damage any wires, I used a zip tie as stated in the video. Push it through slowly, until you feel the zip tie coming through the bottom. Then cut the top of the zip tie (the blocky part) so it doesn’t hang up on anything. Tape the wire you’re feeding through to the zip tie. Then pull the zip tie through with the wire. It’s pretty easy once you get into it, just take your time.

Hi, great info but it is possible for you to do a video on the part where you ran the red wire through that small opening to the fuse box? thank you in advance.

I’m using a different method of wiring now, I tapped off one of the parking light bulbs.

I can’t say for sure, sorry. I changed the way I wired the lights, I tapped off the parking light bulb so the raptor lights turn on with the parking lights instead of tuning on when the car is running.

Is it possible to have the grill lights only turn on when the fog lights come on? If so where and what fuse do I use?
@DoItTogether2022
@DoItTogether2022 8 месяцев назад
It is. Locate the hot wire going to the fog lights, and use a wire tap to connect to the raptor lights. You could use a relay also, but the raptor led lights are pretty low draw and I don’t think it’s necessary.

Good day, what ampere of your fuse using? i bought that kind of adaptor the fuse are 10 Amps
@DoItTogether2022
@DoItTogether2022 Год назад
I used a 5 amp as the lights don’t need much current. I am planning an updated video using a relay and fuse block.

Where did you attach your ground wire? I think I saw it attached to a spade and grounded under the 10mm bolt just to the top left of the fuse box?

How long do these lights last?
@DoItTogether2022

They are LED so should last a long time. Unfortunately since I’ve only had them a short while I can’t give an answer based on experience.
@DoItTogether2022
@DoItTogether2022 Год назад
Not very long if you use high pressure sprayer at car wash. High pressure sprayer will get water inside the lens and the light will be damaged.

WHY???
@snowairland

I’m not trying to ruin anyone’s fun, but what’s the point? I ask because I see cars with ultra bright unnecessary lighting which ultimately just creates unsafe road conditions for oncoming traffic.
