He comes from a great family. His dad, Cecil was one of the earliest supporters of George Orwell and helped him tremendously in the initial part of his writing career.
I expected DDL given his prestigious acting pedigree and upbringing to be very intimidating, icy and haunting. But it appears he's actually humorous, witty, polite, eloquent and a very decent guy. Can't WAIT for his return on screen.
Omg! How do you know? Are you sure? Where did you hear it from? (Cos I heard he wasn't gonna do one for many many years as he didn't know which movie would top Lincoln).
So you're in front of Daniel Day-Lewis. One of the greatest and most reclusive actors of our time. And now you have the opportunity to ask him a question, an opportunity most can only dream about. And what do you do with this opportunity? What do you ask him? Whether his fucking beard was itchy or not...of course. In fact, almost all of these questions are incredibly stupid. Seriously, how can these people call themselves "journalists"?
Here we have one of the greatest actors of all time and the reporters ask him questions about beards, passports and drinking. It makes me wonder how these reporters get their jobs yet he handles the stupidity in the most elegant manner which is what makes him one of the greatest actors of all time.
Oh piss the hell off you pompous, pretentious dickslap. If we're not hearing about how celebrities shouldn't speak on serious issues (politics, social ills, environment, etc.), then we're getting the likes of you knocking anyone who doesn't ask them about their 'method' or did how they 'channel' so-and-so in their film. He obviously was fine with all the questions and no doubt was glad not to get some such topic that would lead to some longwinded response. This was just a quick Q&A post-award, goober, not Inside the Actor's Studio.
He's so unlike how you'd expect him to be. For someone who's incredibly intimidating on screen he seems so affable in real life. Not that I'd expect him to be overly serious anyway but still, refreshing to see he's just a regular guy.
Yes, you're right. He appears to be a very nice, fine, well-mannered man which is a farcry expected from an actor that legendary. I expected him to be very chilling and intimidating. Nice to see it's not the case. I hope to see him in new movies next year. He should definitely work with Fincher, Von Trier or Malick one day.
I love how he makes such an effort to find the questioner, make eye contact, and really establish a connection with that person (calling him or her by name if he can). He seems so affable, open, quietly articulate and funny... and this for a person with such a reputation of being reclusive.
Daniel Day Lewis is such an amazing actor. I like it that he has never been interested in the awards or money, but seems to do it purely for the art of it.
min 1:28 "Have you been able to come out of character yet?" Same dude that asked Tarantino the most idiotic batsh#t insane question when he was up. Indian dudes HILARIOUS!
1:11 Even Plainview? "I've abandoned my Broccoli! I've abandoned my Broccoli! I've abandoned my meal!" "I want to talk to you without your friend in my ear, bark, bark, bark, bark, bark." "What do you want for dinner Daniel? I am a spaghetti man."
Wow..... Your name is an indian name and you are asking this.... Truly, British not just ruled india, they also enslaved minds and hearts of indians forever....
Anybody else want to make a list of less-stupid questions? I'll start: -Mr (or Sir, now) Day-Lewis, after you won this award for My Left Foot, you said that it wasn't any particular aspect of Christy Brown that drew you to tell his story, but his life in its entirety. Do you feel that way about Abraham Lincoln?
So happy to see William, the Duke of Cambridge, dub him Sir Daniel on 11/14/14. He was so humble on the announcement, and seemed very proud and honored at the ceremony. It's a shame we have to pinch ourselves when an actor is totally serious about the work but doesn't take himself too seriously, and gives acceptance speeches that are usually brief but always articulate, gracious, and witty. He makes all those qualities refreshing, not stodgy.
@@EclipticVistaYT Nowhere near Oldman or DDL. Their sheer range, skill and versatility beats him. However, Brando was the most "influential" of all the actors because he brought naturalism on screen and commercialized it, which was actually initiated by Orson Welles - who again is arguably the greatest American actor of all time.
if he does another historical figure or a character with a disability, he will get himself a fourth best actor oscar, we all know the academy gives extra respect to people who do roles like that and he always is incredible.
He is ageing very beautifully and is pure class 💜I have had a big crush on him since the unbearable lightness..... shame about the moronic questions which he dealt with of course with grace
Daniel Day-Lewis is so humble and gracious. He is truly a decent human being. I am so glad he has been my favorite actor of all time! Love his sense of humor, too!
His Lincoln portrait stays with you long after you see the film. It's so refreshing to see someone who's so choosy about the work they do. The real triumph was when 12 Years A Slave won the Oscar this year. That film is the bookend to Lincoln, which I consider a work of art.
One of greatest minds in modern time being interviewed by bunch of clowns I mean you have time to ask this genius one question anything and they come up with them bet he was thinking in his head Christ
He's the definition of an English gentleman. Hats off, Mr. Lewis. He should be knighted by the Queen for his extraordinary contribution to acting, since he makes it harder for any other actor these days. I love the British Invasion :)
What's it like to wear a beard?? >.< these people are actually allowed to interview DDL? xD ........he's such a sweet guy though, when trying to answer stupid questions...=D
It's almost like acting is so easy for him that he doesn't understand why people are so shocked. Especially when the gentlemen ask if he has trouble breaking character, he almost is like, Yeah of course dude its not that hard for me. Greatest Actor Of All Time.
When you listen to some of the questions the press ask the winners backstage, it is very very obvious (esp. when you see the actors' reactions, like Daniel Day-Lewis' reaction to that first question about the beard) they know the questions they are asking are pretty meaningless. My guess is sometimes they know they can't think of anything pertinent to ask, but since it is THEIR JOB to ask questions and report on the answers, they think of "any little thing" they can ask.
YES I AGREE he doesnt deserve 3 oscars, he deserve 5 including in the name of the father and gangs of new york. oh wait a sec he doesnt deserve 5 he deserve 28 for all the movies that he had starred in. thank you for pointing that out.
After all the ribbing he's gotten about his extreme take on Method acting its wonderful to see that he's taking it all with such grace and humor. Also, lol beardkid-how did you even get in the press conference room???
Dear God what the hell is wrong with these interviewers??? The best actor in the whole world standing in front of you and you ask about the bothering beard? Cmon
Really I concur with everyone here. A brilliant actor wins an oscar and all you can ask is whether his beard was scratchy, is he out of character and will he go to a pub? Thank God for the ONE decent question at the end. The rest of the reporters are plain stupid and should all be fired!
He has an incredible pedigree though. His father was the British poet laureate. His mother a famous British actress and his grandfather one of the most significant film producers in British history. His sister is a famous cookery critic in the uk. He’s married to the daughter of one of americas most famous playwrights who was in turn married to Marilyn Monroe. No wonder he knows how to handle facile questions from the press. Only Ralphe Feinnes comes close with his family connections.
DDL is the most wonderful and most talented actor ever! Totally deserved all this honour! Looking forward to his next role in some years, hopefully not in too many years. Daniel, congratulations and all the best!!!
