Cliff Burton's father Ray Burton speaks about his son during the first of four Metallica 30th birthday concerts. Recorded live @ The Fillmore in San Francisco, California on December 5th, 2011.
Here's Cliff's Dad, trying to share some stories about the band and his late son, and you would think that they would have shut the F**K UP for 5 minutes out of respect, for one being an elder of the community & two, out of respect for Cliff. It just pisses me off how they couldn't give that to Mr Burton.
Its remarkable how supportive he still is of the band. I'm sure Metallica meant the world to Cliff, so it would mean the world to his father too in a way. That's how I see it at least.
Mr. Burton should have been in show business himself. A truly warmhearted individual. Unlike other parents who grew up in the pre-rock era and were often against the format, Mr. Burton seems to have embraced & gave Cliff |& the boys his full support.
Not that I've really seen many negative comments in this thread, but seriously; how could anybody NOT love Ray Burton? What an extraordinary person. R.I.P Cliff and long live Ray!
Dam the pain this man has gone through. Not only do you lose your son, but your son died in his prime just when they were taking off. The way he died was such bullshit. You gotta see everyone else have fun & see their dreams come true. The strength it takes to keep living & smiling not only for the band but for your sons fans is truly amazing!
Mr burton is awesome... Lost my son two years ago, and it's hard to talk as a parent about your chil who is gone without breaking up and loosing it. Mr burton your a class act!!!
Dear Mr Ray Burton Your Son Cliff was one awesome Bass player and although he has been gone almost 30 years his memory and music contrbution to Metallica lives on.
It sucks that he is gone. Some people give off good vibes and Mr. Ray Burton was one of them. You could tell that he was a very down to earth, humble and kind man. It sucks that he had to endure so much loss and heartbreak in his lifetime. Yet, he smiled and stayed tough throughout it. Much respect.
I don't think James is quite as wise to Mr. Burton's words as his age should have him be. Maybe in another 30 years he'll realize how lucky he actually was.
No, I would say he started his speech stressing the fact that the others were luckier than his son to have survived the accident without a scratch. He doesn't blame Kirk, but when he mentions the luck, he goes towards Kirk touching his back (probably he's aware that Kirk should have been on Cliff's bed in that bus)
At the beginning of his speech, Ray mentions the luck of Cliff's companions, especially towards Kirk Hammet: infact, according to Kirk himself, he should have been in Cliff's bed that night when the bus turned and killed Cliff. Notice James' face when Ray says that and notice also how James asks him to change subject
thank you ray your son touch so many of us in so many ways we all will never be able to thank you so much . for raisinga great son and i just wish like you and cliff's mother and the family he was still with us all . but some day that will be true again .
