Being from Minnesota and watching Anthony Edwards and almost every game he’s played in since his rookie year. I saw this coming all along. That’s why I have over 150 Anthony Edwards rookie cards.

The poster dunk over John Collins has officially made Anthony Edwards my favorite current player to watch in the NBA. I still have Kawhi Leonard at No. 1 because he plays for my Clippers. And Paul George is at No. 2. But Anthony Edwards is at No 3 and my favorite non-Clipper player right now. I think some Jordan/Kobe/DWade fans are misinterpreting what we’re saying about Ant. We’re not saying Ant is as great as them or will ever be as great as them. We’re saying he reminds us of them. He’s a combination of MJ, Kobe, DWade,and Vinsanity. MJ fans were mad 26 years ago when people were comparing Kobe to MJ. Anthony Edwards really fits that mold of exciting SGs who happens to be a highflyer while still having offensive skills without it being only dunks. The 70s through 90s were really about dunks. That was the ultimate middle finger to your defender if you can put him in a poster. Then deep, deep threes became a thing and dunks became boring. I’m glad Anthony Edwards who is a capable scorer from outside the paint is bringing that old school Air Jordan/Air Canada poster dunks back into this game considering Steph and Dame can shoot the three very deep but aren’t highflyers like Elgin, Dr. J, Skywalker, Nique, MJ, and Vinsanity were. He fits their mold. Incredible young player. He almost did the same thing to Anthony Davis last week. I say Ant, Luka, and Wemby run the league after Jokic stops winning more rings in 5 years. Jimmy Butler and Anthony Edwards are the long lost sons of Michael Jordan. Favorite Current NBA Players 1. Kawhi Leonard 2. Paul George 3. Anthony Edwards 4. Damian Lillard 5. Victor Wembanyama Another exciting player to watch if his head is right is Kyrie Irving. I know he’s a Kobe disciple but Kyrie might just be the most skilled player ever. He’s more efficient than Kobe going 50-40-90 and he probably has the sickest handles. Watch him cross Kobe and pretty much anyone in the 2012 USA practices. Steph Curry, Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving, and Anthony Edwards are all more exciting players to watch than LeBalco Shames. I think JJ Redick overstates Kobe being the face of the NBA. During the first 10 years, Iverson was more popular than Kobe. Many Jordan fans like myself hated that Kobe was compared to MJ. It was like a spit to the face of my generation’s hero, our G.O.A.T. From 2000-2004, Shaq was the more valuable player on the Lakers. Tim Duncan won MVPs in 2002 & 2003. Then LeBron entered the NBA and he was on par to Kobe by 2006 going 31-7-7. DWade was very exciting to watch from 2003-2006 the way Vince Carter was more exciting to watch than Kobe from 1998-2001. If Kobe was the face of the league, it wasn’t very long like for an entire decade the way Magic and MJ were. And Kobe didn’t open up to people until around 2008 when he turned 30. Kobe was more of an aloof during his early years. A lone wolf in the locker room for being the youngest. Shaq was the life of the party among his teammates during that Lakers threepeat. Kobe won 1 MVP because he was never a media darling. Him as the face of the NBA is more revisionist history the way people now praise the Star Wars Prequels or the Nintendo GameCube since Kobe became more likable after he dropped 60 in his final game and after he passed away. When hatred during those times turns into nostalgia which then turns into revisionist history.

While I appreciate your enthusiasm for Anthony Edwards and your detailed analysis of NBA history, I respectfully disagree with your assessment that Edwards is reminiscent of legendary players like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Dwyane Wade. Comparing Edwards to such iconic figures seems premature and perhaps overly optimistic. Firstly, it's essential to recognize the distinction between drawing parallels and making direct comparisons. While Edwards may share certain stylistic traits with players like Jordan, Kobe, and Wade, it's a considerable leap to suggest that he embodies a combination of all their qualities. These players achieved greatness over years of consistent performance, whereas Edwards is still in the early stages of his career. Moreover, attributing Edwards as the torchbearer of "old school" poster dunks overlooks the fact that the NBA has evolved significantly since the eras of Jordan, Dr. J, and Vince Carter. Today's game emphasizes three-point shooting, versatility, and athleticism in different ways than it did in the past. While Edwards's athleticism is undeniable, it remains to be seen whether he can sustainably impact the game in the same manner as the legends you mentioned. Regarding your evaluation of Kobe Bryant's legacy, it's important to acknowledge his enduring impact on the NBA, both on and off the court. While Kobe may not have been as universally beloved during his playing days as he became later in his career, his influence cannot be denied. From his five championships to his scoring prowess and competitive spirit, Kobe left an indelible mark on the league that extends beyond mere statistics or MVP awards. In conclusion, while Anthony Edwards shows promise as an exciting young player in the NBA, it's premature to place him on the same pedestal as icons like Jordan, Kobe, or Wade. Let's allow him the opportunity to develop his game and carve out his own legacy before making such lofty comparisons.

There’s this sick poster dunk Michael Jordan had over Patrick Ewing. It’s not the famous one in 1991 when Mike spins baseline. Or when he barks at Ewing after he did it. I think it happened in the 80s. It was sick. People should try to find it on RU-vid. MJ moved with speed and force when he dunked it on Pat. Westbrook when he was still on the Lakers did a ferocious dunk on Gobert a couple years back. The Ant dunk isn’t technically a dunk. Think Blake Griffin at what he did to Mosgov and Kendrick Perkins over here. Then again, Dwight won a dunk contest wearing a Superman cape when he didn’t really slam it home with his hands touching the rim. It was more of a throw down than a dunk. What’s scary is I believe Ant will have many more dunks like this in the future. He’s only getting started. He might put so much fear against rim protectors that the paint will clear out for him because those defenders don’t want to be part of a poster/meme. Again, Ant almost did this to AD last week. Ant might catch him the next time they meet. Ant is going to have more poster dunks for AD, Giannis, Wemby, Embiid, and Jokić. He’s young Jordan in the 80s, Air Canada from 1998-2001, and young DWade from 2003-2006. I wish Ant would participate in the dunk contest but he said last year he doesn’t want to.

@samwilcox10 2 месяца назад
@sirrmanning2769 hey and that's fair to have that opinion no doubt! I guess I'm looking at it like this is the closest playstyle to MJ. He plays defense just as well as his offensive play. He is aggressive and his motor never stops and no injury unless it literally forces him to stop keeps him off the court. I also look at how many players current and retired have compared him to MJ. He's obviously not as good as who we know of MJ today. But there's a difference between how we viewed Tom Brady before his first super bowl and after his last. He wasn't the goat at all yet and people thought other QBs like Peyton Manning or drew Brees Brett Favre etc were better

@hottakes2633 if you've noticed that's been slowly changing around mid way thru this season. He really has worked on his 3 point shooting this year which has elevated his entire game

No one is saying ant is as good as Jordan. What they say, is he reminds us of him. They don’t play basketball the same way. What ant does, is he hangs in the air, and has the same kind of jaw dropping athleticism as mj. We haven’t seen a lot of players who can turn their bodies in mid air, and have had the core strength and control to pull off some of the jaw dropping athletic moments as these two. And beyond just that, it’s ants swagger and demeanor. His fearless attitude to the game. His rawness, energy, and just straight up aura. Maybe ant gets to mjs level years from now. Probably not, but it’s not an insult to his airness to compare ant to him. It means that Michael Jordan is the bar, and that’s what Anthony Edwards can one day be.
