@@davidherasme5780 well I was thinking it won’t work because they not the greatest friends right now but it would probably be different if the suns did draft Luka
This was a good draft class. 2nd rd guys like Jarred Vanderbilt and Mitchell Robinson, Bruce Brown, Gary Trent are all solid starter caliber/6th man guys. Not to mention undrafted like Gabe Vincent and Duncan Robinson
I don't think so it's a B+ only guy better than him is Luka he helped the Suns reach the finals and got disrespect not given any room to play his game.
@@FilipCordasshai is better than ayton, Trae is better than ayton, Jackson Jr is better than ayton, bridges is better than ayton… want me to stop? There are about another 6 players similar in level to ayton.
@@FilipCordas dude... I can’t argue this if you don’t watch them. I see everyone I just mentioned play pretty often, and it’s CLEARLY a different level.
Mavs fan here. I was sitting there on draft night trying to convince myself that Mo Bamba would work out nicely. I watched Luka win in Europe and absolutely loved his game and attitude. I still can't believe he's in Dallas.
2018 Redraft (Lottery only!) #1- Luka Doncic #2- Shai Gilgeous Alexander #3- Trae Young #4- Jalen Brunson #5- Jaren Jackson Jr #6- Mikal Bridges #7- Anfernee Simons #8- Michael Porter Jr #9- Mitchell Robinson #10- Robert Williams lll #11- DeAndre Ayton #12- Collin Sexton #13- Miles Bridges #14- Bruce Bowen Honorable Mentions: Wendell Carter Jr, Donte DiVincenzo, Jared Vanderbilt
I think mo is at least a D or C- he’s been nice the last 2-3 seasons as a back up, he’s still a good rim protector and 3pt shooter, he shot 38 percent from 3 the last 2 seasons
After the draft, I instantly knew that in order for the Suns to not look stupid, Ayton would have to be the Olajuwon to Luka’s Jordan (obviously Ayton and Luka is nowhere near Dream and MJ, but shoutout to anyone who understood the reference).
The wild thing is that if you asked me around the 21 finals, I would have made this case for Ayton. He was arguably the most consistent player on that run and have no clue where that guy has been since.
Something forgotten about the Suns picking Ayton: Sarver is a *huge* booster of Arizona. I bet my bottom dollar that if Ayton went to any other school they would not have picked him
This was a solid-gold, top-shelf draft. You didn't even mention other dependable NBA players like Jarred Vanderbilt, Gary Trent Jr., Mitchell Robinson, Bruce Brown, or Devonte Graham. This draft was deep!
Trading down, passing on Luka and drafting Trae Young at number 5 because ownership wasn't sure about Doncic is a D grade at best, definetely not A+. The Hawks got an additional first out of it, which they used to draft Cam Reddish. Bad stuff by Atlanta. Trae is an All-Star calibre player but it's still pretty egregious to trade away Doncic.
@@emilfrederiksen.1622 A+ = best grade possible. How is he not on Luka's level, yet still an A+? There's nothing amazing about scoring 30 a game when the guy you're guarding scored 35.
6:15 not only was Kevin Knox a miss, they passed up on SGA and Mikal Bridges. Later they traded him to the blazers for Cam Reddish and a 1st round pick. Then 2 drafts later they drafted Obi Toppin 8th, passing up on Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, and Desmond Bane. This offseason they gave him up for 2 second rounders. Obviously they're not fortune tellers but the people in the Knicks front office are idiots
@@thenativedjiboutian no. At the 2022 trade deadline the Knicks traded Knox and a 1st to Atlanta for Cam Reddish. The next trade deadline they traded Reddish, two bums, and a 1st for Josh Hart
MPJ is an A++ for nuggets for taking a flier at pick 14, giving him rest and now he’s a contributing to a championship team as a starter and one of the best shooters in the league and improving defensively year after year. Shot blocking and rebounding is impressive from him.
He was a top talent, but that back of his really put a scare into teams. Denver was loaded with wings at the time and didn’t need him to step in right away. He was the product of great drafting the preceding 2-3 years.
The Sexton rating should be higher, if you're re-grading the draft. The Cavs got a couple of very good seasons from him then used him to get Donovan Mitchell. So, from the point of view of him as draft pick, he worked out very well. The lack of production is Utah is relevant to the trade, not the draft.
Ayton reminds me a lot of Andrew Wiggins. Just a really good starter (maybe sneaks into the All-Star team if his team is good enough), he's not good enough to say it was the right pick, but he's not bad enough to say he's a bust.
