Loving the content lately mate!! As far as the compression ring, for big cylinder pressures and massive rpm you can add Gas Ports to the piston, allowing more gas into behind the ring on compression ring. This allows you to run very tight side clearances and also allows you to run very low tension rings and maintain good sealing results, which means less drag on the exhaust stroke and less parasitic loss.

Wow thats crazy. Id love to experiment with all sorts of different setups for RB's. I take it this would be a big procedure?

@@DriftSquid Not particularly hey mate, Just drill a few lateral half-moon holes in the top ringland. There are some companies that make jigs that sit in the ringlands to make the process a little easier. just be careful on the depth you drill and ensure you drill the ports evenly around the piston. Very budget friendly little mod (y) Super keen to watch this build unfold either way! Keep up the awesome work.

This build is going to be awesome fun for you squid, and I'm absolutely loving learning with you mate. I'm stoked you put the effort in to find a shop that is happy for you to vlog. Really appreciate that bud, good things take time brother so don't stress if this build is abit dragged out but the end result will be 100 times more rewarding knowing you learned and you put in all the necessary effort you'd expect from a shop when you send a engine away for a rebuild. Good stuff mate 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 Be a sponge and soak up all you can from darren, I love working with experienced tradies as once they like ya, they always show you simple little hints and tricks that can make jobs a hell of alot easier as they have had the knowledge on what works and what exactly to look for and you only get that from experience and repetition, this partnership is going to be fantastic for you mate! Shout out to Darren, I love your work mate thanks for letting us into your workshop your a bloody fair dinkum top bloke!

What a time to be alive haha yours is gunna be alot more in depth as it's your own motor and one day we'll see you beat on it I'm sure but it's still a funny coincidence none the less.. I mean I ain't complaining the more rb build series's to watch the better!! #RBTHEWORLD

Yeah I noticed they are a new channel and just boomed straight out fo no where. I wish I could be full time with this channel like they are but it will come. Just need to keep pushing and Ill make it happen one day soon.

@@DriftSquid mighty car mods fronted them a channel to get them started and get a fan base, then after a couple seasons once it proved profitable they started their own channels that may or may not be still fronted through mcm.. Partnerships are key in the RU-vid world. You'll get there man you've got the personality and content part downpat, all in due time brother!

Brilliant timing! My rb30e let go a few weeks ago, just picked up a new one last night and intend on stripping it down and doing a very similar sort of budget build! cant wait for more episodes :P

DriftSquid it’s not a bad thing! Was waiting for it to let go as I knew it was on its way out but now my attitude has changed dramatically and I’m keen just to get stuck into it and learn even if I fk up or break stuff! It’s all learning! Mate don’t stress about that! I loved the long video man, quality over quantity ❤️

Was a good video, be interesting to see how you like the rb30 over rb25 or 26. good to see in Lewis engines shop too, I run his sump & head drain kit & had a head ported by him, very good to deal with & including freight to & from QLD.

Its going to be a very interesting comparison really. I think the extra torque will just feel like I have a smaller turbo on the engine as it will pick up quicker but then not have enough legs like I am use to.

Great content, I have a VL Turbo factory 5 speed wagon which I am wondering what to do with it, as its just starting to show some rust on it after being rust free for 32 years, and thanks to a panel beater who replaced the front plenum panel and should not be working on cars at all. I always had the dream to get 250-300kw out of the stock motor, without having to spend heaps as being on a disability pension hinders ones plans for anything let alone building a half decent motor/car. This build is just perfect for what I wanted to do with my wagons motor pretty much but with my RB30ET single cam head, how much power are you expecting to make reliably with this build as in a every day driver ball park figure will do, and what max power are you looking to gain in the end result. Keep up the mad vids, you deserve alot more subs than you have IMO, you seem like a straight out type of bloke which there ain't many left these days.

Hopefully Ill be finishing the engine soon. I am aiming to have the next video out soon. Once its done Ill get it into a car and see what power it can make. Once its in a car then I will test it flat out till it fails. Stay tuned mate and thanks for the kind words.

Nice vid mate! Just curious, why ARP rod bolts on stock rods? You will have to line bore hone the rods because of the ARP bolts clamping it out of roundness correct me if I'm wrong. The amount of money spent on line bore honing all the conrods, you might aswell buy forged rods that already have ARP rod bolts in them. Or is Darren doing the service for free? I'm also doing a budget RB30 build but I decided not go ARP rod bolts because it will only be for street use and will get tuner to limit revs. Good vid man! Keep it up

Yeah im honestly only doing it so I can show you guys how it can be done. As Darren has the machine to do it. So its literally so we can explain how the process is done. More then likely no need for us to do it though with this application.

Built an rb30det for my r32 12 odd years ago. I'm looking at another r32 and building another. I removed the auto or any spiggot by packing it full of grease then using a socket that fits snug and hammer it in. The grease will push out the spiggot. What was done with the oil control for the budget build and hydraulic head? 2 x 1.5mm restrictors and head oil drain?

Yeah the grease and rag trick does work but I don't have the patience for that. we need them out asap haha. We will explain it all in the coming video. Should be in a couple weeks when I head back down that way.

Hey mate just wondering for an rb30/25 combo on a gts4 would the sump need to be swapped over for the awd sump that I’ve got on my car to the rb30?

I am going to be finishing this engine in 3 weeks time. Ive had to delay it as I live a long way away from Lewis engines. Plus I need to make sure I dont take up too much of his time. Its a long process doing these things. Sorry but we will be finishing it soon

@@TheTexasbro19 PRP is the company name mate. Hit up their website, they hold them in the US. They already test theirs to make sure they are fit for purpose as well. If i found you one if would be a complete gamble.

Why is the crankshaft laying on the ground flat . You never do that stand it up .

It was to explain the process. Relax it doesn't hurt the crank at all.

@@DriftSquid nonsense it does .mate im a technician /mechanic by trade . Even build my own engine but i don't do the mechining work because almost all car enthusiasts do not have the 20k /50k plus for those mechines to mill a head or line bore a block main journals or whatever. . Not a good thing

Lewis engines is well known for nissan FJ20ET not RB

They are well known for heaps of stuff. But it was relevant to say they are well known for RB work in my RB video.

@@DriftSquid fair enough. Also the problem with Japanese engines like the RB are other engines is the oil pump driven straight off the crank . Get a bmw engine has a pump body that runs of a chain not to mention better oiling system than most engines

You say "budget build" every 30 seconds, but not once do you mention how much you're actually going to spend doing this entire process which leads me to believe that it's not actually a budget build, you just got the doner block for $100 is all 😒😒
