Often called "The best platformer that isn't Mario", Rayman's a game that'll fill your eyes with color, and your mind with rage. NitroRad on Facebook: NitroRadOfficial
Marc Cox hell just download epsxe and your PC becomes a PlayStation. it can even read the disk from the drive with no need for illegal downloading of games.
Marc Cox Doesn't work. The music does appear, but they're unavailable. On a website, I heard that you're actually not supposed to insert any disc, to get to the menu where it says "Memory Card" and "CD Player". From there, choose "CD Player", then insert the disc. Hope this helped anyone.
Yea I don't know why I honestly never questioned why the world map looked so obscured like that. Now that I know the intention it makes me feel really stupid lmao
The gameboy advance version was really weird with the soundtrack honestly Mr. Dark's theme played sometimes in situations where there wasn't even a boss for example
If you think about it, Rayman never had to run before the events of the game because he had such a nice and relaxed life. In this sense you might think that because of Mr Dark Rayman's schedule will be worse from now forward since he can do things faster he'll try and do more things y'know? I don't think he'll be relaxing in hammocks anymore. maybe i'm just overthinking it.
@@sirrayman1134 Rayman origins takes place after the first rayman it was intended to be before the first game but they scrapped that idea. i think it takes place after rayman 3
@@user-Insane_Ails It's confirmed that a 3D Rayman 4 is happening after Beyond Good And Evil 2, so now it's left in the air how canon Origins and Legends are.
@@TritnewNG hmm,I dunno what to think about 3d Rayman,I mean I only played a little of rayman 3 and liked it but I absolutely love Rayman Origins,it was my childhood basically,I have never played rayman 1 and 2 tho
@@junpei6180 Rayman 1 is difficult, but has gorgeous art, and Rayman 2 is dark, but a lot fair in difficulty and overall pretty fun, Rayman 3 and Origins are my personal favorites though.
@@littleman7514 Well yes, but not as a playable character which is what I think everyone wants. If he was, I can imagine what his abilities could potentially be in Smash. His standards could be basic punches and kicks, his charge attacks winding up and throwing his punches farther, his grabs could have a longer reach, neutral special could be throwing energy orbs in Rayman 2, side special shell ride in Rayman 2, up special copter hair, down special uprooting a purple plum and throwing it, and final smash Rayman just jamming it out in that rock concert in Rayman Legends while everyone else gets burned up. Of course, anyone is free to suggest better ideas if they'd like.
Yeah, maybe the design of some levels wasn't really the greatest, from what I could gather. It doesn't help that the difficulty curve feels more like a difficulty Everest, and it stays there.
Are you sure you’re not saying that because you’re just really good at the game? And by the way, were you playing just by yourself all the way through, or with another person in co-op?
As a Rayman expert, I have to correct a few things: -Gold Fist alone does not extend your range. However, getting Gold Fist and Speed Fist will do so. You can get them separately or if you're lucky there are a couple powerups that will offer both at once. -The health bonus will last until you die. It increases your maximum health until you die, not until you run below three. You can see in the video itself that you had 1/5 health before dying, which resets back to 3/3 when dead. -Cage progress does not affect Betilla giving you powers. It's only level progression. Fun fact: The game's design makes Mr. Sax an optional boss; all the cages are in the first zone. Learned that from a speedrunner.
Mr. Streetwize OOPS, yeah I was wrong about the gold pickup, I didn't realize there were two seperate ones. Also I said "until you take enough hits to make it go back down to where it was before". I showed the clip of me dying as I said that to show that enough hits to die is what does it. I probably should have re-recorded the line to make it more clear instead of just showing the gameplay though so WHOOPS.
NitroRad It's all good. And not a problem.I guess people would be confused because you used Mario Galaxy as an example where you'd have to pick up the power up again if it drops below 3, not dissimilar to Spider-Man's spider armor on the PSX.
I completely lack the skill to get pass bandland and to wish there was unlimited lives or continues like Rayman orgins/legend but I do still like the game ,it has a beautiful art style and I gotta "get gud"
i absolutely ADORE the art design, backgrounds, characters, music, animation in this game! Sucks it was never used again apart from the amazing looking Rayman 2 BETA
electricmastro Didn't even bother mentioning that because Did You Know Gaming talked about it. Even though they got the fact slightly incorrect, calling purple "the color of death" in Japan.
