Pros: - Great price. - Very good for videos, connect the mini-HDMI to your flat screen and you can watch TV from all over the world (I use Dolphin browser for the flash support). - It has two USB ports: a micro-USB to use as a secondary charger, and a full-size USB for a mouse or keyboard or just transfer files to the PC. - It takes a micro SD up to 32 GB. That is plenty, giving it 64 GB which, for Android, is a lot of space. - Easy to root. You do it and you basically got a Linux computer, capable of running samba, shutdown, minidlna, etc. smoothly. - If you're the power-user type, you'll get a lot out of this tablet. - Also, it's great for reading books. - Battery life, I can use it to watch videos for over four hours before it dies. Cons: - No magnetic sensors, so no compass, no star maps, etc. - No GPS, so you better are good at reading maps. - It's at best ok for games. - Docking/undocking interferes with programs. - Headset when unplugged may fail to reconnect speaker, you may need to go through a few connect/disconnect cycles until the speaker comes back to life. - When battery goes all the way to zero, it may freeze the tablet. It will look dead until you charge it all the way back to 100%, but won't give you any clue it's charging or alive. Some people have assumed the tablet died on them, when in fact it just needed a full re-charge. - Touchpad gets in the way of typing, and the keyboard can lag behind if you're a fast typist.
+MarciCow Good information. How do you transfer files to the pc? I've tried on two window computers, but get a pop up stating that windows 7 does not recognize my rca tablet. Your thoughts? Thanks, Randell
+TRONICVISION I use an app named "Network Browsing" by Brandon Stecklein. It integrates with the "Helios File Manager," so you can copy/move files from your tablet to any computers in your network. Tried many others, but it's the only one that seems to work perfectly with this RCA tablet. To access the tablet from the computers, you need "Web Server Ultimate" by Ice Cold Apps. It creates a web server from your tablet, that you can access from Windows/Mac/Linux easily. For Windows, assign a port under 9999 to have fewer problems (you'll get what I mean when configuring; don't forget to set /storage/emulated/0 as the root for the web server). Finally, remember you cannot integrate a tablet into a Windows Network until you have a samba server running, but to do that you need to root the tablet. The three utilities given above will do a good job until you decide to root the tablet, which in turn causes trouble with some other apps. I don't recommend rooting unless you're truly familiar with Linux/Android.
Update November 22, 2016: I came out with a subreddit website that's free to join to post questions, comments, and news on everything associated with cheap tablets: www.reddit.com/r/BudgetTablets/
Thanks for your very in depth spoken word review. This was one of the best reviews I've seen. I ordered my tablet based on this review. Thanks again,Randell
+Underground Tech Hello again Underground Tech. got my tablet today and stuff works OK. The only problem I see is that this Tablet won't communicate with my computer thru USB. Can't load/download files from USB. I searched net wise and RCA but found on solutions. There is a windows version of this tablet which I'm sure would sync with a computer, but they are alittle pricy. Buddy, if you hear of any solutions for the Viking Pro, please let me know. Thanks, Rqandell
Your review of this product was much, much better than the last review I watched. The poor guy was stumbling all over himself and couldn't even describe anything well, whether it was a good remark or a bad remark. I actually felt bad for him, so I wrote up a quick, half-assed sound description in the comments in case anyone had the misfortune of stumbling on his video like I did, and was actually curious about the product. I thought I'd share my opinions about it here as well. For those that are curious about the sound quality, here are my personal thoughts: Both the speaker volume output and the speaker sound quality are exceptionally poor in my opinion. There is one speaker on the opposite side of the screen. So along with the sound pointing away from the user, music that's mixed in stereo, listened to through the lone speaker, sounds almost swampy and muddy from both channels being smashed together. Conversely, the headphone volume output and the sound quality are okay depending on what type and brand of headphones you use. Naturally, the better the quality of headphones, the better the sound quality and volume output will be. Lows, mids, and highs are fairly and equally represented via headphones. The headphone volume output hovers between tolerable and okay, depending on the headphones used. With that said though, what it lacks in speaker and sound points, it makes up for in numerous other areas. Overall, and especially when compared to the economical price, the quantity of features, the processing speed, and its multi-usefulness should far surpass any low expectations or worries associated with a >$100.00 device. Please feel free to rebut or ask any questions.