Really good starter? He's a bum. Plays on one of the worst teams in the league and can't crack double digits. I believe he's currently averaging 0.3 foul shots a game.
@@respectedlocalgentleman7108 He's averaging 12 & 12 right now, which is good. He's one of the better starting Center's in the NBA. And for his career, he averages 17 & 10
I take umbrage with Jalen Brunson. Not because he's not a terrific player but because he's clearly 47 years old and cannot have been in this draft class.
I did not see it with JJJ. But as I look back, it was the way Izzo used him (incorrectly used him) at Michigan St. I was extremely high on SGA. Loved his size and the pace he played with in college. Never seemed to get sped up. Didn't know if he'd be this good though.
The Suns picking Ayton #1 was the best most logical choice at the time , best basketball choice, best marketing choice, best financial choice. Phoenix needed a center , Ayton is an Arizona kid and immediately sell tickets and he was the most dominant big in college.
Never ever ever ever ever ever ever draft fit over talent. Figure out the fit later. There are 10 other dbooks in this league, and doncic is already better and more impactful
@@jadynhasstupid2275 he's not even better than Jaylen Brown.... Booker was routinely on teams that won like 20 games.... then they got a stacked team and still only won like 45 games, had a fluke finals run and he was atrocious in big games and is one of the worst defenders in the league. Stop it.
@@ou8428Brown plays better D but that's about it. DBOOK has handles something brown for exposed for not having. What is this stacked Phoenix team Booker was on? Bridges, ayton and can Johnson built through the draft with an aged cp3 isn't stacked...... Crowder lol
I would say this is “Regrading the Picks” and not the “Draft” bc I think that would include trading picks and The Hawks wouldn’t get an A+ in that situation
@@user-gz4mq6xb2f Do you actually believe that Trae is as good as Luka, or do you just hate Luka, because he's a slow, chubby white boy that shits on 99% of the NBA?
Not sure if Trae is an A+, I just don't think he just has it in him to lead a team to contention, and his skillset just doesn't work as even a complimentary piece, or even as a 1B option.
Sexton should be a B- imo. He’s had a couple real good seasons and is still a solid piece. Considering some who went before and directly after, it’s a solid pick. Only Mikal & SGA were def better guys above him picked later.
I'm a Duke fan, and I never understood Bagley at #2. So many of the things that have held him back in the NBA were obvious at Duke. His defense was probably the worst I've ever seen from a Duke freshman. It was so bad that Duke permanently went to zone to hide his bad instincts and terrible effort. He was a great offensive player, but he's a tweener. He can't play center defensively, and he can ONLY play center offensively (due to his lack of a jumpshot). He also has zero passing ability. I expected him to do better in the NBA than this, but what was his best case? Poor man's A'mare Stoudemire? In this era, that's not a tenable player. And it's certainly not one you draft #2.
Denver was positioned to take Porter because they had drafted so well previously and developed players that allowed them to sit Porter for the entire year. This allowed MPJ to get healthy and develop without pressure.
Any Phoenix suns fan would tell you we knew Mikal’s potential like 3 years ago. We knew what he’d become after Phoenix. He’ll always be a Suns legend in my eyes personally, he was my favorite player on the team
kevin knox 100% an F minus bro. All the mock drafts had us taking mikal bridges. like the knicks got lucky one time with the porzingis pick and kept going lower at the drafts and picking project players and Kevin knox is the one that hurts the most for me. The Knicks really need spacing and a good sf rn and oh my fucking god, bridges would've been perfect. such a godawful pick
Am I the only one who thinks Jackson Jr should be a higher grade than Trae? Idk I disagree with Trae being an A+. I think it's pretty wild to call someone the worst defensive player in the league and then give them an A+ and say it isn't close.
Phoenix not picking Doncic is one thing, but Sacramento? WTF! That is one of the worst draft decisions in decades. We have to go back to Hasheem Thabeet and Darko Milcic to find someone in the same category.
As much as I want Ayton off my team now, I will admit that he was very impactful in that finals run but I believe Luka and Book would have brought us a championship in between all this time.
I m a basketball player myself. Not that great actually but fair enough. Is it stupid to model game like Lukas? But without the complaining, the ballhog and the "decent" defender?
