I almost completely agree, although "oh daddy " I personally don't think needs a reaction video 🤷♀️😊but I do think Christine McVie doesn't get enough attention.
Love when someone said, Taylor Swift writes songs whining about ex-boyfriends, Stevie Nick writes a song about ex-boyfriend, and then makes him play the guitar and sing with her......bad ass.
@@TheReelgrrl, not really. Most of their individually written songs on the Rumors album are about each other. Both have written other songs about the other since then. And if anything, I'd say Stevie's "Silver Springs" is the ultimate song directed to a former lover/partner. But not "Landslide" as that she wrote for her dad prior to joining FM.
@@TheReelgrrl, yeah, that was his nastiness throwing shade at her when she broke up with him. Don't get me wrong, despite his negativity, Lindsey is one of my top ten faves on the guitar especialy on "Gypsy" but she had him pegged when they first started a relationship together with her "Long Distance Winner" song about him. "Love somebody Save their soul Tie them to your heaven Erase their hell Save their lifestyle - if you feel it Don't try to change them You never will"
Their album 'Rumours' was so good that they won the Grammy Award for best album in 1977, beating the Eagles' masterpiece 'Hotel California'... Talk about serious competition between musical gems!
@George Duffy you're speaking my language . I've been trying to get Jamel to play cowgirl in the sand, down by the river, on the beach, hurricane, ramada inn .. the really great guitar songs with multiple long solo bridges. i love Neil's commercial stuff too especially rocking in the free world and too many to mention. but I want Jamel to really see what Niel can do with a guitar. he's gonna have a revelation . a new favorite . Young has been as inspirational to music, musicians as the Beatles imo. I saw Young at The Greek Theater for Greendale, actors lip synced and acted out the characters on different revolving stages per song as Young and Crazy Horse played in a lower stage in very low light, played the whole album, then we took an intermission and they came out and played their previous stuff for over 2 hours. It's a small theater with great acoustics so it was quaint. One of the best shows I've ever seen. Young is charismatic live, and he improvs extended guitar bridges that are epic.
And rightly so. Each of them wrote parts of it and, through all the emotional turmoil at the time [McVie's divorcing, as was Fleetwood & his wife + Buckingham and Nicks breaking up], the one thing holding them together... was the band. Fleetwood Mac IS the Chain.
@@chevysslady100 wife and I saw FM a year ago in Boston. I was disappointed that Lindsey was no longer a part of the band. So much of what the group was centered around his and Stevie’s relationship. Still the greatest live band, IMO just missing that little extra watching the interplay of those two. Still, one of the highlights of my life. Never, ever thought I would be so lucky as to see them!
@@johncollins7423 True. And that Stevie Nicks wrote it as she and the whole band were going through all of the tumult that they did - from splintered relationships to pervasive and deadly drug addictions. And that she continues to perform it as this amazing cautionary tale is pretty bad ass. And those chilling ghostly wails she does at the end.
@@johncollins7423 Magnificently summed up! I am sure you have seen the live version she and Mick did with the late Bob Welch at The Roxy. The video makes me sit riveted in awe as she sings "woman, woman, woman"! It's dated 1983 and her eyes are glittering and you see the sexual tension between she and Mick! Bob Welch was SUPERB in this live, longer version. Amazing stuff in music history!
Lying I bed watching this with headphones. Wife’s wondering why I’m tapping my feet and shaking the bed. Once I said “it’s ‘The Chain’, it MAKES you tap your feet, I didn’t even realize that I was doing it” she just smiled and kind of chuckled. Glad she loves me for being me!
Thank you for honoring Christine.. She was a beautiful and talented woman . A true legend. Fleetwood Mac all members were musical genius. The Rumors album was released in the late 70's That Album stayed at number 1 for almost a year and was one of the best selling albums of all time. The world lost an angelic legend but Heaven is singing tonight.
Second Hand News by Fleetwood Mac. I've requested this song on a bunch of reaction sites and no one will check it out. I promise you that it's a great song to react to.
I grew up with that Tusk video and one of Rhiannon. They used to be played between tv shows if the timing was off and the station needed a filler before the advertised program start time.
The production was so clear and rich, with so much space in the mix. Love the sound of 70’s albums like Breakfast in America, DSOTM, and Rumors. Golden age of recording production for rock, IMO.
Stevie Nicks' story is such an incredible one. She really put her whole life story out there in her music and poetry. She dated Mick and also Don Henley. Check out the Fleetwood Mac song called Sara, it was written for Mick's wife post-affair
She dated and broke up with Lindsay buckingham while they were both in Fleetwood Mac. She dated Joe Walsh, Tom Petty and Jerry Iovine. Band mate of Don and she and Tim shared Jerry as a producer. Very dramatic life.
This song is F A T. My favorite of theirs. Impeccable. It's funny you know, the lyrics are " chain, keep us together..." But whenever I hear it I hear "chained, to close together..." Which is probably more appropriate given the bands history.
This album will always be me driving on a highway in Victoria, Australia, with a man who never loved me then, and never loved me again. Doesn’t detract from it at all, it just added meaning.