I bought mine at about (less than) two years ago. And I find it most helpful. When the main computer crashes and needs repair/maintenance, an alternative becomes important. The computer is not a luxury item; it is now a needed fixture like a TV or the bathroom sink. One has to keep connected to email, banking, bill paying, etc. These are things we now do on the PC that we used to do by mail or personal visit. I don't think it would be possible to write a term paper on it, but in a pinch it could be done, albeit with a certain discomfort. I don't think Google Docs is nearly as flexible as Microsoft Word, using a foreign language, for example. But it works great for RU-vid, even if auxiliary speaker is needed. And I Chrome cast my RU-vid videos to my TV. And there really is NO excuse for the speaker; if HPStream 13" can make a decent audible speaker, so can any other company make a decent audible speaker. i don't play games on mine, so I cannot speak to that.
+Underground Tech Is The Screen Good From like An Angle... cause you know how some tablet get dark from an angle and the other it does not..... if you could tell me about that I'd really appreciate it.... Thanks In Advance
Does the keyboard work for games or are you stuck with your typical touch screen controls? And despite the minor stuttering, how intensive can the games be when played before it becomes a problem? Hopefully it's not much of an issue at all.
For the price, you get an excellect tablet/computer. Long ago I started computing when a 20 meg hard drive was a lot. The idea of something like this for less than 100 bucks would have been unimaginable.
owned this tablet for a bit, just thought id give some feedback, the keyboard isnt super responisive but tolerable, display is crisp and easy to see in moderate sunlight, no burned edges or angles, for the price of 98.00 that i just paid, it is WELL worth that cost, also very tough and great construction.
Hey Underground Tech, good review of the device. It added a lot of things from the unboxing video. My question is whether you can use the Android 5 OS as with a smartphone in order to install apps to the SD card by default?
Works great! Extremely durable. One of the top tablets for under 90$ the settings and adjustments you can make to run at optimized is simple. 8/10 star's for me .
My mom got me one and it should be here tomorrow, I use my tablet mostly for games and watching youtube or netflix so I think this will be perfect for me. The keyboard wasn't a big thing for me but I thought it was worth it for the price, thank you for this video it helped me get an idea of what I'm gonna be getting.
PsychoKitty사랑 I'm glad the video was helpful! If the keyboard is something you're not planning on using then I would've recommended the Viking II because it's near the same price and performs better in games. This tablet was enjoyable to watch videos and play simple games so i think it should be good enough for that.
That's a rip-off, It's much cheaper at Walmart. I also put a link to the cheapest one on Amazon for anyone that wanted to get it from there instead in the description.
Hey Underground Tech, recently i acquired an Viking Pro for myself. Now, it's a nice tablet and it runs well, but there i one minor problem. Everytime i try to do a firmware update for it, it downloads, but then goes to a screen saying "Update Aborted" do you have any idea why this is and if so, how can i fix this issue?
I just purchase the RCA 7 Voyager II 7-inch 16GB Quad Core tablet today. Going to purchase the RCA Viking Pro 10.1" 2-in-1 Tablet 32GB Quad Core on Friday. Both purchases from Walmart. I have a couple of tablets, but tired of spending a lot of money on devices for just surfing the web, watching movies, and reading books. As for taking pictures, I have a cameras, cell phones, and a webcam. I love my gadgets, but I don't feel I should have to spend an arm and a leg for them.
I like it enough but I would like it a little more for half the price just actually I paid $110 I just looked and I got it a week ago I still have the box and I know I could return it do you think Amazon would match my price do you take that this is something I should be upfront about or find another way to get it returned if you know what I mean 😉😋😁😥
Thanks for the review! I purchased this for my son for Christmas, however, I got it out to make sure everything was there and working. I tried to download Hayday and it said it was not compatible? It is his favorite game any advice.
