Picked up a little Blue Roan Nokota mare in that same random event just last night. Arthur spent the better part of the evening working on cleaning her up and treating her wounds, bribing her to sit still for it with all the carrots and hay she would eat. After some time and groceries she'll be a looker with a story to tell, a perfect companion to the gruff outlaw who gets along better with horses that he does most people.
My favourite horse in this game is the Shire horse - kept it from the beginning right through to the end, which made it even sadder when Arthur says goodbye. It’s entirely comical too - next to it every other rider and mount looks like a child on a pony, and this effect is never more visible than when Dutch makes a call to ride out and attack the army with the Wahiti people, some 2 or 3 feet below Arthur.
Yes!!! I kept my Shire as well. Tough horse ,great for hunting and in the snow. It doesn't like predators though and will throw you. You have to carefull they dont get too close. I use a faster horse for gun fights and robbery. I love my Shire. 😁
Just got my boah yesterday. It may not looked beautiful like most horses, but the background story is enough for me to give my boah a chance, i'll ride with him until the end. Not that bad stats, courage is fine, and actually doesn't feel slow, it's fast. Thanks rockworth.
I managed to get all three of the scarred/burned Murfree horses, but in my experience, none of them showed any particular bravery. The Nokota can hustle pretty well, though; the Appaloosa has very low stats. They only sell for a dollar, but since we all know Arthur likes horses and wouldn't sell them to the glue factory, I imagined this was him finding better homes for them.
Been watching your videos for a while but you got my subscription with this one. I love rehabbing the Murfree horses and later the Nokota that the skinners shot full of arrows
I have to agree with you based on my own in-game experience. In fact, any of the Murphy Brood horses will do wonderfully as a companion horse. With all the shit they have gone through being with the Murphies, an alligator, a cougar, a panther, or a gunfight pales in comparison. Right now I am doing a playthrough with a Murphy Blue Roan Nokota. Have yet to be bucked off by it and it has yet to freeze in place during or after a gunfight. All other horses I have played with have frozen in place during or after a gunfight and refuse to move at all.
@@DevonRyeTheDragonfly You are absolutely right, brother. Every horse in rdr2 is susceptible to bucking off it rider if confronted by big cat, grizzly, or wolves 😂
Solid video, just wanted to mention you do have a small stat error. Health starts at level 5 and ends at 8, you have the rest correct 👍🏻 I’ve been a fan of this horse for quite a while so I’m glad to see it gets some kudos out here.
Just rescued a Nokato as John in the prologue from a Skinner bros attack, comes complete with arrows sticking out it but a visit to the stable, one care package later it's like new, I'm on my 2nd playthrough and to be honest I don't spend a lot of time hunting the various wild horses like the white Arabian etc 2 reasons I like to rescue/take them from the bad guys and I only have a 50% success rate at staying on the wild ones been thrown more times than I care to remember, also the fact you can only have 4 in the stables and as John you get none of Arthurs horses which is understandable considering we pick up as John several years later.
If you struggle to break horses as soon as you mount open satchel it will go slow motion for about 30 seconds then the horse will be broken without throwing you
There's a trick to not getting thrown off when breaking a horse, move the stick down or back then keep moving it left and right, from about 8 o'clock to 4 o'clock, quickly back and forth until it's done.
I missed the premiere, but thanks for showing us another option on the horse companion. For some people it is all about the stats, but for others it's about interesting mounts. Play the game you want to play.
Just happened across this video I got a nakota from a murphree guy n didn't know if it would permanently change its look if I tried to change anything on it now I know ❤
This horse's high health stat (bested only by Buel, and top Arabians and Andalusians) and rough appearance make it perfect for low honor Arthur. I imagine this horse has a pretty cynical attittude towards humanity due to her poor treatment by the Murfrees.
The bravest horse for me was the male version of the black Arabian. Obtained in chapter 2 in St Denis in a random event of a mugging gone wrong. How did I test this? Simple just take it to the swamps and play with the alligators.
Hey, I have a question. If I was to have a a fully bonded horse, say an Ardennes, which has 6 speed when fully bonded, would it increase if I was to add +2 stirrups and complete that race event with the lady with the super fast horse? Just asking because the ardennes looks supercool, but it irks me due to its lesser speed.
I enjoy these but I don't understand their point. It would be, perhaps SHOULD be different. But we only get 4 horse slot's in a stables, and they are for EVERY stable, along with I believe a maximum of TWO temporary horses at any one time. Choice therefore is limited. We cant stable different horses at every stable, or have double digit slot's. We can only OWN 4 horses at once. So why not endeavour to own the BEST ones. I resent the special pre order horse taking up one of my slots because I forgot you cant sell it and "bought"it from Valentine stable's during Hosea's hunting mission. So, why would I bother with a mistreated Murfree Nag? There are far better horses to collect.
There are players that appreciate variety and don’t just aim at a horse based off of stats alone. The “best” horse is subjective to whatever each person deems the best. There are variables like appearance, temperament when threatened, etc. Then there are players that literally get emotionally attached to horses and it’s not about any of those things but it’s the best horse for ‘them’. So you can’t speak for everyone. I provide the content and you do with it what you will.
@@RockworthRDR2 I wasn't trying to. For the record my first scripted horse death was the Dutch warmblood from Valentine. My first playthrough was totally blind, as in I didn't look anything up and made a lot of mistake's. I didn't know the horse death was coming that first time. It hurt almost as much as Arthur's final scene. But none of that alter's the reality that you only get 4 horse slot's. Or the fact that it suck's just as hard when you KNOW that final mission in Chapter 6 kills your horse, even more so really when you watch a horse with 8's and 9's for some of it's stat's die. On top of that the knowledge that Marston inherits NONE of Arthur's horses. It's all a bitter pill. If anything going after the statistically GREAT horses as Arthur is even more emotionally draining because there's so few of them. As example getting the TOP Foxtrotter opposed to the run of the mill one, and knowing as soon as Arthurs on that hill, or dying in the mud for low honour, all that effort is for nought. The stat's are more then just more bar's when all is said and done. They're a time commitment as well as effort and determination.
Yep, you get it. So what’s the problem lol? Nothing we can do about the stable space, but what you may see as a “less-than” murfree horse, some players may value that horse and it could potentially even be someone’s favorite. A limited stable space doesn’t mean you can’t experience as many horses as you desire.
@@RockworthRDR2 I never implied I "had" a problem, was just giving my opinion. But while you "can" technically own whatever horse you want in the game, you do have to sell one if you have 4 stabled and you come across a 5th horse you like. I was merely pointing out the inadequacy of the stable size. But then that's nothing new for this developer. Just like in GTA games you can only have so many cars/vehicles, you can only have so many horses at one time. That less than murfree, as I put it won't be as fast or as brave as, for example, that Turkoman war/race variant you can get from the Braithwaite mission in Chapter 3, or as sturdy and bulky as that Shire black you can keep from near the start of Chapter 2, or yes, as pacy and elegant as one of the Arabians, or as memorable as the horse that belonged to that fisher friend Arthur can make on his travels.[Beul] So that means if I was to do that random event on my current playthrough to "save" that horse, the game would force me to free up space. Which is all I'm trying to say, really.