No one ever mention Rayman brain games. That was my first exposure to the rayman series. It's basically in the style of rayman 1 with different types of subjects like English, math, spelling etc.
Wait, edutainment with Rayman? o.O Never heard of it. :p Was it actually good? I'm sure it might be kind of obscure to most people. I remember liking the more original edutainment games at least, I was all into the Humungous Games like Putt-Putt, Pajama Sam, Freddi Fish, Spy Fox, etc. (Was there only 4 franchises? Can't remember... Pajama Sam 1-2 were my favorite, maybe 3. :p). (Okay, maybe some aren't edutainment, just sort of preschool. XD) Also, Treasure Math Storm, yeah! XD I also liked Madeline, or at least the one where she explores Europe. ^^; Yeah. :p There was way more though which is weird considering how I played a bajillion more actual games too in my life, let alone as a kid... Some blue fly guy, Fatty Bear, oh yeah, Math Blaster (mainly had Jr., wish I had the harder ones I played in school but meh. :p), er... damn, so many, idk. :p
When your own mother calls you a thingamajig, you know your species is unknown Detailed and fair review as usual. I myself grew up with Rayman on the PC. Looking forward to the rest of this trilogy of review, my favorite has always been Rayman 3
@@Barakon I know it's kinda controversial and "Raypeople" seems to be more common, but I did always consider thingamajig to be the name of the species. It's fun! It's goofy!
In Rayman 2: The Great Escape we first see him in a cell - he was captured by the pirates. Unless he was sleeping in the cell and Globox being thrown in woke him up, but I don't know.
I feel like Mario galaxy not only got Raymans extra health 13:20 but also dark rayman, which are just cosmic cyclones. Rayman truly was ahead of its time
great review, Rayman was the toughest platformer I've played in the 90's and I still remember that dissapointment after beating all the main levels only to find out I cant go anywhere until I free those damn Electoons :( The first game I gave up on.
Me too man, me too. But I decided to beat this game once and for all, 10 years later. Still had my old save file and I only need to find 8 more cages until I can access all the levels. sweet, sweet sweet childhood satisfaction.
As a kid I thought Rayman was a rabbit as I grew with Rayman 1,2 and origins.I thought his two strands of hair were ears for the first 6 years of my life.
When I was a kid this was the game I got with my PS1... what an introduction to this next gen system... a beautiful platformer that kicked my arse time and time again
I was waiting for this review, this game is very close to my heart, especially, for some reason, for the soundtrack, maybe because i could hear it just by putting the rayman disc in the stereo. For me "Eat at Joe´s" was a nightmare tough.
I've been seeing your videos in my feed for the past few days since I looked up Ty the Tasmanian Tiger for nostalgia's sake, and I gotta say you're really entertaining and funny. Keep up the great work!
Your pronunciation of "Montpellier" sounds so funny to the native French speaker that I am ! Great review, brings back so many memories. The soundtrack of this game was insanely good.
The first game I played ever in my life, back in 2003. Thank you for the review! Sadly we sold it years ago, but emulators exist 🙌🏻 I thought I knew a lot about 1, but I didn't know that so so many versions existed 😂😂😂
This is the video that introduced me to Nitro Rad, I've been a fan ever since. It's cool to see how his style has evolved over the last few years. Happy 5th anniversary my fellow Canadian!
This content is so good! You deserve alot more subs! I played Rayman 1 and 2 as a child also, aprox. 3-8 years Also Rayman 3 later on. All games are awesome and bring back so many nostalgic feelings
This was one of my first video games. Actually, I think it was either this, Hercules or Sonic 3 (all on the computer). I remember every inch of every level, & used to “work out” by holding weights, walking on the back of our couch & balancing while the soundtrack played (if you put some games in CD players, the soundtracks would play). I remember finally beating, after like...3 years. Fuck those bugs.
Dude, awesome review! I've always loved this game but was never able to beat it, I never knew about the 99 lives cheat and now I'm actually able to beat this game! Also great production values, facts (talking about other ports), and funny humor without being too over the top. Very cool video!
