I'm considering a GS and adventure riding currently and this video was extremely helpful in helping gauge the add-ons I'll need to outfit the bike to prepare for this sport. One suggestion to the producer would be to include associated costs. Now I'll go online and try to figure that out. I'm guessing another $2-3k. thanks for the great video!

If it was me, I would get a piece of lexan and cut it to fit OVER that headlight grille (bolt it on where the grille bolts on). Because you KNOW there's going to be a rock that fits through that grille and breaks something. I would cut a few just for later on.

The Twisted Throttle catalog is free. I believe they may have Tour a Tech products in it.

I totaled my 1200 GS last year, it flew through the air, no other vehicle involved, and it was the engine guards that broke off and totaled my bike, otherwise it looked great. Soft panniers? Pros and Cons to this. If you're traveling in a "not so safe country" like Chicago (ha), Mexico, Honduras, south of Spain, then hard panniers are the way to go. A sharp knife and the soft bags are someone's pillow.

GS1200s dont use conventional forks. They use a front single shock and spring for suspension. Easier to see than to describe, but very simple and easy to modify.

Accessories are essential for anyone on the GS - what I call the "World Bike". I've recorded a "Tribute to BMW R1200GS" video since I'm upgrading to the newer GS now, and you can watch on my RU-vid page to see more. Hope you all enjoy it! Just click my username to see more and let me know what you think! (Lots of dollars producing this one, so enjoy and share!:-)

Stephan M, the presenter specifically mentioned that the hard beefy aluminum cases will help support the bike if you tip over and protect your leg. Soft panniers might be nice for packing stuff in, but I don't see how they could really be any better than the hard ones for that purpose, just different. Unless they have a ton of stuff in them, I don't see them protecting my leg. Happy new year to real bikers? Fake bikers are the ones without helmets, is that a fake biker, just wondering who's fake

75% of bikers say soft panniers are best , you are working for rawhide so you will say what they tell you to say. Advice for all the real bikers out there shop around and you can buy all the stuff this guy is talking about at half the price . . Rawhide and Touratech charge well over the top , look at what happened to Hein gericke they have closed 75% of their shops in the uk because their prices are a joke . P.S . rubber side down , happy new year to all the real bikers out there .

...and he left out the most IMPORTANT tool... Rider ability off road; gravel, and sand will get you down on these big bikes-trust me, I am a noob on the dirt!

If those bikes have so many weak points and "cost a lot of money" why BMW doesn't protect them with a better design?

If everybody could make skid plates, guards etc like you say you can do, then they would now wouldnt they? You mention cost and not being able to afford this stuff? Well, some people might make more than you, or maybe they put off the big screen Television as they would rather make their bike more durable. Soft luggage when wiping out? No thanks. Ride safe.

this guy makes me laugh ha ha ha . He talks the talk but at the end of the day can the normal biker afford all the crap he wants you to buy ?? answer = no ..... Half the stuff he tells you to buy you can make yourself , i did it so you can do it , trust me . Metal panniers are dangerous if you come off your bike you will slide and slide its better to have soft luggage ?? think about it . He is trying to sell you things and get your money , stick to the basics any bike can go RTW
