I finished up a Clodbuster Black edition a few months ago. Was such a satisfying building experience. The Clod is a truck that I’ve been wanting since I was like 12 back in 88. One of my favorite r/c trucks I own!!!
Had one back in the day, the stock 380 motor was ok, but shortly after I put a 540 in it was way better. Loved it. Schooled the radio shack golden arrow lol
I had a high school neighbor(Stevie) down the street in my old neighborhood(Kingwood, TX.) in the 80's that had a gas powered Tamiya you could hear running up and down the street every Saturday morning after Kung Fu theater. I will never forget the sound of it; it sounded like a very angry hornet. I think that it was even called "The Hornet." It was fast. it was loud. and it was fun to watch him run it up and down the street. Your love for RCs reminds me of him; he would always talk RC with a smile upon his face, too. And, of the 4 he had, he loved that car the most(he had a chopper he'd take to the soccer fields, a plane he flew at the local middle school, and a boat he'd take to the duck pond). Thanks for bringing back so many memories of my childhood, bro.
I built and paid for my first RC kit in 1985.................The Grass hopper. The 380 motor had to be the first upgrade I ever did to get the GH out of it's preverbal shell.......................after that, RC10 gold pan, whooooohoooooooo!
I have an original Tamia frog that my great grandpa had built. He passed it down to my grandpa, and my grandpa had no idea what to do with, so he just put it in a box and stuffed it in the attic. When I got older and into the rc hobby, my grandpa decided to give it for me for my birthday, and I have been trying to restore it. The old mechanical esc's are so cool!
I would give the Grasshopper a coat of Tamiya white atleast. It'll look better. The older vintage buggies are excellent to have in a collection. I have built three new Tamiya's in the last month. One of the best was the Land Freeder Quad Track. What a blast to build and drive. I loved it so much I ordered another one to have.
Very cool!!! I wish i still had my Fox I got in 86ish if I remember correctly. It was so much fun to build with my dad. To the guy that stole it, I will find you some day!!!! Great new segment!!!🤘🤘🤘
After Cox and Testors planes and cars, The Grasshopper was my very 1st rc experience. Love the feeling of this throwback vid. Man! The stories I could tell. Hmm.. Never put the stickers on mine though. I painted the body, had my sister photocopy some rock band logos and clear coated them on. Hey! I was just a kid. Lol Love the vid.
Frog , lunchbox and the grasshopper!!! I remember when I those first came out... Dang bud that gave me an instant time warp back to being ten years old👍
Built a bunch of these grasshoppers and hornets my kids probably 2008'ish. Slammed the mower deck down and cut out a grass track. Never had so much fun with rc cars.
Shoulda done a build video for tamiya tuesday even if it was just short clips until the finished product. Still love your videos man. You've got great rc taste
I just started a Blackfoot build, my first build, in the early ‘80s was a hornet. I have a vintage Frog, it was given to me by a high school friend. Can’t wait to drive my Blackfoot. The frog need a slipper or new trans…2s was to much for it.
The Punky Brewster episode got me in to RC as well. Except I couldn’t afford any of the Tamiya cars back then. In the episode Punky wins a Tamiya Frog and wants to compete in a boys only RC race. The main rival is Ralphie from “A Christmas Story.” Anyways the ep is on Peacock to stream. Lots of old Tamiyas featured in the ep, it’s a great dose of nostalgia. I just bought an old Futaba radio with receiver and servos, it’s 30 years later but I’m going to have a Tamiya Frog!
You can paint lexan with non polycarbonate paint.i use aksonobel automotive paint with there vps1 adhesion promoter and it works great 👍. I race with it and have no problems. Just need to make sure the lexan is clean amd dry. With that said. You can't go to hobby lobby or Walmart and get some non polycarbonate spray paint and it work. It will flake off because the paint is not flexible
Whats up Mark dang bro looks like you have a hobby shop in you house. I too have a lot of R/C trucks and cars all together about 45 of them I should of kept all my boxes, but wife made move all my stuff to the basement so I made a hobby shop I wish I can send you some pics of my R/C VAULT. But yours is sweet nice clean in order you my hero bro Nicely done mark and thank you again for being so detailed and Giving your viewer's super great content you the man bro God Bless Your friend william from NJ Forgettaboutit lol lol
Believe it or not the hardest thing to put together on this is putting the middle rim piece in the in the tire because it's like putting up square peg in a circle.
Enjoyed building the Neo Fighter 2wd with sports tuned brushed motor and the Plasma Edge 2 with Hobbywing EZRUN Brushless on 2S :D Building is exciting and somehow more fun than driving 🤣 For bashing I am on my Traxxas Maxx 4S.
I have one of these and I put a dirt tunedmotor on it. I also have fighter buggy RX memorial edition I just got and the Black edition grasshopper 2 with 4 CVA shocks for it that came with it.
That the car that got me into the hobby I was at a family reunion an a cusion had a tamyia grasshopper 2wd buggy man I was hooked that day you should look into getting a tamyia Clod Buster it was my first ever hobby grade Rc an i still have it today.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Mark…..I was driving the Grasshopper while you were in diapers! 🤣😐🤦🏽♂️ I don’t have my OG grasshopper or frog anymore. But I do have an OG Blackfoot 😬
Dang you were born around the same time The original Transformers movie came out. I’m glad to see you bust out and the parts trees. I have the same nippers Bro. My channel is mostly Lunchbox and Midnight Pumpkin builds and Modds.
Still have 2 Tamiya Grasshopper's one built and running and one still factory sealed in the box never opened with the price tag still on as well when you could still buy them new for $120 new here in New Zealand now you could probably add another 0 here for a second hand one
I am glad to see your enthusiasm for the Tamiya kits. The one thing nice about the Grasshopper withe the 380 motor is that you can give it to a new drivers, away from all hard obstacles, and it will run for a very, very long time.
Our grasshoppers back in the day used to run for almost an hour on a 6 cell nicad pack with the rs380 motor. not the fastest but good beginner car. swap to a 540 makes a big difference. loved the hornet out of the box. alot faster.
I keep struggling with starting on one of the re-issues. 25=30 yrs ago I had real classics: Bruiser, Supershot, Fox, Optima Mid etc. I do miss the basic bashing I could do with those, but they are just so dated design wise compared to today's offerings.....but I am feeling the bug as all I ahve right now are TRX-4's. Great idea for a series though.
Tamiya cars LOOK amazing they have the best overall look. Not the fastest cars even though with hop ups and stuff I suppose they could be but as far as LOOKS go nothing beats Tamiya across the entire rc spectrum for cars. You know it rhymes..........Tuesday Tamiya with Mark Santa Maria.........just sayin.
