My push back to the comparisons between the 2019 and 2023 Ravens: 1. Better OC (Connects with team) 2. Better WRs 3. Better Defense 4. Maturity over time 5. When the team peaked Ravens are in a way better space physically and mentally. Everyone in that building is on the exact same page.

Yeah I think the whole play for the sake of playing and staying 'fresh' narrative is overblown, I'm not sure how starters playing a game where the result doesn't matter would keep them sharp.

In 2019 the Ravens' run defense was in the middle of the pack, and the Titans had Derrick Henry having an incredible year. He ran for 195 that game. I don't think the rest had as much to do with that loss as not being able to stop him from doing everything he wanted.

Lost Mark Ingram the week before playoffs. Big reason why 2019 playoffs went bad, but itll be whole different ironic if Lamar gets injured one week before playoffs in 2023.

Raven's fan here. Harbs didn't play his offense until Week 1, no preseason games, and the offense was a stumbling bumbling mess for several weeks until they found their rhythm. So this is a very tough decision. On top of placyng the Steeler who are in a must win scenario, it calls for snow Saturday. Risk injury in a meaningless game or get rusty and come out flat in the divisional game. It's a dang if they do, dang if they don't.

Would you take a rusty Lamar led ravens team or a lamarless Ravens led Lamar team. Plus I believe with Lamar experience now and better skill players and better offensive play caller this time around, I think any rust that might be there won’t be that much of an issue compared to 2019

I would think them playing 17 weeks straight, and only sitting 2 weeks vs them not playing any preseason and being off 6 months would not be the same. I wouldn’t worry to much about Lamar being Rusty

I'm far less concerned now with this team than I was about the 2019 Ravens and Lamar Jackson. He's still pissed about the Titans loss from 2019. This is a battle-tested team that has won by blowout and won close nail-biters. Let's not forget what happened earlier this season: The Ravens elected NOT to take their bye week in week 7 after playing the Titans in London. They came back stateside and had a 5 week stretch that ended with them beating the Bengals on a Thursday night, having 10 days off before traveling to the west coast to beat the Chargers, then having a bye week. So from November 17th to December 9th they only played one game. They had time to rest, heal up, and re-focus. Then they came home on December 10th, and went on a grueling run where they beat 4 playoff teams (2 on the road) to get to this point with the number 1 seed secured. It's not worth risking injury against a desperate divisional opponent. The Steelers have a great pass rush, and we don't want some fluke TJ Watt strip sack fumble to injury Lamar and jeopardize our entire season. Rest him, rest our starters, and give them time to heal. We're really banged up right now. We played Sunday without Kyle Hamilton, Brandon Stephens, Marlon Humphrey (who exited the game) amongst a host of other players. We have nothing to prove until the playoffs.

Lol...everybody can't sit, somebody has to start and play. Lamar, OBJ, Hamilton, Humphrey, Zeitler will definitely not play. Melvin Gordon will see a lot of action at runningback, if not all of the work and I wouldn't be surprised if Ricard even logged a few carries. Go Ravens!

Should play at least a series to a quarter, maybe a half at the most. Just to keep some momentum. Vary the amount of play based off of how chippy TJ watt is feeling honestly. Also, as much as Florio wants to take credit for the motivation, he didn't say "Quarterbacky".

That was a relatively young team that didn't necessarily need all that rest. This is a banged up veteran team. Certain guys absolutely need to take this week off including Hamilton, Humphrey, Zeitler, Stanley, Queen has that bad collarbone, etc... as for Lamar, it's a damned if you do damned if you don't type thing. I mean you could play him for a quarter but does that really make a big difference? To me it's more about having these guys still practicing.

The 2019 team had one weakness and it was playing from behind and having to consistently play the run on defense. They played the only team that could legitimately challenge them and it lead to the Ravens playing from behind and not being able to run their offense how they did the entire season… Lamar is the same guy, the ravens just have outside talent to match the run game

You're right except for Lamar being the same person. He's not, hes better than 2019 Lamar. Yes his ability to make plays with his feet is the same but comparing his 2019 passing game to 2023 and he's leagues better/more consistent. He's always show signs of being a great passer but he's had consistency issues until this season.

I think because the AFC North is really only beatable by othe AFC North teams, they would like to keep the Steelers out of the postseason. 3 AFC north teams in the playoffs hurts their chances a little. I think the starters may play all 4 quarters unless Baltimore goes up big by half

The difference is Flores said the line should be double digits, Chris said no. Flores said the 49ers were going to kick the sh!t out of the Ravens, Chris did not. Flores was cocky, Chris was not. Flores knows he screwed up and keeps trying to explain it away. Flores is now trying to take credit for the win. Flores is wrong on so many levels.

