I'm learning this piece at the moment and I was a bit proud of how I played it, I thought it sounded pretty ok. And then I came here and I realised that I actually sound like crap haha. He just has such an incredible quality of sound and he makes it look easy to play violin because there are never really any bits where it sounds scrappy and bad (apart from the audio freaking out but that's not Ray's playing).
If you think you don't measure up to this performance then listen to Maxim Wengerov play it and weep. His performances literally move me to tears. They are sublime.
Just listening a few seconds of your tone production makes me understand how you could snag the 1st prize in the Queen Elisabeth. Very sweet and wonderful sound. You will have a very long and prosperous career.
So moved by this performance - if you close your eyes and just listen you can feel the all the emotions being poured into this piece. Thanks Ray and Julio for reawakening my passion for classical music and making me feel alive!
Your tone quality is amazing! I love your interpretation--I've never seen the bowings you're using before and they work really well! I'll have to try them out sometime.

I really didn't like this piece because it was played at my middle school everyday (with who knows what version and crappy speakers). Only after this video do I get the beauty of it
Vanilla Ice whatever this was filmed with is horrible (in terms of quality). So if you really felt bliss through that, it just goes to show how well they can play lol.

Ray, I enjoy your fantastic talent on the violin, but I also enjoy seeing your wonderful personality shining through in the other videos of your travels and of teaching students. I hope you don't mind having a grandmotherly-type as a fan.
My last comment was 2 months ago and inspired by TwoSet, I've now started playing the violin! To be able to sight read(!) and play this piece (which is one of my absolute favourites) is one aim and to crystallize that intention am about to order the sheet music. Yes, I know I'm looking at 20 odd years down the line but I know the power of dreams! P.S. My sister is a pianist so mebee even the 2 of us together?
@@cke900 Thanks for asking. Slow but steady I could say. Working on 2nd finger notes which are a bit of a hit 'n' miss affair and finding I can't focus on sight reading, bowing, fingering and timing all at the same time! Am taking a step back over Christmas just to get my bowing straight and fingering accurate while standing in front of a mirror! Then 3rd/4th finger in the New Year. Hugely challenging but hey...