Lindsey is a guitar genius. And he does it without a pick! Do yourself a favor and watch "The Dance" I was lucky enough to see it live ! Love your reaction, as usual ❤
Saw them in 1998 at the Palace Auburn hills. They were sober not fighting and they were flipping awsome. Mick Fleetwood put on a 20+ minute drum solo, just killer. Saw Stevie Nicks on her solo tour couple years before that. Great show! She is truly the fairy princess.
What is fun about watching the old reactions is seeing the evolution of your music room. One day, do an update so we can see what all you have in the room now.
I absolutely love this song and am always shocked how it is ignored. It only appears on one album, at least last I looked. Not on greatest hits or nothin. Hey, half of Fleetwood Mac's songs are about band entanglements. I think it's very adult of them to turn it into relatable songs.
@@knowlesy3915 It’s not on the Greatest Hits album, but it’s the first song on The Dance album. (ETA, it’s not on the album titled Greatest Hits from 1988, but is on the 2002 Very Best of Fleetwood Mac compilation.)
The late 70’s produced so many incredible albums by incredible bands... I was so fortunate to be a part of this era in music... all these years later these albums still fill my heart and soul every time I listen to them.
Honestly, one of the most perfect rock songs ever written. A great rock song is all about building emotion, and then releasing it into a furious crescendo, and this is one of the best. I'm not saying that's the only way , but for me, that build up, then the silence / tension, followed by that release, mmm , man, that's what I like.
I've been privileged to see them twice in concert.....both were epic!!!! I will NEVER get enough of them!!! The whole group was a gift from the Rock Gods of Music!!!💜🤟🎼🎶🎵
My FAVORITE rock band ever. I've seen them only 1 time. I saw my idol, Stevie Nicks, 4 years ago in Chicago for my birthday. She was amazing. I could've died that night and that would've been fine with me! Love, love, love her!
The lyric "If you don't love me now, you will never love me again" Stevie meant for another song but Lindsay wouldn't stop wanting it for this song so Stevie added it to it. This who album is freaking fantastic Fleetwood Mac is legendary for a reason. Stevie and Christine are phenomenal. Hell they all are phenomenal 💯💯💯
Great duet written by Stevie for Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter, though I don’t think they ended up recording it. But it was perfect for Stevie and Don Henley anyway. Also,”Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” with Tom Petty, as well as “I Will Run to You” and “Insider”. Anything Stevie and Petty sang together was special.
Gold dust woman was my first ever time listening to Fleetwood mac and I immediately put on the whole album and when The chain came up i knew this album would be in my top 5 favorite albums of all time.
This was one of my first song loves, born in '69 - mom picks up the original textured sleeve vinyl in '77 - the Chain has lived in my heart ever since. (Mom and I were just discussing this album tonight. She's ready to dump her old vinyls at goodwill, I told her hold up ma, that album alone is a treasure...she looked it up and went Oh!)
Just discovered your site last week! Love your enthusiasm and taste in music! I’m a 65 year old hippie who came of age listening to this music! Please keep up the good work bruh!😎
I saw them, in 1976, I was 17, wow where has all the time gone! I walked up to the stage and snapped a picture of Stevie Nicks, she smiled at me! I had the picture blown up, and kept it for awhile! I wish I still had it?
I love experiencing my favorite tunes thru reactions, and yours are something else. They really connect us to that joy, so keep following your inspiration!
Always love seeing someone else fall in love with Fleetwood Mac!! Truly an awesome band that never put out a single bad song!! & seeing them live is a completely different experience!!
As you're now aware, rock music of the 70s was a big tent. Lots of styles , lots of overlap and plenty of ground breaking songs. Thank you for keeping this era of great music alive.
The instrumental section from about 4.10 has been used many times as theme music for sports shows on TV. For many years it was the opening music for the BBC broadcasts of F1 motor racing.
What a GREAT review of this song, Jamel! I was at their sold out concert at The Cow Palace in SF in '78. It was amazing. Fleetwood Mac has stood the test of time, there aren't any bad track on that album.
Bruh I still am trying to get my head around the fact that you have never seen all of this. The color gap musta been a lot larger than I've ever imagined ..
Thank you for playing this, this song is my favorite from this album. I love you're reaction to it, especially when it paused and then when the base came in.
When I first heard this song when I was in grade school, every time I heard this song I thought this was where Barney Miller got their theme song from.
I was 11 when "Rumors" came out and was played all over the radio in the Summer of 1977. "Rumors" is great from start to finish. What I can remember the most about "The Chain" was riding in the back seat of my brothers '72 Pinto on the way to the Jersey Shore with the waft of freedom and weed in the air. I thought I was so grown up riding with him and his new wife and jamming out. God, please when I die can I relive those happy times again. The bass line is reminiscent of the "Barney Miller" theme song. The band I worked for in the 80s the bassist taught me how to play the bass solo in this song.
This is the first album released by Fleetwood Mac after Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined the band and them joining the band was a twist of fate and of being at the right place (Sound City Studio) at the right time. 🤘✌️
The Chain was featured in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and it brings me so much joy. Hearing that in the movie theater playing over the film's climax...my soul was singing.
Towards the end of the song, about the last third of it there's a long pause then you hear the guitar strumming that part was often used as an intro to Formula 1 Motor racing programmes on British TV.
@@markdevlin8471 we are holding you in our prayers man. Summer will be here shortly. We can all get outside again. And I totally expect you to be out there too!