From what I can remember, it seems like playing your starters seems to work it out more times than not. I say play and if you have a chance to pull starters towards the end of the game, maybe do that. I think it’s hard to play and prepare football games with caution.

If they rest that makes it 3 full weeks between actually playing a game. Thats a long time, especially considering when they go into the divisional round they’re gonna be playing a team that’s coming off winning a playoff game in the wild card round so they’re gonna be playing with swagger and confidence. Thats how the Ravens lost to the Titans in 2019. I would play starters for at least a half this week.

Week 5 all over again. Steelers win by 7. Baltimore would be nuts to risk injuries just to prove a point. They are the best team in the NFL today. Lamar will win MVP, maybe a Super Bowl if they are smart about it.

The Ravens did play down to a few teams this year. SanFran went through a 3-game losing streak. Philly has fallen off a cliff. There are no undefeated teams this year. What matters, I think, is where are they at the end of the season going into the playoffs? What about each team entering the postseason makes you feel like they can make a deep run? I think the Ravens in particular, having installed a new offense this year, with several new receivers and losing Dobbins, Andrews, Mitchell on offense, took a while to gel. But they've gelled. They're hot on offense. Good defenses the last two weeks couldn't stop them at all. I don't think it's so much a matter of bulletin-board material, it's the fact that this team is simply performing at a high level. Also, if you'd have seen any interview with Lamar since they clinched a playoff spot, you'd have known that he's been talking about 2019 and how much that sticks in his crawl.

They will start all their starters, they’ll go 2 series and then that’s it. No Lamar, maybe some starters will play a whole quarter but that’s it. The coaches will decide who plays but they won’t tell those players until the game starts and then they will sub them without any notice because that’s how a real game works and these guys are expecting to be rested. They’re mature and focused, they will come to play and do work no matter how much they play.

Also, the Ravens have suffered a recent loss against the Bills in the playoffs. So they could essentially kill two birds with one stone; Rest up players and help clear the field of a nemesis at the same time.

2021 he didnt have a playoff team regardless of what their rec was they were not a playoff team and lamar did not have an offensive genius at OC that actually understands nfl caliber passing concepts... Lamar is doing now what he had always done and thats be an efficient accurate great passer of the ball that can be equally great with his legs. He just never had a playoff team. And on top of that these guys are pros that have been playing football since they were 7,8,9 years old. These guys do not get rusty aftet a week or 2 of rest with practice. Only talking heads that dont do anything physically demanding outside of tying their shoes. If they were sandals for for 3 days they get rusty tying their shoe laces and bending over to tie their shoes is now causing heart attacks and strokes... The pros dont get rusty UNLESS THEY KNOW THEY AINT GOING FAR SO THEY MENTALLY CHECK OUT... No need to risk injury over something thats so subjective...

14 teams in the playoffs. WTF??? Why not 16? All teams with the same rest, and same recovery? No. 1 plays no. 8. That is not enough of an advantage? Also 16 would mean 2 more playoff games. More revenue. More consistency and fairness. The 14 team format is just plain stupid.

The Ravens are notorious for losing after the by week as the 1 seed. Happened in 2003, 2007 and 2019. If Lamar doesn’t play, we will lose that first game. Ravens don’t do well with so much rest. Play them Squeelers and knock ‘em out

Rest everyone that needs to rest but don't play anyone that you can't afford to lose or is just coming back. Look at the Chargers last season in week 17 played Mike Williams who was battling injuries all year and he hurt his back so back in a meaningless game he couldn't even walk to the team bus

Risk vs reward. Coming out flat after resting 2 weeks vs injury. I would rest him. I am less concerned about the Ravens coming out flat than LJ getting hurt. The Ravens have no chance at a SB if LJ gets hurt.

Seems the best scenario is that the Bills beat Miami. Winning or losing to the Steelers is of no consequence and this makes Bills #2 seed which means Ravens wouldn't meet them early. I say sit most the starters. Let TJ get his DPOY stats on someone other than Lamar.

They take a week off before the super bowl. They take a month off before college football. How do they get ready to play than? Rest is never the primary reason you lose a game. Losing a Lamar, Roquan, etc would lose the game before it starts.

IMO the bye week for the #1 seed in any sport isn't an advantage at all... your first game is against a winning team who just won in the wildcard round and has full momentum. Also you have a dilemma such as this one, 97% of the time the #1 seed is locked in before the last week of the season, so then you're left with questioning whether you start your starters or not in week 18...
