I feel the only canon horse is the black Shire. Beautiful coat suits Arthur, and the description by Hosea and Arthur fits Arthur's character; unruly, nasty look, magnificent creature. The horse is also big, powerful and steady, like Arthur.
Agree. When I replay the game I'll be carefull to protect the Black Shire it , is an awesome horse and mine got killed. Can I keep the first horse Arthur gets at the start as well. 🤔
The O’Driscoll horse also suits Arthur in a way too, especially when you mount him for the times you attack the O’Driscolls, slowly redeeming him from being one of theirs bit by bit, all the way to the end where you ride him into the last mission as Arthur where he unfortunately dies during their escape, but at least he’s somewhat redeemed from his past usage. Almost synonymous with Arthur’s redemption arc.
@@RockworthRDR2 Technically you can get him at the start of Chapter 4 using the Angelo Bronte save glitch. You can also get the "Ultimate Edition" Dapple Black Thoroughbred and Rachel that way as well. You should definitely do a showcase on how to get some of the truly rare horses that are in the base game, but you can only acquire with cheat codes + save glitch. Love your vids, Rockworth! For the moment, I'm in love with a wild bay mustang. Not very fast or fancy, but hella brave. And it's a combo work/war horse, and that's uncommon enough. The breed is also so iconic wild west.
This is how it goes in my head. For chapter 1, it would be the mahogany bay tennessee walker. We’ve seen him use only that horse for that period and there are no other choices. For chapters 2 and 3, arthur would want to choose a breed that the gang doesn’t have yet. So, (excluding riding and draft horses because those are for npcs let’s be honest xd) it’s either the dutch warmblood, andalusian and thoroughbred. I choose the perlino andalusian, because it’s a big and strong looking horse, much like arthur’s personality and demeanour. And, it’s the only free one, at brandywine drop. Plus, it blends well with john’s hungarian halfbred and bill’s ardennes, all three of which are war horses. For chapters 4 and 6, Arthur would want an upgrade from his previous horse, and choose the top 3, stat-wise. The arabian, turkoman and missouri fox trotter. I don’t think arthur would want to challenge dutch and hosea by getting an arabian or turkoman, but I reckon he wouldn’t mind challenging micah. That’s why I think he would get the amber champagne missouri fox trotter, a nice contrast to micah’s black one. If you’re ever wondering what overthinking looks like, this right here is an example. 😅
Agree 👍 Perlino Andalusian is the best choice for Arthur. Unique breed unique coat and realy brave. Remember, added to the game in 1.3 patch, so could have something special too 😉 I always name a male perlino 'Tristan'
It might not be the best horse in the game, not by a long shot, but the starter Tennessee Walker will always be Arthur’s horse in my eyes. Got quite attached to him, I used him for the majority of my first playthrough as Arthur, right up til the end.
I think the Thoroughbred that kicks the guy is canon. It matches Arthur’s Gunslinger jacket and it pops up all over until you finally see the guy get kicked and now the horse has no owner so Arthur is rescuing it by taking it. It’s the first good horse he can get and he isn’t being forced to take it but it’s right next to camp as soon as Chapter 2 starts.
You forgot to mention that if you get the silver dapple pinto you can see Albert mason's pictures in the galleries in san denis and in his pictures there's one of you and of all the animals you helped him get pics of. So when you visit blackwater as john you get to see the plaque from the fundraiser thing with Arthur's name, you get the other rock if you spare the mayor's assistant john mark. And theres pictures in the galleries of Arthur AND his horse. Its cannon and documented for posterity (john)
I love the mahogany bay walker. Decided to keep him for a playthrough and fell in love. He's a great horse. Brave and loyal to the very end. I know this is a weird choice, but I also love Arthur on the Splashed White American Paint. I found her on my first playthrough and used her, and only her, all the way to the end. She's not as big as the shire or fast like the arabian but I like the way Arthur talks to her. Super sweet and gentle. Always saying how she saved him again or how he owes her or what a brave girl she is. Shes usually the only mare I have so it adds to the dialogues.