I really wanted to love this game. I REALLY did. I played the first few levels quite a bit when I was little. The gameplay, art style, music, and level design were top notch. Coming back to it however, the fact that you had to find all the cages just to gain access to the final level just made the game an absolute chore. A lot of these cages either can't be accessed until you get a certain power or hidden in such a way you have to touch a specific spot on the map to make them appear somewhere else. In the former case, you have to go through Bongo Hills, which was already a long and tough level on it's own at least twice in order to complete the game. And considering how few lives and continues you can get, it lead to a lot of frustration. In the latter case, at some points, the devs decide to be dicks and make it so that a cage appears RIGHT before you tough a "!" sign. If they made it so that you only needed a portion of the cages to proceed, I wouldn't have a problem with this. I would gladly except how crazy difficult these levels can be. But having to revisit levels and search for these cages just sucked the fun out of it all.
Rayman, he has been with me ever since the PS1. This was the first one I've played and 2 was my first Rayman game (my brother owned the first game). Glad to see another Rayman fan talking about these games. I look forward to the next review :)
Rayman 2, hooray! Are you going to do Rayman 3 as well? The Rayman-games (yes, all of them) are some of my favourite platormers of their respective eras.
OmegaMetroid93 Yep, I'll be doing the whole trilogy. Might talk about Raving Rabbids and Origins/Legends some day, but for now I'm just doing the original Rayman trilogy.
So Rayman was the first AAA Mario maker. They should make a level editor for Rayman Legends. Rayman 2 and 3 were the best though, I really hope we get him in Smash.
You were really good I just assumed you were too young to be as good as you are today but this was my favorite nitrorad video great job dude I enjoyed that review
I still play Rayman in my 20's and I'm immediately 6yrs old again whenever I boot it up. Always feels like a great colourful adventure to embark on ^_^..... even tho, by the last few levels, I'm usually screaming at the BOTTOMLESS PITS AND ENDLESS SPIKES! (OMG Those Art and Cave Levels?! Holy Santa Claus Shit! I wanna kill somebody!) So glad I've memorised the password to unlock all the stages with 99 Lives AND all the abilities, it's literally hardwired into my mind from childhood *(cough)* NW?WD15!4Q *(cough)* xD ....Anyway, LOVED this review, Subscrurbed! :D
If you get the PC version, I recomend also getting Rayman Optimum, it fixes the soundtrack, adjusts the graphics and generally makes the game more playable.
This was my 1st PlayStation game along with Rapid Reload. I played RayMan 1st and was blown away by how amazing it looked. 1996 was a great year for me for sure :)
Hey! Amazing review. Rayman is one of my favourite franchises and one of my favourite characters as well. But what about "Rayman Educational Software"? That's another cool version of the game on PS1, made for kids, to help them on their basic education, but is quite difficult too. O.o I have a copy of that version. After watching your 3 videos about the 3 first Raymans, I see you are an incredible reviewer, paying attention to every detail. Subscribed! ;)
Ahhh I never noticed that about Mario and Luigi's colours being opposite! So cool, also noticed that Wario and Waluigi's colours are opposite on the scale too 👌🏻
Really good review overall. You described everything about the original Rayman really well. My only minor criticism is the justification of the 99 live code. You don't know the real hell Rayman has to offer when you go through the last few levels with only 5 or 6 lives. It's easier if you use the code system because lives respawn. I used to grind like 10 of them before each level.
Will You be reviewing “Rayman Redemption”? Considering Your Love for the series, I’d Be great to see what that Game improves &/or Fixes the First game & Do a comparison between scenes & Fights from this Fangame & the original.
I remember getting to Band Land as a kid and never getting past that not only because my lack of a memory card but the insane difficulty. Ahh, memories...
It feels sad seeing these youtubers like PBG, Angry Joe and let's players having fun, doing stuff, being open and optimistic and never being like typical teenagers. While the old class mates I had over 10 years ago has chosen to be non serious jerks and one was a literal DICK head. Every single question he asked was either about masturbation or about dirty stuff. Asking a simple question like who H.P. Lovecraft was he would reply: he was a horny man. Every.single.response and their word variation and dictionary variation was less than water in the desert. Something dirty, they knew only ONE word for it and that's all they ever used. I never want to encounter them randomly again, I can't stand voluntarily acting and being stupid or retarded. Trying to be friendly and striking up a comfortable and normal conversation was like trying to save a harmed frightened skunk. You have good intentions and be a nice person but all you will get back is an awful stench back that lingers long after it's gone. Why can't people have more open minded sense of humor without anything vulgar or disgusting involved at all
