It's funny they laughed at the "...in the fridge?" comment. Me and friend escaped arrest for that very reason. We kept a Tupperware of weed in the fridge. A cop opened the fridge door, looked inside quick, and closed it. Meanwhile, they were tearing up the apartment, the cupboards, everything, and our weed slept undisturbed. Actually, we did get arrested for paraphernalia; we had a huge bong with enough resin to test. But we dodged a bigger bullet!

As soon as he said "the inner jew came out" I was on the floor dying.

Lived 5 blocks away. I went to see Metallica play in SF with Cliff and his mom to see them at the Kabuki Theatre in SF 1985 with Armoured Saint backstage. My old band Social Unrest used to rehearse next to them. They would take a break and come drink beer in our room. Our drummers mom and Cliffs mom were both moms. Ha. No. They were best friends.

There's another great story about Cliff when the band had to cross into East Germany briefly. (Back then Germany was still communist controlled in the east). And the border guards in East Germany weren't quite as lenient as other countries. They boarded the bus with those huge German Shepard to look around and cliff had a massive ball of, I think hash, and he ended up eating the whole thing right then and there to avoid capture lol. Luckily they had a couple off days because cliff was to the moon for a while.

I've heard this story about 5 or 6 times. Never gets old.

If you ever get a chance to hear him and Kirk Hammett tell this story and the Metallica Anniversary show at the Fillmore do it it's brilliant. Because Kirk was in the apartment when the cops arrived with Cliff. They search for a few minutes then leave with Cliff, and Kirk is so confused about what just happened.