I agree Arthur likes this horse and he also wanted something strong and fast, this horse can keep the pace no grunting when going fast or climbing hills
My Pink Andalusian one gets easily skittish and hard to handle (what is especially annoying in the Annesburg/Murfree area). The hungarian halfbred from Wrobel is a dream. Doesn't flinch at bullets and stays very easy to handle against predators like wolf packs and gators. Only downside is the speed. You can never outrun when 10 O'Driscolls ambush you.
back here. In my second playthrough I first got a Pink Andalusian boy and he was skittish again so I sold him. Couple of game in days later went back to the spot where you find it out of curiousity if it would respawn and it was there again. This time a girl and she is brave af on level 4 bonding. So I guess with the Pink Andalusian it's luck if brave or not. Only horses that I never had various brave behaviour was with the Grey Hungarian Halfbred and the Tiger striped Mustang.
blood bay thoroughbred for me. the most brave horse i’ve had in the game and i have over 800 hours. it’s a beautiful horse and i love that it’s a wild horse. to me his coat color and how big and muscular the horse is matches arthur perfect
I try not too worry about which horse Arthur would've chose because doing that leaves you with limited options. Certain breeds in this game didn't exist in 1899 and I do not believe Arthur would've chosen any of the draft horses in this game as they wouldn't have been practical for an outlaw. I think Arthur's canon horse is the Mahogany Bay, with anything else being up for debate.
After losing the piebald I decided not to go through all that again so soon, so moved on to testing out the shire received from Hosea that I kept after watching your videos on him. I LOVE THIS HORSE !! He just feels like a smoother ride and he's SOOOOO massive. I like comparing him to others riding beside me too 😂 He doesn't buck me, but if you aren't on him and something comes up...HE SURE DOES LEAVE YOUR SIDE !!! and you're always having to call him back or find him again lol
All good choices. Mahogany Bay Tennessee Walker would be my top choice as Cannon. Others easy to find/steal in Ch 2 I would also include would be a Hungarian Halfbred (feel like John would copy big bro choice of horse), Thoroughbred, or an Andalusian. Last two are the few breeds nobody else in the gang already has, and are both good size and speed for Arthur.
at the end when you killed that guy in Lagras on the raven black shire and Arthur said ‘i’ll be killing you again in Hell, my friend’ OUUUUUGH thatvwas so cool
Even though honestly, there is no cannon, but I personally think that the raven Blackshire and the iron gray Ardennes fit more with Arthur since he’s a since Arthur is stocky, build and brave and there are a couple of horses that fit with Arthur not just those two the brindle thoroughbred the reverse, black dapple thoroughbred the white Arabian, the red chestnut, Arabian, the black Arabian, dark bay Turkoman, the Palomino standardbred, the chocolate Rowan dutch warm blood the DLC Andalusian, reversed dapple Nakota the black and white Hungarian half bred, and, of course, the mahogany bay Tennessee walker
Nice head shots. When i was hunting up north by the lake, I spotted the White Arabian. I didn't know about it, but inspected and saw the stats. I had to have it. I took it over my temp horse at camp, a Buttermilk. I found the Buttermilk too skittish and bucking me when attacked by wolves. Maybe something I was doing wrong, but wanted to see how the Arabian does anyway. I still have the shire and mahogany bay stabled and been using an all black thoroughbred as my goto.
I have both Dark bay turkoman and silver dapple pinto MFT they are very reliable on combat very brave and i agree with you about darkbay turkoman, that horse physique is beautiful
@holyhell650 I have silver dapple in the stable too that was my main horse in previous playthrough but after 2 years when I started playing again I was equipped with turkoman and before I had the chance to switch to fox trotter I realised I grew attached to turkoman and decided to go along with it.
