James Rolfe has re-edited Kill Bill Volume 1 and 2 into one single movie. He explains how, why, and leaving in the nitty-gritty that made Tarantino's 4th and 5th films so great in the first place. In the films, a former assassin, known simply as The Bride (Uma Thurman), wakes from a coma four years after her jealous ex-lover Bill (David Carradine) attempts to murder her on her wedding day. Fueled by an insatiable desire for revenge, she vows to get even with every person who contributed to the loss of her unborn child, her entire wedding party, and four years of her life. After devising a hit list, The Bride sets off on her quest, enduring unspeakable injury and unscrupulous enemies.
CORRECTION: On one of the lines, I accidentally said "she gets pregnant with another guy", which I meant "she leaves Bill for another guy", but the baby's father is Bill.

It shows how Buck has more layers to him than people would believe. Like, you can see how he used to be an awesome assassin with insight and wisdom, but for whatever reason, he slipped up and became a deadbeat.

The only thing I would do is extend it to ~2.5 hours (no harm there in my opinion) so that we can keep more of the Blue Leaves fight and, most importantly, the Superman speech. I think that scene is too integral to Bill's character.

The only issue with this entire idea is that the strength of Bill in Vol 1 is that he is almost a myth, a boogeyman who is only shown as such. He isn’t even seen in full; there’s only a villainous shot of his body at the end. His reveal in the opening of Vol 2, which is almost sympathetic and comes in stark contrast to who he is portrayed as in Vol 1, is so incredibly powerful and changes the entire landscape of what we knew of Bill up until that point.

I would say it should be at the title card when shes shot and at the end when bill dies because it has meaning for both scenes, revenge kicked off the entire movie and revenge is what finishes it, its poetic

I actually always thought the contrast between Volume 1's craziness and Volume 2's calmness was something well intended. It shows how bloodthirsty the Bride started and how sympathetic she became. Bill is literally the only person she kills in Volume 2. Tarantino tricked us into going in for the action and staying for something even better.

The IFDB catalogs fanedits and is a great resource for finding the best. I really enjoyed BvS: No Justice and Maple Films condensed edit of The Hobbit trilogy (all three movies trimmed into one to follow exactly what the book covered).

I mostly agree with these edits, except the one with the music track "Battle Without Honor" playing right after the wedding massacre. It removes the tragic aspect from the scene, which lessens the whole value of Beatrix's revenge. The massacre needs to feel tragic. If it feels fun or energetic, which that music track does to the scene, we wouldn't feel for the character and then not care as much about her revenge. That music track should only be used when she's actually on her way to do the revenge.

You're all wrong. Bang Bang makes sense in the context of the original movies, however this cut is aimed at getting to the point. This choice lets you know that the tone is 'badass revenge movie' which this song/theme is perfectly suited to. Gedoutahere!!!!

Personally, I would’ve added the audio from the beginning of part one in combination of the nightmare at Pai Mei’s and wake her flailing at the gunfire SFX, but eh, whatever. I really like the approach and think I would love this version of the film. But I do think there's a golden middle way, because this feels like it's all plot and no human which is what I love about the marathon. I also think the story is served really well non-linearly, not for the sake of style but because the over arching story that tarantino tells is not necesarily a linear one (in the literal time sense) but a linear story in the sense of exploring the character

There is a way. He simply uploads it. Harmy uploaded his Despecialized fan edit of the original Star Wars Trilogy, and he never got in any trouble, same with Adywan's fan edit. They even talk openly about it on RU-vid and their websites. So it must not be illegal then. I don't know what James is afraid of.

I don't think I can cut anything in Kiki's Delivery Service, or in WALL-E ( maybe I could use alternative scenes and add a little more, but that would go beyond just redeting the film ) with Fantastia I'd remove "Rite of Spring" and insert closing credits for the crew. @@Penguin2923 Lost World is severly underrated! It's still my 2nd favorite JP movie, and Roland is my favorite character after Ian Malcolm, and Robert Muldoon! I love that deleted scene with him in the bar, and it defintely should have been in the movie!

@@Dartanyoogles I agree through and through! And that one scene where Ludlow explains to the InGen investors why Hammond is not fit for them. Both of those scenes have some beautiful directing and cinematography and the frustrating fact is that they basically fix the plot holes problems the film has. That film is just a few edits away from being a masterpiece.

Fantastic video James! Please do more of these! The only thing I’ll say is I think you could of easily made your edit closer to 2 and a half hours and that way you get to sprinkle in some of the stuff you chopped down. The “Superman speech” being one of them.

I feel very similarly about the length and pacing of the original. This sounds like a great edit. A lot of movies feel like they're one draft away from great, or maybe just a re-edit. So it'd be great to see your takes on other movies this way.

There's gotta be some sort of specialized instructions that would allow someone to create the specific edit. That way you just upload the instruction and someone anonymous would just circulate it for torrenting. Or james is probably doing this so he can say that "someone" made it and uploaded it.

You could even release an EDL file which could be used in most video editors... it's basically a text file with timestamps of all the edits... then it's just a matter of importing the movie and soundtrack files BAM... there might be some manual work to calibrate the timing offset and do certain crossfades and such, but this EDL file technique shouldn't violate any laws and it would be easy to share being it's like a few megabytes at most

This is one of James masterpiece videos. It shows 2 things: 1. Just how much knowledge he has of cinema fundamentals and pacing. 2. Just how amazing a film director Tarantino truly is. Yes, the 2 movies could have been spliced into 1 film. But we are thankful we got 2 movies out of it all the same. James...we want to see your version. Why tease such a treasure?

She was a Jane Doe and the only surviving witness to a massacre, the police would have been alerted when she escaped, Bill is the kind of guy who easily has the connections to have someone alert him the moment she woke up, suppose that in this edit he meant to be there while she after she awoke and was recuperating, but she escaped, and knowing her well enough that he knew what it meant.

@@ArcadianGenesis I think it was a typo and he meant "Bai". The pinyin(phonetics for Mandarin) is [bái], reads close to "bye"(with no tones). The "i" is certainly there, but not THAT stressed(in Cantonese it's even less and goes somewhat like "baa/bah"). "Pai Mei" is an anglicized pronunciation(don't know the term, but you get what I mean), and I believe it was deliberately chosen and used for the film. In standard Mandarin it reads pretty close to "Bye-May". Also it means "White Brow(s)". Couldn't help with the lengthy explanation-just in case you'd like to know.

I did a fan edit of Teen Wolf (1985) where I cut out a lot of Boof and then had Scott get together with Pamela at the end. I did this by splitting up the bowling scene. We get only the latter part of it in its original place. After Scott wins the game, as he passes Pamela, it freeze-frames, which makes it look like they're gonna hug. It then fades to the beginning of the bowling scene (meant to be a second date here) and then freeze-frames on Scott and Pamela's kiss, Roll credits.
