Brother, thank you for this video. I’m 45 yrs old and have thick Puerto Rican thighs. I grew up watching and emulating fashion-forward people around my block in NYC. As I grew older, I struggled maintaining a balance of comfort and style. Of course, I always chose style. I currently own selvedge denim in slim and straight fit and both in two different sizes. Yes, total waste of money, but I’ve been uneducated in sizing for my thighs, until I stumbled upon this video, just now. Brother, again, thank you for educating this mature fashion-forward father of 3 who desperately needs to save his money. 😂!!

To think I have been waiting so many years to hear this! I blow out all of my crotches and then when I have them repeatedly repaired, deal with a rash from all of the additional fabric to keep them together.
It would just be nice for more affordable brands to offer wider fits for men who are more athletic or taller or maybe even have a bit of weight on them. Brave star and Unbranded are pretty common introductory brands for men getting into raw denim but they don't carry anything beyond a regular taper or true straight fit which often have low-medium rises and very little room up top. It's catered to thinner men 100% and it makes finding the right fit, especially since a lot of us don't have access to these products in person, harder to navigate. Me personally, I can handle slimmer fitting denim, but I appreciate pants with a wide fit, which I just haven't seen yet apart from maybe Bronson Mfg who do repros of vintage levis, or if you want to spend a bit of extra money, left field NYC, or sugar cane. Apart from that, there's nothing out there. Low rise seems to still be the trend in selvage denim and it's ridiculous.
nice video! Cheers from the east coast (new Brunswick), I've been buying raw denim for a few years and I think I'm ready to make the jump to some IH. I have fairly large thighs and butt. What fit would you recommend? For reference, I find the bravestar slim straight to be a very good fit. I've also owned other brands, Momotaros and ONI, but never really got the fit quite right.
Thanks for making this video. I have this problem as well. Question for you. I'm still a little confused about something. I bought a pair of jeans recently that seem to fit. Not too loose, not too tight in the waste and thigh area. Just how you are describing in the video. The problem I'm having is the crotch seems too tight. I can walk fine in them but when I get in my car I can really feel it pulling. I would like to get a nice pair of selvedge denim jeans but would like them to fit better. Am I looking for something bigger in the thigh or is it a different measurement I should be looking at?
You need a bigger rise, i had the same issue years back. Everything fit good but I couldn't lift my leg, i measured all my normal jeans and pants that fit really well and noticed the biggest difference was the rise and namely the back rise, jeans with a longer rise really helped me out and gave me that extra room in the crotch and butt lol its weird but definitely measure a goot fitting pair of pants you have and compare to the ones that are giving you problems
I have this issue with these new jeans i just got, they are japanese selvedged denim from Officine Générale. I am usually a waist 34 US, they fit good on the waist but unfortunately they are tight on the thigh and especially on the lower legs/tibias. I am supposed to get a 36? I don't know if they would eventually break in.
No , it just sounds like thats a cut that isn't designed and shaped for your body type , take a look at some of our other videos on how to measure so you can learn how to read a chart
@@r3dsnow757 yea thats goona depend on what the "regular cut" they make is based off. learning how to measure existing jeans and compare / read a chart is your best bet to understand what you're looking at.
Yeah my man , its an indigo dyed jacket from a brand we carry called Y2 , We bring them in about 3 times a year on pre order with a few extras each order. we have an order coming in June

What about big hips? I have 26-in thighs and pretty wide hips but my waist isn't that big and I noticed that even times when I have a good amount of room in the thigh I still don't have that great of mobility because it's so tight in the hips that it takes up all the fabric and I can't move. Any good recommendations for jeans that have a more roomy top block for big booty bros
if you have large thigh and large hip but no waist , youll want to find something that has the shape of like the old 511 that shapes almost like a womans jean with wider hips and small waist or just get the waist of your jean tailored ,
Its all really going to depend on your body type , Typically shorter dudes don't want straight leg bust because it can make your bottom half look heavier and shorter . How high should we normally be able to raise our leg in our jeans? One leg. I can raise my one leg to my chess in levis 511 stretch jeans. Should i be able to do that in raw selvedge jeans? Because i had 3 different kind of them, and none are able to do that. Is it just not gonna happen with raw selvedge jeans?
hmm well thats gonna be a tough one to answer, My first questions though would be.. what is it you're doing in jeans that requires you to raise one leg to your chest ? I just stood up and I can do it in mine , but I also wear a 50s style more loose jean, not anything close to a 511 slim cut, in slim stuff I don't know. There are a lot of different factors that could play into this. Where do you wear your jeans on your hips , do you sag so your crotch limits you .. are you skinny ? big thighs , little ..... I think basic guide line is get jeans that function in 99.9% of the situations you need them to and not the .000000000000000001% . I get a lot of people trying on leather jackets and then raising their hands in the air and say "what if I'm doing this" .. and I always say "why are you doing that ? " and they suddenly remember that 99.9999999999999999999% of the time their hands are not raised above their head like they're doing yoga or painting a ceiling. in which case, you wouldn't be wearing a leather jacket.
hmmm thats a tough one.... one option , sell em move on.. or maybe try to wear and see if you get used it it. sometimes its just a matter of having something different on than what you are used to seeing yourself in.
A tailor can adjust the waist smaller, they cant make the thighs bigger. Its most important to find jeans that fit in the seat and thigh, then pinch the waist until and if they still fit then the tailor can clip the waist an inch or two. Sometimes the seat will be a bit tighter, then size up until it feels right after pinching the waist.
the jean im wearing here is the Ironheart 1955s , thats a pretty straight cut , something like these , or the 747 from stevenson ... anything that is sort of modelled after the pre 1966 levis should work for ya.
Martin Garcia, I have large thighs and calves, plenty of choice. Iron heart 888's in my waist size fit me, I have some straight leg Samurai jeans that fit. Same with some Momotaro jeans.
Also, huge American adult men complaining that their exact repro high end Japanese flying jackets never fit... Yeah they were made for less overnourished children in the 1940's not some 230 b dude who lifts..
