Agreed. Stevie is amazing, so much so that unfortunately she overshadows the vocals from the rest of the band.... they are all spectacular harmonizers! its like alice in chains, how Layne gets all the shine but Jerry doesnt get the praise he deserves for holding down the harmonies.
Lindsey Buckingham was in a “60 Minutes” interview with Ed Bradley. He isolated the vocal track on the lead out. That was Lindsey wailing and screaming at the end. By the time of this recording his relationship with Stevie was all but over. Lindsey admitted that his agonized screams of torment were real.
I've always thought that, so it's nice to see it validated. Poor Lindsey, he always sounded tortured to me in this song because of the howling, and I guess he was. 😢
@@tanyamckinnon5376 Watch the making of Rumours DVD. LindsEy isolates the wailing vocals, makes a comment about "duress"! It's a Stevie vocal! BTW, how can you tell it's LindsEy when you can't even spell his name correctly!? Yet, even more misinformation from the Fleetwood-come-lately fans! Listen and learn from your elders my dear! Peace!
The first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Nicks, who became the first woman inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
You know she writes her songs. She's singing about her own addiction. And of course, her relationship with Lindsey. Who was no help at all. She writes the songs and gets her ex to sing them with her! That's how to get over an addiction! Maybe the erieyness it just very raw honesty.
@@redletter2008 Crying emoji. I have empathy for people suffering through drug addiction, having fought my food addiction for the past forty years. Still working on it.
@@redletter2008 ... It has been said that Stevie's brother Chris called Lindsey for help and he was good enough to oblige. Thanks to Mick she got hooked on coke.
I've always been impressed at their use of the the primal, "less is more" moments in their songs. A simple drumbeat, but beating right with your heart. But then they can bring ALL the sound like in TUSK and Don't Stop.
They're really not afraid to let the songs breathe. It's also like they're actually playing the soundtrack to their lives. You can imagine this playing in the background of their own fly on the wall documentary of their cocaine binged mayhem
I had the pleasure of meeting Mick Fleetwood, the guy on the cover of the Rumours album, about 15, 20 years ago. I'm a court reporter in Maine, and he was one of the plaintiffs in a civil lawsuit regarding a music publishing house here in the original Portland here in Maine. It was the deposition of one of the execs of the publishing house, went from 9:00a.m. to 8:30 at night. Coming back from lunch he and I were the only two people in the room and we had a wonderful conversation. He was very engaging, and laughed quite a bit when I kept saying, say that again and really slow because of his accent. I told him I was 16 when Rumours came out, I lied to my parents, and a bunch of us went to their concert. I had such a huge contact high from that concert in Boulder, Colorado. I do wanted to ask him about all the shenanigans that went on surrounding Rumours, but I refrained. 😜
SO SO HAPPY The younger gernerations have discovered OUR MUSIC. I'M A BABY BOOMER BORN IN 56. I WAS in my early 20 when Fleetwood Mac Hit it BIG and came out with Rumors. I Lived Beatles Motown Disco Punk Rock n Roll. LONG LIVE DRUGS SEX AN ROCK AN ROLL!
This is my favorite. She was scrutinized for being a waitress and told that's what she would always be and never would make it as a singer. Stevie showed them and to this day keeps showing them her amazing talent.
This Fleetwood song is just a magical blend of Stevie's amazing, strong vocals threading through with Lindsay's. You also have Lindsay's guitar picking that takes this song to a mystical place, along with his and Mic's swirling vocals at the end of the song. Perfection.
Such an atmospheric song. That's why you got the chills. Stevie really sings with unbridled emotion. Awesome lyricist, too. One of the best Fleetwood Mac tunes.✌
In an interview for VH1's Classic Album series, Nicks offered further insight into the song's meaning: "Gold Dust Woman" was my kind of symbolic look at somebody going through a bad relationship, doing a lot of drugs, and trying to make it. Trying to live.
