Raymarine Axiom Install - SeatalkNG to Seatalk1 and sharing data via SignalK

In this video, we get the Axiom installed on our boat and connect it to the NMEA 2000 network via a Seatalk NG to Seatalk 1 converter. We also get the SignalK data over to the Axiom so we can now see engine and battery data. We take a look at how the AIS works and what options we have and generally get used to this new device.

Hi, which path are you using from signalk to display the battery voltage on the Axiom dashboard display? I’m not able to get any battery voltage on show on mine.

Hi Roger, I'm going to do a video about this, but im using the SK-NMEA200 plugin and for me i just needed to put the word 'House' & 'Starter' in the battery feilds. Took some time to get to that stage but thats all i needed. What are your batteries called?

That’s what I’ve got as well but nothing is showing on the dash display for battery.

If you go to Network I think it is and then NMEA messages on the link to your Pi, can you see it sending battery information as a heading. I don’t think mine shows data here but that was one of the troubleshooting steps

Would be interested to know why you seem to have stopped on the Raspberry Pi? Was it not very good, lack of features? I am at a similar point, i have a Raymarine C120, Autopilot and Radar and looking for new system. I can replace all but the Radar on OpenPlotter (maybe even that with OpenCPN addons)

Hello, I’ve still got my Raspberry Pi and its defiantly not going anywhere. It’s providing all of the engine data, battery data, environmental information and it also gets the info from the Raymarine kit. I've just changed my C80 at the helm station to an Axiom. I've not yet changed my radar so we have lost that functionality at the moment and I plan to swap that for a Quantum2 in the near future. You can link the ethernet/WiFi radars with an OpenCPN plugin, its something I also plan to look at as we move forward so if you do get to that stage before I do, lets us know any hints and tips for getting things setup. opencpn.org/OpenCPN/plugins/radarPI.html Also note that if you swap to Axiom and have an older Autopilot, it can only send a track across to it, you can't directly control it from the screen.

Hi. I'm doing the same upgrade on my B37, 2007 model. I was wondering, what type of interface do you use to connect your SeatalkNG to the RaspberryPi? A CAN->USB device perhaps? Thanks! Svein

Hi, I’m now using a development board from OpenMarine called a MacArthur Hat which should be released soon. It has both Seatalk1 and a can interface so it’s helped me get from one system to another.