My top 3 "cannon" horses for Arthur: 1. Chocolate Roan Dutch Warmblood (Buell comes too late in the game for Arthur, so this is the next best Warmblood, and you get it early in Ch. 2 Valentine stable) 2. Perlino Andalusian 3. Iron Grey Ardennes Honorable Mentions: 1. Dapple Grey Hungarian Half-Bred 2. Brindle Thoroughbred 3. Amber Champagne Missouri Fox Trotter (I know the Silver Dapple Pinto is more popular, but it's "too dapple" for me if that makes sense. Imo the amber champagne coat is better) 4. Any of the Mustangs (However I would've preferred them to be much bigger, my only gripe) If R* would just give us one last patch update to finally unlock the Liver Chestnut Hungarian Half-Bred across all consoles it would be my #1 horse as it would be for everyone as well too.
@@VinEllis I don't mind the Reverse Dapple Black Thoroughbred, I have it with my Ultimate Edition, and I've tried it out several times. But I just prefer the Brindle Thoroughbred, I like the coat better
I keep the Mahogany Bay Ten. Walker most of the time because I saw it was used in most of the marketing. And me being a freak, automatically assumed that was the horse Rockstar believed Arthur would keep.
I think the silver dapple pinto MFT and dark bay Turkoman (the one you can get from Horse Meat for dinner mission) fit the type of horse Arthur wants. When you are on the hunting mission with Hosea and you go to get a new horse from the stable, Arthur mentions he’s looking for a fast and strong horse. Both the silver dapple pinto MFT and Dark Bay Turkoman are very fast, and they are very strong since one is a work horse hybrid and the other is a War Horse hybrid.
I agree and I had the same thoughts when I played through the game, of the few horses I chose for Arthur and John (especially arthur) I made sure that each one was Rare and Unique. I managed to get a Female Silver Dapple Pinto in Chapter 2, from the mission you show here in the video, then I managed to keep her throughout the entire campaign until she got killed in one of the ending cut-scenes before going up the mountain to fight Micah (I chose to help John escape and luckily I had high honor so I got the best ending where Micah doesn't kill Arthur).....Definite tear-jerking scenes, Great Story.....Well done RockStar. Then, as soon as I started the Epilogue with John, the first thing I done was track down another Silver Dappple Pinto, which I was actually able to buy straight from the Stable in BlackWater, and it was Female again as well.....They're easily the best all-round horse imo, others come close but they're not quite as good as the Missouri Fox Trotters. I also found an Amber Champaign coloured Female Foxtrotter in the epilogue as well, looks cool but the Silver Dapple Pinto still has the crown for me.....With a Regular Mane and Tail colour number 17 (the last colour option available) I've also found a Male Silver Dapple Pinto, they're both good but I think I prefer the Female's temperament over-all plus the other bonus of having a Famale version is that I don't have to keep seeing his Meaty Clackers every now and then. LoL Sorry for the long post but your Horse matters in this game and for our character as well !! Anyway.....Enjoy People !!
so good to see some recent content on rdr2. Thank you. I just finished my first playthrough on rdr2 so I avoided as many hints and tips and such for this playthrough now Im looking at mistakes I made (TONS). like Buell, he dead now. Where does the mustang come in as a horse?
If he named his last horse Boadicea he probably likes war horses. How about the one he can take from the first bounty in Valentine or from the first debt collection?
i think dark bay turkoman is good choice one of the fastest 9spd most health 10 very good stamina and war and race horse best combination in my opinion dont get scared in gun fights and one of the best looking horse in the game he is fabelous nice coat and nice size not too big not too small just perfect
I'm gonna have to watch that vid of tracking the MFT after that mission. It will save me from shooting that poor lady over and over in my next playthrough 😂

I completed the whole of chapter 6 with the silver dapple pinto I found a lawman in saint denis riding somehow (while I was wanted), wonderful horse, I don't remember it bucking me off even once. So you can already imagine how heartbroken I was in the end.
