I fell in love with Ray Brown's bass playing at age 12. The secret to his playing? "Get a good sound! Play in tune!" That's it! Sounds simple, but it's not. Not at his level. What he doesn't mention is playing the right notes, and listening to those around you. He was the best.
Wow! These guys are ridiculously Good! Ray Brown will always be my favorite Bassist. What touch! What feel! What timing! What taste! Ray Brown Trio = my favorite jazz trio of all time. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
Wow, supergroup. Benny's one of those "beyond" talents. What incredible, swinging and ferocious hands. Plus he's one of the kindest guys out there today.
This is that "grown man music".....can't explain it....just groove with it.....3 legends, gettin it in.....Benny is a beast on the piano........another legend from Berkeley High's jazz ensemble, just like Joshua Redman......
@@dynasticlight8706 I have....many times....not too many horn players I haven't heard....I'm very passionate about jazz....I'm still trying to figure out if he's a relative....my favorite trumpet players are (in no order) Miles, Dizzy, Morgan, Brown, Hubbard, Hargrove, Armstrong, Shaw, Marsalis....so many others, so I'll stop there
Wow, what a performance ! This is what no AI "Deep Thought" can hope to match : Benny's interpretations and playing (what hands!) and the trio's immaculate synchronisation is just superb. Many thanks for sharing.
I caught these guys at Yoshi's in Oakland around this time. How awesome to see the legend Ray Brown with the up and coming Benny Green! I'll never forget it.
Benny Green is fantastic pianist in the world, Greg Hutchinson is a monster of a drummer. Ray Brown is a Bass God, and the greatest bassist ever lived, he influence me to become a Upright Double Bass player. R. I. P. Ray Brown and Ella Fitzgerald Brown, they are together again. Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Brown were married from 1947 - 1953
@@giuseppecucchiarajazz Thanks for putting up this video of Ray Brown, I ever got see him play live😞. I wonder if Ray Brown is using Thomastik Spircore Weich strings Medium or Light Gage? Do you have the Ray Brown Bass Methods Essential Scales, Patterns and Exercises book . Hal Leonard Books? Fantastic book!! Great Exercises for the brain 🧠!!
Luckily I have many CDs related to that period .... that's where I "met" Benny Green ...... now I also have the opportunity to "see" the concerts .... Thanks!
Do you know the list of standards they played? Brilliant music, hearing Ray's tone always makes me wish to get back into playing jazz. You can hear the years of experience behind every single note he plucks. Would love to work on some of these, thank you for sharing ♥️
Swingin' soooo hard.....they was SWANGIN'!!!!! These three cats were a tremendous FORCE MULTIPLIER on that stage and had the audience in the palms of their hands!!! WOWSERRRRRR!
Ray was the husband of my cousin, Ella Fitzgerald.... he's partially responsible for my picking up the bass... I play electric, but I noticed in the bass world, jazz bassists are egotistical like a mugg!😅 The only one I know of that exhibits humility was Ron Carter...lol... (Ray was something else tho!), Oh and Oscar Pettiford, my dad was besties with his son in high school and they kept up the relationship til I was 15-16. I never met him, but his wife told me a lot about him (she made the BEST chocolate chip cookies eeeeever! 😊)...
