I had the exact same problem w/my second firing.. never reached cone 6, more like a barely cone 5 in bottom and higher 5.5 probably. Love seeing the refired work. Excellent.
I would count that a success! I love love love the butter keeper and the bowl. I would be glad to purchase both! Your videos are so helpful to us who are new to pottery. Praying all is well with your family.
Hi! Thanks for your encouragement! Yes things have gotten a little crazy again for me plus my editing software crashed and I lost a lot of work 🤬🤬🤬 made me pretty upset and I had to step away. I still have the raw footage but now have to figure out what went wrong so it doesn’t happen again. Try, fail, learn…try again..that’s my mantra. Bare with me! 😂
Hello South Africa!! So good to hear from you. Kiln openings are filled with anticipation, I usually sleep very lightly on the nights I run my kiln..and wake early like a child on Christmas morning! 😂 thanks for watching Donna! Cheers 🤗
Luv your colors and luv your personality. Luv watching how things turn out and your use of color !!! Makes me wanna give it a go. !! I’m a painter. I sell double pickets at craft shows. And my prints. I use bright colors. Lookin forward to your next video !!!
Thank you Allen, I’m glad to be back! Good luck with the refire, it’s always a bit of a gamble putting things back in for another go…I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you 🤞🤞😉
Thanks Lisa! You’re right! I was torn about raising the spoon rest because of the glazes I chose, knowing that they were runners. That’s why I put it on 3 shelf supports hoping that would spread out any movement, but clearly that was a mistake! I should’ve placed it flat..oh well live and learn! Thanks for your suggestion! I appreciate it! 🙏
Hi Sarah. So glad the refire solved your issues. I also like the edited review at the end. I have some dark clay as well so was especially happy to gee your goblet result, I love it too. I have been using single dip on mine but think I will try layering. Great videos.
Wow! You have a wonderful batch now. Don't you love getting up each hour and/or the middle of the night to check the kiln! Goes with the territory. Goodness, if we counted the hours... Most people have no idea what we do to make it work! Ahhh but we love how it turns out don't we. Congrats!
Thank you for your awesome videos... I love your personality and how excited you get when you open your kiln!!! Your glaze combinations are spot on and I have used them on my own pieces.... can you please tell me the exact number of the plainsman clay that you use... it is almost burgundy in color.. so beautiful... thank you Susan.... carol from las vegas!!!
Hi Val, Thank you so much!! Actually, I’ve been working on some new content so I’ll have a new video out soon! I’ve never been to England but I hope to one day make the trip, so much history I find fascinating! Nice to meet you!🤗
Oh they look so much better now 😍 i need to try your butterkeeper combo, it is so pretty. And i love the drips too, hope to see more :) maybe you could show us some more great combinations. Regards from Germany♡
Thanks to you and your videos I purchased the black clay but mistakenly placed the luxurious Jade over the dark green so I was a little disappointed in the result. Do you have any other glaze combinations appropriate for black clay?
Hi Rohrshack! Yes glazes give off very different results depending on which one goes on first! Sometimes good, sometimes…a learning moment 🤭 I like Oatmeal over Texture Turquoise, and sunset pink under archies base. Blue glazes alway look beautiful on the black clay too!
I've been using my abalone shell, most ppl smudge in, but I would love to see you make one the colors of abalone, I would definitely want!!!❤️ Drip catcher!🏆
Thanks Sallie! I could try!?! It sounds beautiful! If it works out I’ll definitely share with you all. I haven’t been filming lately just trying to get my inventory up for a my shop opening 🤪🤞and getting ready for Xmas. But I will definitely think about how I can make that glaze combo! Thanks for your suggestion! 🥰
I’m new to this and I bought a used Aim Hightemp Kiln. It fires to cone 10. My first firing will be this weekend. Any tips would be appreciated. I’m scared 😬
Ohhh that’s so exciting! When I first got my kiln it sat in the garage bcuz I was kinda scared too! I suggest maybe for your first firing do a bisque fire which will greatly increase your confidence as you’ll see how long it takes, the smells it puts out etc..and yes there are different smells as the kiln does it’s thing.. alsoc research as much as possible you make and model on line see if you can find a manual so you can read what the manufacturer recommends. I would also set up witnesses cones for each shelf so you can see what temperature they hit. It’s very valuable info. Good luck! 😉
All I did was put the pots right back in the kiln with no additional glazes added. Because the kiln had under-fired the glazes didn’t get the right amount of heat work in order to create the effect expected. When the kiln gets up to temperature the glazes actually liquify / molten..but the first firing didn’t get hot enough so the glazes didn’t mix properly. Hope that makes sense. Not every circumstance can be fixed by re-firing..pretty much my entire 2nd shelf in this kiln load was wrecked..but no love loss as I had nothing to loose..all those pieces were sorta ruined anyways, they will all get smashed later today..🤭
Hi Shellie, I don’t think there would be a problem re-firing in a gas or wood kiln, 🤔😬but I don’t say that with confidence. I don’t see why it would pose a problem any more than in an electric kiln. I don’t suggest re-firing more than once to ^5 or ^6 as your piece will start to become brittle but putting it thru the kiln 2x is fine. You can actually even add more glaze to a piece and refire it too if you didn’t put enough on or didn’t get the desired results. I’ll have to do a video on that.. maybe soon. I’ve been working on some more content😉
Hi Debi, in this case I did not add more glaze, I just put them back in the kiln so that the pieces would get the right heat work. It’s amazing how different results you get with diff temps! Thanks for watching! 🥰
Hi Tonie, Happy New Year!! Actually I am editing a video as I type this. I don't mean to sound like im making excuses, It's been challenging since I've gone back to my full time job, commuting, and juggling filming, editing etc. With fingers crossed I think I've come up with a plan to be more consistent with my uploads and social media period. I apologize i went quiet again during the holidays but I've filmed quite a bit of content so I just need to sort thru and piece it all together! Thank you for checking in on me!
So sorry this took so long to get back to you!! I have a 1961 Evenheat 4320 LT 240 volt, 24 amps manual, kiln sitter kiln…psst, I got it for free about 4-5 years ago…it works like a charm and It fires up to cone 8 but I’ve only had it up to just under cone 7..😉😊