So of all the drafts I've scouted this one was by far the one I was most accurate in predicting. There were still some errors I made obviously....I didn't expect Luka to be who he is today, I expected SGA to be an average serviceable player but nothing like he's become..but what I did best was suggesting the Suns should take Karen Jackson over Ayton because I thought Jackson had a lot more upside, after him I thought Mikal Bridges was the next best pick in the draft although I understand not taking him in the top 5 because he was a couple years older than most other guys and he didn't have as much developing and growing to do he was pretty NBA ready come draft night, lastly I couldn't believe the run on this draft's batch of point guards didn't come sooner...in the second round guys like Jalen Brunson, Devante Graham, Jevon Carter, etc. were still available. Also not for nothing I think this was also the draft where Mitchell Robinson didn't go until the second round just because he sat out a year which is crazy to me. But I remember thinking after the draft ended that I could make a pretty good team with a starting five of Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, Michael Porter, Miles Bridges, and Jaren Jackson with some backups like Jevon Carter, Anfernee Simons, Divencinzo, Robert Williams, and Mitchell Robinson. Obviously looking back at it today I'd make some changes but my god this draft was loaded..and how good was that Villanova team that helped make this draft so good? I didn't even mention Omari Spellman and they also had Mikal Bridges, Jalen Brunson, and Divencinzo...how did they ever lose? Lol
It's weird saying for example:"You could've had Shay instead of Mo Bamba", because there is no guarantee that an organization will shape up a player they had drafted in a good manner. Organization is as important as a player's talent and work ethic. Look at the NFL-Trevor Lawrence looked like a bust in his rookie year because his head coach was Urban Meyer, but as soon as Pederson came he bounced back.
Saying miles bridges wasn't playing at an all-star level before the off court stuff is ludicrous he was averaging 20+ a game and was top 10 in all star voting for his position that year also was in most improved player talks and he looks good this year as well he's definitely all star caliber
It was a combination of Mo’s lack of assertiveness to develop his game overall. Plus having a coach like Steve Clifford not too trusting to playing Mo enough for him to develop his game was also a factor to Mo’s departure from the Magic.
Bamba is still young and has a great chance to be a good backup big in the NBA. Not saying he should be graded much higher but I agree he's never gotten much run and can stick around the league as big shot blocker that can shoot are few and far between
Gotta grade it off how they do on the team not who comes after them. Trae and booker sounds like a lot of offense and no defense or big man so the pick for fir was there
Wendell carter a B and Deandre Ayton a C-????? I get Ayton was drafted ahead of Luka, but that's just criminal.... He literally was a key piece of a finals run in his 3rd year in the league. Meanwhile Wendell has never played in a single playoff game and had to be attached to two firsts just to get Nikola Vucevic lol
Clippers and Hornets traded picks. The SGA pick was originally Charlotte's, and Jerome pick was originally Clippers'. Teams always trade random picks, like Washington and Indiana did this year even though they were 7th and 8th pick (respectively) in the draft
nah Kevin Knox is an F-, the following 3 picks directly after him all turned into 20 PPG scorers and 1 of them is an MVP candidate, so the 9th pick having less impact logic doesn't hold up in this particular draft class.

I'm actually surprised that Trae young isnt that bad. Dallas still won the trade but I thought it was highway robbery at the time.... Now it's just petty theft
Starvin' Marvin Trashley = F-.. I said it in the comment section of your vid titled "A Marvin Bagley Trade might be coming to the Sacramento Kings" in great detail a little over 2 years ago.. He's nothing special in this league, and never will be.. Absolutely Abominable pick at 2nd overall, especially in that particular Draft.
realistically there was no way phoenix wouldn’t pick ayton. a team that was on the cusp of improvement with i believe alex len as the starting center getting a player falling into their lap projected to go first overall FROM UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA like no amount of convincing from the coach on luka would change his mind
also this was still peak euro bias era where there was pretty much no way in hell a european player would get picked first due to the fact that euro stars tend to fail due to being forced into a role player’s role
Mikal is not A+. its an A at best, its not an all-star, really good to be the third guy in an contender. Trae is not an A+ just because they trade Luka, its an A. To me just 3 guys here are A+, Luka, Shai and Brunson.
Ayton Draft is a good pick. He is one of the reasons why Suns so good. It should be at least a B+. Bagley was actually really good before nba. Injuries did him dirty
"One of the reasons why Suns so good" But they've been blown out of the first round by 30 points or more in the elimination game for 2 consecutive playoffs 🥴