Hey, does the speaker work better w/ headphones or earbuds? I know I've had laptops that have crap speakers, but work well with my earbuds. I'm going to a community college in September and am seriously considering buying this. The speakers are not absolutely necessary, but would be convenient. Get back to me if you can, thanks!
thanks for the review, I Think now I'll consider buying this 2 in 1 tablet I'm mainly gonna be using it for work purposes for a new potential job I found but may look into other 2 In 1 tablets if nothing else I'm buying this one
I just want to let you know 2 things: 1. I made an update video on this tablet link is in the description 2. theres a newer model or version of this called the rca viking ii
Dropped mine a week into ownership and though it survived the top left corner button popped off. I've got 2 things to hook the key back on, but have no idea how to do it or how to even try! I don't know what the u-turn button does anyway, so guess I'll leave it off and if it's ever needed then I'll push on the remaining button. Still bites me that it happened, but better that I did it myself and not any other way.
Bought this for my son, but I cant seem to use the USB port that connects to an external drive so he can watch movies. I already reviewed their manual and on RCA youtube tutorial and there is no "file explorer" only file manager (this still does not work), it also says that you could access this through the Gallery, and nope. Every time I connect the USB it says its blank and if I want to format it. I just want the kids to watch some movies. Any advice?
I have this same tablet. I need to ask, is there anyway we can download songs to an mp3 ipod-(Apple); through I-tunes on this type of tablet? Thank you kindly.
Would this be good to use only for google voice and open table? Sorry, not tech savvy AT ALL.just need it for my job going between open table app and google voice app...
I notice the Marshmellow version is $99 at walmart and the Lollipop System is $129. They both seem to have the same spec, why is one more than the other?
I got one it's day three and i'm it took alot to see lag and it's than i'll do all at one. It's really nice if your broke like me and your play light games and watching videos like these. doing homework or watching movie's or even live streaming works flawless. it's not for travel and editing even songs is not idea. You wanna easy and power way to watch shows/movies or play a few games and do alot of what low end laptops can do. but don't wanna break the bank it's nice deal for at home use. I'm happy with it.
+Underground Tech I can't use this (RCA Viking Pro) tablet without the keyboard. I tired retting and it still does not work. Do you know how to fix this?
Hey great review went out and bought 1. So now I've got a problem...the keyboard just quit working. I've only had it 5 hours. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
Can you tell me how to hide the on screen keyboard? Don't know how it appeared...think I hit something when I got sleepy...Lol. But I don't like it and can't remember how to get rid of it! Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi my mother in law is looking in to getting this tablet and she wanted me to make sure that it had an auto correct feature before she bought it. . does it have an auto correct feature ?
Hi. I can't seem to assign the web key and mail key. It always asks to complete using. Even when I click always. Your experience? Help appreciated. Thanks
Can't get mine to connect to my TV which is one of the main reasons I bought it for the HDMI connection. I connect , turn my non-smart TV to HDMI - it says " Retrieving data " then goes black . I tried powering everything on and off - I have zero problem watching youtube on the tablet but it won't cast to the tv - any ideas ? I KNOW it is something minor : (
I thought it was so funny that you were talking about how bad the speaker is and at the same time your voice is going in and out: im just saying I think the tablet speaker is better than most microphones.
I can't get my screen off of the screen with the date and time. Any ideas? I bought it a couple of years ago and never used it. It is fully charged. Could my fingers be too dry? What button on the keyboard will get it going? It says swipe up to unlock, but does not work.
+jesuisravi I'm glad you liked it and good question. So 2 things on the tablet: 1. I hate how slow it gets from time to time. When I use the tablet to write something like on word, there's a long delay. For a more detailed explanation. I made an update video after 4 Months: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7K5e0Oyxq8I.html 2. There's actually a newer version of this coming out tomorrow(May 22) called the Viking tab II and it looks like a good improvement from this so I'm definitely going to have a first look video on it tomorrow.
I got question bout this I can't find no information about which stylus I can use on this I've my boyfriend's but it don't work on my Viking pro... so which stylus works on this and is it cheap? could I buy like Walmart or something? I'm new to the stylus and tablet thing so please help me!!!
i just bought this and the screen is very dark. I have brightness turned all he way up & fully charged battery. It looks like it's on save battery mode but it isn't. Am I missing something or is it a defective tablet?
