For my fellow Southeast Asia country, here's the little thing you should know. Raya is Indonesian/malaysian. Tuktuk armadillo is Thailand. Martial art is mix, but we can see here in the trailer is Philippines. The architecture is Cambodia/Angkor Wat. The costume is Vietnam/Laos. It's literally just a MELTING POT of Southeast Asia culture.

Raya is the most badass disney princess period.

I love how badass Raya is compared to the other Disney princesses. There’s no kiddie love story, it has a great adventure type feel to it, not to mention amazinggg fighting scenes. I thought moana was amazing when it first came out, this is even better 11/10 Raya is the best Disney move by far!!!

I watched this movie today and I legit cried at the end omg, never cried to a movie before.

Everything is so THAI 0:14 it’s the roof of Thai temple. Kanok pattern on the roof you can see many Thai temple are that such as The Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Phrakeaw) 0:31 Tuk tuk have become one of Bangkok's most recognisable transportation features and are still popular among tourists and visitors. 1:11 it’s a Giant mask from Thai-Culture. You can see Giant when you at Suvarnabhumi airport and Many Thai temple. 1:32 Thai people worship the dragon(Thai name is Praya Naga). Many Lakorn (Thai television soap opera) are based on A Praya Naga legend such as Nakee in 2016, Manisawat in 2013, Poot mae nam khong in 2008 For a Thai people. You know that this is the first original animated movie from Disney in the last 4 YEARS? Frozen 2 and Ralph were sequels. Meanwhile, there have been like 7 remakes. I want Disney to return to its roots.

This is a disney princess movie. You know how I know? ANIMAL SIDEKICK.

While everyone is talking about Avatar and stuff, let me breakdown some cultural stuff I didn't miss: 1.) She uses arnis as a weapon, Arnis is commonly National Martial Arts of the Philippines. 2.) The intro of Disney shows a place in a rock; it represents Sigiriya Rock in Sri Lanka. 3.) When she jumped out of a house, the houses were designed in Thailand's traditional houses. 4.) The Villain's mask is called Raksasa Mask from Bali, Indonesia. 5.) The Sword of the villain and the sword that Raya pulled are designed from Indonesia's sword. 6.) I have theory in the tribes; the yellow tribe is Indonesian or Malaysian the purple tribe is Philippine or Malaysian the green tribe is maybe Thai because of the Elephants or Cambodian because of the advance weaponry the white tribe is Thai because of the Dholes, clothes, and the swords 7.) Raya's clothes are Vietnamese traditional clothing.

Wow, a trailer that doesn't explain the whole plot or show anything from the second or third act? Am I dreaming? This is the kind of trailer we need more of. Unfortunately all that good will goes out the window when you see the newest trailer they released, though it still does a relatively good job of holding back the story elements. It has footage from the tail end of the film, though, which I still don't like (even when there isn't much context). It's all too easy for them to slip a clip in there that will ruin a story beat. Like, "Wait, this character died in the movie, but I remember seeing them in a final battle in the trailer..." takes away from the emotional impact that "death" may have had. That's not something that happened in this movie, it's just an example. Anyways. I love this trailer.

I love this movie, song and everything. 🥳🥳🥳 I watched this movie today and I legit cried at the end ...omg. This is a masterpiece. 😍It is so breathtaking and a lot of lessons learned. One of Disney’s best. ❤️❤️ I loved every minute of it. Thank you so much Disney for giving us beautiful movies like this. ❤️❤️ When I lost hope, Raya and the Last Dragon became a hope for me. 🔥🔥🔥

Finally! Inspired from the entire South East Asia... Philippines - Arnis (2 sticks weapon) Vietnam - Hat (Philippinese it's Salakot, same design) Thailand - The name of her ride, Tuktuk. Cambodia - Angkor Wat (Temple) Malaysia - The writer of the movie The Dragon could be the mix of Malaysian, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Filipino mythology (Bakunawa in Philippines, is depicted with a characteristic looped tail and a single horn on the nose. It was generally believed to be a sea serpent, but are also variously believed to inhabit either the sky or the underworld (sea). Base on the drawing it looks like Bakunawa, technically the entire South East Asia shares the same thing, witb only few differences. The rooftop at the beginning looks like combination of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand architecture Let me check for more lol

Did yall know that the screenwriters are malaysian and vietnamese? "Disney created Kumandra, a fictional land that is inspired by Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia. The animation team actually traveled to the latter four countries for research purposes" I think they also included phillipines influence in this with the arnis and salakot. Also with the moro sword/keris/kalis which can be found in phillipines,malaysia,brunei and indonesia. I'm glad they did proper research Also her attire is inspired by kadazan and iban community which is a minority race/ethnicity in Malaysia! Although i personally don't see any concrete resemblance.Like you all said,the first thing that comes to mind is not asian attire but korra's outfit.That shows how it is lacking in represention. I also liked that the characters have a some range of colours as how it is in ASEAN countries. Another fun fact: Raya means greatness in malaysian & indonesian.It seems that many malaysians are unaware of this and only thought raya as a celebration (selamat hari raya). Edit: 1.No i didn't mean to write asian.I really did meant ASEAN which stands for association of south east nation. 2.Thanks to those who corrected any misinformation about keris and other things that i said. 3.I also don't expect perfect representation of SEA in this movie BUT it's still a good exposure.I doubt there can be too many mistakes they can possibly make while working with SEA screenwriters and adequate research. 4.Also with the salakot,there's no point in claiming it.Nearly all asian countries have that hat.

I think the name "Tuk Tuk" comes from when Raya taps Tuk Tuk's shell, it makes a "tuk tuk" sort of sound. Its in the first few minutes of the movie, right after she says his name for the first time.

Disney really said “Lets make a movie where we mix Avatar : Last Airbender and The Dragon Prince and just slap our animation style on it”

This teaser trailer far exceeds the official trailer itself! The music, the synchronisation, the suspense, everything is just perfect.

Imagine being a tribe who wears purple, the hardest to color to get in the past. So rare it wasn't even an option to flags. Those people are rich Edit: I know is a fictional world, but we're taking about Disney guys. Colors matter when were taking about character design, and this *might* be an important detail.

Another thing I love is that this is based of Southeast Asia, really shows how beautiful our culture can be. (One of the)Moral of the Story: Japan, China and Korea aren't the only countries in asia.

Just watched the movie and it was amazing! You did a great job Disney. I've been noticing that half of the comments section is about Sisu-Elsa or Sisu and some random My little pony connection. Spoiler Alert: Sisu is a water dragon ( If you haven't known) and she wasn't the creator of the dragon gem (the bluish orb) Have a great day ahead!