I remember just starring at this album cover as a kid, it was one of many albums in my parents collection. Love Stevie & Fleetwood Mac. Such an distinctive voice, you know who it is immediately 🎙🎶
This album is super interesting. It seems like they were all fighting internally and having troubles with their romantic relationships within the band. All of the songs in the album have little jabs that they hit each other with. It all culminates in the song "The Chain". Its a masterful album.
Stevie's sultry voice is one of the greatest of all time. I've always been a fan and was lucky enough to see Fleetwood Mac and Nick's in her solo years. She and they didn't disappoint.
The studio version is good, practically ALL of the live versions are unreal good, still today, it's one of Stevie's true masterpieces and she can still do those wails, plus it's usually quite a bit extended in the live versions.
There's the magic I was talk'in about, this is a fine example of "less is more". There was no one competing against each other and the sound was amazing. Every single note complimented the one before it. This is just perfect in my eyes.
Jamel/Jamal, I love listening along with you. I try to re-experience these songs for the first time; it just isn't possible to put a Genie back in the bottle! There was so much great rock music made in the 1960s and 1970s. Although, Jazz was at its prime, too in the 1960s!!
Inducted Twice, as a solo artist and with Fleetwood Mac. Never too much Stevie...😁 "take your silver spoon and dig your grave". Late 70s YIKES. "Black widow".......?
I remember when Rumors came out. My friends and I all thought Stevie was 🔥. Then I heard her voice and was, like, wow! She's got such a distinct voice.
I think she's the first woman to be inducted both as a part of a band and as a solo artist (So twice). I think Aretha Franklin was the first women inducted, but not 100% sure.
STEVIE NICKS LEATHER AND LACE LIVE 1981. Watch when she gets to the line "I have my own life and I am stronger than you know." She almost breaks down and cries. And this is when she looked the most beautiful ever. Stevie is the Queen of broken hearts.
"That booger sugar" 😆. Yes sir 🎯. Stevie has self disclosed many times about her past struggles with nose candy and how it negatively impacted her life. The lyrics say it all.
The first female to be inducted twice, as a member of a fleet Wood Mac and as a solo artist, but not the first female inducted. Amazing voice and the harmonies added so much to the overall vibe of the song.
You gotta give the other two vocalists in FM a listen: Go Your Own Way, You Make Lovin' Fun, Tusk, Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow. Also further back with Peter Green "Oh, Well" and "Black Magic Woman".
Such a great tune; the whole album is phenomenal. Rumours came out in 1977, when I was 9, and my parents and friends' parents, or older siblings owned it. By the time we became teens, this album was still hot, and we were listening to it on our own. Music from back in the day does that... it carries over and keeps going. My son is 24; he heard this CD as a little kid, because of me playing it, and he still listens to it today... as well as almost all classic rock music. What an era it was. Legendary. Timeless. Unique. It will never be replicated.
The only movie I can think of with this song was The Crow: City of Angels which had a cover by Courtney Love's band Hole. It was an okay cover for what it was but it's Stevie's voice with those dang drums that make the song so eerie. I agree, Jamel, the song is definitely one of the most haunting songs I ever heard. It gave me nightmares growing up.
Great review brother. FYI, Fleetwood Mac “Rumors” is one of those all time great albums, in that all the songs are great from beginning to end. This song is eerie and soul wrenching.
My memories of this album are from when I was a young kid (about 5 years old). My parents would put this record (vinyl LP), dim the lights, and there was always a funny smell in the air...
LOVE Stevie's voice!!! And she ROCKS AND SHE'S BEAUTIFUL!! I'm not sure where to put requests for other artists so I'll just put it here?! It's a heavy metal band called MOTLEY CRUE who I believe ( I did a search) you haven't reacted to yet. SONGS: PRIMAL SCREAM LOOKS THAT KILL SHOUT AT THE DEVIL Thank you! Keep on keeping on!✌❤🎶😁
I saw you did this and had to quickly check it out. This is my favorite song from them. You are right she did say this song was about coke and what was going on behind the scenes.
Stevie made so appearances on American Horror Story Coven . one of my favorite seasons. When i was a teenagers and early 20's i wanted to have her style. I love Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks. I heard the Jumanji sound or whatever too lol