Hey +UnderGroundTech i love your reviews and i think its great that you go below mainstream. I suggest that you should do a unboxing on the RCA Voyager Pro w/th the Keyboard.
+Nathaniel Tapia Thanks man, and I'll keep that in mind, but to me that looks the voyager from 2014 with the same specs, just with a keyboard this time.
Oh okay. I just suggested it because no has a review on it and plus I like your reviews more than other youtubers because you actually know what you're talking about. Speaking of I'm typing this review with the 10 Viking Pro.
+Nathaniel Tapia Hey I appreciate that! and yeah I'll see if I can get my hands on one in the near future. How do you like the viking pro you have so far?
thanks. I have an ASUS tf300t that has a detachable keyboard that also acts as a docking station to charge the tablet and extends battery life several hours. I've had it for several years and love it but now it's having difficulties :-(
Update after 4 years using this tablet (3.5 since first review). I can honestly say this is the most bang for the buck I've had since the ZX Spectrum. Sturdy, resilient, and amazing for the power user. I have two of these tablets I keep on 24/7, which means the battery life is not as long as it could be --still they lasted four years, just replaced both batteries a week ago. More Pros: - Yes, you can do simple video editing, the type you can do with Android apps; - When rooted, it integrates seamlessly with a Linux network (I guess I could be considered a Linux "power user" though, which means any problem I find, I can figure out in minutes); - Even though the stated limit for the external MicroSD is 32GB, it can work with some 64GB ones(!); - I've kept two of them on for 24/7 for 4 years, using the battery power about twice a week (near-full drain) and the battery kept capable of playing up to 90 minutes of video well into their 3rd year (brand new it could reach 5 hours); - You can disable the trackpad temporarily and use it for typing documents on the go in Office 365; - Unlike virtually every other tablet I've tried, keeping it on even in the middle of the summer, 24/7, running a decent load, won't get it blistering hot; - They've survived drops, spills, and power surges, etc. and the connector remains solid; More Cons: - When you open it up to replace the battery, the original one is glued firmly to the back of the screen, so that first time you're going to need patience; - When the battery finally dies, there is no way to keep the tablet alive --even if plugged in, and even if you try the usual tricks (disconnect the battery, disconnect/reconnect it, put it in the freezer, etc.); - The replacement battery will put you off about a third of the original price of the tablet, so unless you have a lot invested in them (as in, hours to make it work exactly as you want for your very specific purposes), you may be better off getting a new one; - The Android installed is not upgradeable, as expected with a cheap tablet or phone, mine still have Lollipop 5.0 (which is no problem if you know how to root, use third party APKs, or install hacked ones). Thanks to the full USB port, you can connect this one to portable speakers, the kind you can mount on the tablet itself, and get quite good sound. The two cameras are still trash, though, with no hope of improvement. PS: Forgot to mention, the internal cables of this one (keyboard, digitizer, main board) are secured to the connectors using the pull-up type of lock, not the slide-out like most others. You have to lift the little black bars, not try to pull them loose.
Excellent review. Covered all the bases. I got one for$80 and am very pleased with it. I'm not a gamer, but this note pad is great for You Tube, viewing photos and movies, and doing email. I thought the speaker was ok, but have plugged in powered speakers for greater depth of sound.
I ordered these for a 5 year old and a 7 year old, mainly for just the tablet, would this be good for them? They just watch you tube and play little games.
hey, im in doubt whether to buy an LG G pad 10.1 (v700) or this one from the video, please help me im looking for something i can use for Videos Games(Clash,Boom Beach ) and for web searching such as research for school.
Sounds great but, I'll need a good case (cant find any) and also wondered, if you have a Micro HDMI to a HDMI could you plug it into a tv with a HDMI port and would whats happening on the tablet show up on the tv?
Good review. what is the max gb the microSD card can be. The PDF manual say 32gb, but I saw a review for this tablet that said 128gb? Thanks in advane for any help you could provide.
I have the same one and it's not like you think it not $100 its $125 and when you hold the tablet it does not hurt for a period of time the speaker is not terrible you must be deaf or some thing and when you delete something it does not delete more then you want to