Eh, nothing great about this list. The Saddler is an ok horse, it’s meant to be temporary. Arthur is suppose to have a love of Thorobreds. But for me, the White Arabian is meant to be special, it is a White Arabian on a Glacier it’s clearly meant to be special. The Fox trotter is a glitch, nice horse to get early but still. Then you have Cerberus, the Turkomon you steal. It’s the only horse named in that mission, you can keep any of the 3, it’s a unique coat, and after the Horse trader screws you it seems like the obvious move for Arthur to steal it back. Incredible horse. Then you have the Brindle Arabian near the Native American village, it definitely needs a rescue, is a very unique coat, and Arthur has strong ties to that village. So Cerberus, Buell, the White Arabian, the Brindle Arabian, are always my go too. The Fox trotter is generic, the Black Shire, is generic, just like the Black Arabians are. Also the Andalusian by the Waterfall is special horse. It’s not for me, but Rockstar put certain horses in special places for a reason.
I use the Raven black shire, but I edited the stats so they’re better (I dunno if that makes a difference) plus I got Whyem mod and put a skull mask on the horse plus a good saddle and it looks so freaking badass. I named my horse Cerberus (I know Cerberus is a 3 headed dog, but still, I loved the name)
I too felt somewhat attached to the black shire but I don't really like it, too big and clumsy. Arthur needs a fast and nimble horse to run away from the law. The DWB that you can knick from the prospector in the Dakota River is just as brave and looks and rides so much better. Plus Hosea tells you to sell it .. I agree with those nominating the chocolate roan DWB from the Valentine stable. I thinkthewhite Arabian is canon. When we started to play the game it was the first elite horse that we could get without too much trouble and many of us kept it till the end. All the game journos told us it was the best horse in the game. Of course many of us developed different preferences since then ... Otherwise think Arthur could pick any horse that he comes across and bond with it. A humble Tennessee Walker from the O'Dricolls? Sure! An ugly big brute from Hosea? Fine! I am sure Arthur could appreciate a wild Mustang or an Appaloosa or a Belgian cart horse just as much.
i did this exact thing with the pinto horse and it legit tossed me around bucking like a bull until it died, and it was like i was glitched to it I couldn't do anything no option to calm it couldn't eagle eye ETC. I was so disappointed. I even had the game off auto save and had it saved right before I went to mission and after she died it completed the mission and when i restarted it wasn't available anymore so mad lol where can I get after epilogue? have to do that glitch thing?
How about horses that aren’t in the beginning missions that we missed out on cause we passed that part in the game and need more horse ideas. I’m at the end of Chapter 2
Why no Chocolate Roan Dutch Warmblood? You can buy him early in the Hosea hunting mission, it's unique and nobody else in the gang rides a Dutch Warmblood. It suits Arthur perfectly.
@@RockworthRDR2 Yeah i've seen that video. But i don't like exploits and glitches. I prefer to do everything in the organic way, the way Rockstar intended it. So i just sold the gold bar from Limpany and bought it.

Random question. What hat does the NPC wear at 5:25 ??? Arthur would look damn good in it. I already have the rodeo hat, estate boss, and Stalker hat. Feels like none of em are perfect tho. Arthur's hat is awesome, but it doesn't fit when you wear "fancy" clothing. I like wearing the black and Red Frock coat with the Legion Vest. Currently rocking the red Estate Boss hat with it. It just doesn't feel 100% I wish
His cannon hat is the legendary alligator hat. As soon as chapter 2 starts go to the trapper, look at the outfit for the legendary alligator hat for like 15 seconds, back completely out of the trapper. Walk far enough to set up a camp, don't do anything just set it up. Then get up/leave camp. Equip the bandana, tear down the camp. Load your auto save tada your wearing the outfit. But how do we save just that hat? Don't worry feller, we pick a fight! Get the hat knocked off and pick it up after the fight. Tada the hat is officially unlocked as if crafted because we "found" it. It's also a gambler hat like his original hat it's just nicer, Arthur deserves his own hat not his dad's old hand me down.

Female horse, Gwenavere. Because king Arthur, Arthur and Gwenavere. Male horse Galahad since lancelot(fuck lancelot) slept with Arthur's wife while he was literally! on a mission from God to find the holy grail. (Literally a dick move) and Galahad is the young knight who found it AND returned excalibur to the lady of the lake instead of keeping it. Redemption being the name of the game Galahad seems like a better name if your gonna pick one of Arthur's knights
