My wife bought me a RCBS kit for Christmas 2012, I love it, I really enjoy reloading, not only for custom rounds for my rifle but, it relaxes me, allows me to relax. It's very cool shooting your own rounds. Nice video, very well presented.

Fantastic teacher! Easy to follow. I reloaded .270 and .243 hunting rounds for years back in the 80's for Dad and I on a RockChucker. I just bought the Supreme (wow is it heavy duty!) and am now reloading for Cowboy Action and for my Henry 45-70 as well. Had to get back into the swing of things and this video was perfect for me! Thank you

wish they had videos like this when i first began reloading in 1978, lol. my uncle that's just 5 years older than me taught me when i was 20. i am 62 now and have taught all three of my sons and both of my younger brothers along with their daughters and sons. now my 7 year old granddaughter likes to help her PAWPAW make bullets. i have a progressive press for me and she uses my single station press. it's just a wonderful bonding experience to have her help. and the best part is i can make reduced .223 loads with about the same power as a .22 magnum. many might ask why reduced .223? well she loves my " machine gun" and has a blast shooting it. now it doesn't actually cycle the action, that has to be done by hand but it gives her a thrill that money just can't buy. and makes PAWPAW AWFULLY PROUD. CAN'T WAIT FOR MY 2 YEAR OLD GRANDSON TO GET OLD ENOUGH TO JOIN ME.

When I was new to reloading, I had a round with insufficient gun powder and got a squib stuck in my barrel. Lucky for me, I noticed that nothing had come out, so I caught it and took it to a gunsmith to remove, as I was too afraid of screwing up my barrel. Saved my beautiful CZ pistol from damage. I feel like I got off easy for a valuable lesson.

Insufficient powder! Try no powder and the primer did get the bullet into the barrel. Did that over 40 years ago so stopped reloading at midnight hours. Did pull some 44 mag apart after finding it was too hot and found the reloading manual was published in error! Newer addition was updated but they never corrected the old! I forget which powder formulation change for same powder number, maybe 231. That was a bad move. If you get into Cowboy action shooting it is almost a must to reload your ammo!

What damage can an uncharged round cause?

@@internetcrap7 squib load. Bullet getting stuck in your barrel you fire another round after that and the pressure can't escape out the front of the barrel so it has nowhere to go and then the barrel goes BOOM or a weaker part of the gun.

PS : I check the first 5 trimmed sized empty brass into the rifle chamber to see if the SIZING dies is set correctly. At fianl seating I also insert the first 5 loaded pieces into the rifle chamber to see if I set the length properly. Correcting one size mistake is easier to remedy than X number on finished pieces of loaded ammunition. The rifle is set into a LEAD SLED and pointed out and down to the dirt in the back yard. If you are easily distracted, don't like to follow or read instructions, cut corners because you think you might get away with it, don't have time or space, reloading may not be for you. Reloading can be safe or it can be dangerous. It is your choice. If you are considering reloading to save money, know this, your first round may cost easily a thousand dollars for press, dies, scale, powder measure, book, caliper, trimmer, deburrer, reamer/swager, locking rings, cleaning equipment and materials, lighting, bench, powder, primers and bullets. And it can be very time consuming. With a single stage press I can make some nice cheap 9mm ammo at a rate of a hundred rounds in 1.5 hours with a material cost of under 20 cents a round. For rifle rounds it is about 2 hours per hundred. This time includes, time spent on set up, take down and clean up. It took me a few thousand rounds to pay off my equipment compared to buying ammo off the shelf. That's a lot of evenings sitting at the reloading bench.

@Drivapete
@Drivapete 3 года назад
I usually only crimp (lightly) on a heavy recoil caliber where the bullets in the magazine may be deeper seated due to recoil. Usually a tube magazine (30-30, 32 win, 45-70, and many others). If you crimp, may I suggest a Lee factory crimp die, about 13.00 and much easier than setting a RCBS die. Better crimp too. You shouldn't need to crimp a 300 wsm.

@@russellkeeling9712 its no problem, with not shiny and new looking cases. Grid, smoke, dust, and sand on a case can damage your reloading tools, especially the dies. So it is a good idea, to clean the cases before any reloading operation. I have seen some dies, with a stucking case inside, or dies with bad scratches of sand inside.

Thanks for the very informative video. I'm researching reloading my rounds. I have just one firearm - a .308 calibre Bergara rifle which I use solely for long range target shooting. I'm just beginning to research and buy the kit required for reloading (- as I'm nearly broke buying Hornady 168gr factory rounds off the shelf here in Ireland !!! ) I wont be reloading anything but 308 Match cases. I have 300-400 once fired cases ready to go. My question is - do you recommended I buy the RCBS Universal Hand Priming Tool 90201 (with square tray) or the marginally less expensive RCBS Hand priming Tool (Model 90200 with the Circular Tray) and then buy the required 308 shell holder separately. Is there any benefit in using one model over the other (90201 v's 90200) when priming one sized cases only. For example would the 308 cases fit more snugly into a 308 shell holder than into the recess on the Universal 90201 model? Are there any advantages/disadvantages to either approach when priming 308 cases only? Which model do you suggest I buy (90200 or 90201). I'll never be reloading anything but 308 cases. Thanks. John

I've been reloading for 35 years and only neck sized my cases but , I've only shot that brass out of that rifle and nothing different . I have 2 bolt actions and a Ruger # 1V falling block . Question ... should I keep doing what i'm doing or try to FL size and compare accuracy ?
